The original premise of the OP was a tenuous, stretch at best. How the hell has this thread got over 200 posts!

This thread is bordering on defamatory.

Perhaps because our newly appointed minister for children posts selfies with a man who makes it his business to attempt to normalise sex in children, citing children as young as 9 years. I think that's enough to warrant concern and the majority of the posts validate those concerns. Hell, Sinn Fein are criticised for marching at Bobby Storeys funeral but O Gormans poor judgement and poor associations isnt deemed worthy of a critique?

It's like that time Young Fine Gael said something similar and there was outcry all round. Oh wait, there wasn't......

Don't see much similarity there, Tatchell is of the opinion a 9 year old can make a conscious decision to have sex with an adult and would enjoy it.

O Gormans twitter is very quiet, Connors was looking for a reply from him but got none.

If he didn't know about Tatchells past opinions he should come out and distance himself from him.

If o Gorman just leaves this at “no comment”, it’s obviously going to raise further questions. The whole thing is problematic.

Something worth pointing out is Tatchell has said he is against paedophilia i.e. pre-pubecent children, but not sex with minors who have reached puberty. His actual stance is if there's grass on the field play ball.

    Outrageous if true.

The bar for defamation is way way to low in this country.

If you're explaining you're losing. Better to leave this gather no oxygen. I'd find it hard to imagine any newspaper or Station picking this up, it's a pretty tenuous connection.

My mind boggles at the mindset of the hard right and left who think Twitter is the real world.

This. The fact that Gemma O'D broke the story gives him license to ignore it.

If he was a ff or fg member the loudest minority would be on here screaming for his resignation.

He is a member of the greens so instead an excuse will be looked for instead.

    For shame guys

    WOKE pass

Not just the hard right and left. Inconsequential nonsense on Twitter is often reported on within parts of the media, usually online sources, as if it represents some kind of popular consensus; usually more for light hearted stuff, "British people react to seeing Hurley on Sky!", but also things like celebrity spats and "roasts" of certain politicians.

In this case the tenous connection and particularly the provenance of the story are what are preventing the media picking it up. For instance I know the Irish Times has a policy at trust level of "not giving publicity", ie not reporting unless absolutely necessary, on Ben Gilroy and I expect that extends to the his fellow travelers like Gemma.

the biggest favour gemma did roderick is being the one who broke the story. if it had been any half way reputable source he might, MIGHT, have had to make a statement but since it was gemma, that's an end of it.

thats the sad reality, a stopped clock is right twice a day and all that. But yes, because she broke it , its automatically brushed under the carpet as a homophobic attack. The green propaganda machine in full swing to have it dismissed.

Indeed, it's more consequential than this nonsense, which did get some airplay in the papers

Anyway, not to worry. I suspect he'll step on a few more cowpats in the months ahead.

The greens now are a different party to the greens of the last time when they were in government. Stalwarts like Sargent (who I voted for before) and Patrica McKenna are gone .They were mostly people who were quirky but decent regular people.

The Greens (now) are a party obsessed with woke politics of the left and have evolved into a party of weirdos.
I'm sure Aodhán ó Ríordáin must be looking across the aisle in envy and awe in equal measure.

Whatever you do don't go to After Hours because you'll come across the depraved silo of paedophilia that is the Interesting Maps thread.

"The Green propaganda machine"; are you lads for real? The only thing about this entire topic that even comes close to propaganda are the originating tweets/articles/whatever.

a nice glib comment with hi-5s from the usual suspects.
but tell us what you think? Should he comment on his associations with peter tatchell?
If he holds similar views, he is appropriate as minister for children?

Thats the crux of this thread , anything else is deflection.

You had people in this thread claiming interest in cartography really shows he's a paedophile. :pac::pac::pac:

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Don't forget the Goya painting clearly he wants to devour children.

    Quick thought experiment

Here’s the hypothetitical situation - New FF minister for children enthusiastically tweets photos and tributes to some dodgy catholic priest with odd views on age of consent.

    What would be the reaction?

Specifically, what would be the reaction of liberals?

What do you expect when you have people implying map porn is a code.

And my answer to your questions is yes, and no. Also I doubt he has similar views.

I didn't know what MAPs were until the other day, now that I do it would raise an eyebrow considering the other smoke surrounding him. There's a point where you need to start asking yourself is there something unusual here.
I'd assume he knows what MAPs stands for or are we just following blindly with the assumption he's just a bit nieave.
He wouldn't even get an interview let alone a mangers job if there was any sort of due diligence carried out for this position.
I do think he meant something completely different when he posted map porn but it's still not the same thing your thinking.

A prominent gay member of the Green party was pictured next to another prominent gay member of the Green party at a Pride Parade in 2018.

I don't believe either of them should have to comment on any opinion or belief held by the other in that kind of situation; they were there in the context of their common political party supporting a movement which is presumably very important for both of them (gay pride).

Now if they were pictured together at an annual meeting of some paedophile support group I could see why people might have legitimate concerns.

Are you honestly saying that with a straight face. If he was into kids why would be sending codes to people? It doesn't even make sense.

As he posts a photo of a map? I'd seen the term a handful of times but I wouldn't make that association with an actual map... You yourself didn't even know of the term until now... As pointed out by many at this stage, the link with Tatchell in general is extraordinarily tenuous, particularly since Tatchell is noteworthy for far more than that.

Guessing you'll find lots of politicians with Norris at pride too. And while his letter disgusts me which in itself is far more significant than what Tatchell did. Norris held a huge responsibility for the decriminalisation of homosexuality so I wouldn't assume anyone who admires him respects his more off the wall views.

I doubt he has similar views.
Can I say, I doubt that too because my brief introduction to this new Minister suggests he's clueless.

Never ascribe to conspiracy what can equally be explained by incompetence.

But he should be asked. I mean, Tatchell's explanations of his original article are, ahem, interesting. He didn't know, apparently, that the essay he was writing was going to end up in a book advocating That Sort Of Thing, and was being compiled by open supporters of That Sort Of Thing.

Pete never seemed to ask himself if he needed to reflect on why advocates of That Sort Of Thing might think the argument he was making supported their cause.
