This is all youve got to say? 10 people have lost their job, and all youve got to say is "What industry do ye support"? "What Im seeing is that multinationals are..."

    Wow.

I know ginge, when you don’t have an argument or a point , attack the poster. All job losses are not going to be caused by what has happened within Ireland. In fact the majority of the medium to long term impacts, and even short term impacts will be caused by the global situation. Medtech sector, which directly and indirectly employs more than the tourism sector, has largely frozen investment even though sales are still strong. This is having a major knock on effect to small contracting firms but is not caused by what is happening within Ireland in any way. Acknowledging that makes it impossible to shout NPHET nazis though

While I do see your point to an extent about going along with things, I'm more with the other poster and don't think he was petty. Being hounded to sanitise your hands in every shop is not a pleasant experience. In my local Dunnes one assistant quite aggressively reminds everyone to keep back. People might go along with this for a while but they'll very soon get sick of it. People might want to support local businesses but not if the experience feels like a military operation.

If you feel a particular local shop is being over aggressive go elsewhere. I have found most places have been unobtrusive with controls they have implemented

Regarding sanitising at every shop. I can see where the poster is coming from, yes the salesperson didn't know how many times they'd washed their hands but in retail pleasantries and manners go a long way. I entered a chemist and encountered a similar response, I genuinely didn't see the sanitiser stand and was preoccupied with where I was supposed to be going. To be met with a harsh barking order isn't great customer service.
I just laughed it off but it struck as someone who was petrified of the virus so didn't loose any sleep over it.

If you don't like a shop approach, go somewhere else. Shops need to learn pretty quickly that customer service is very important.

Some of it is just poor training. Will give credit to the supermarkets during this, their staff have been very good on the customer service.

My local Supervalu, they just didn't seem to care. Even at the height of it, they would still happily take my mobile phone to get the code for the vouchers/points etc and enter it. No gloves etc.

No issue as long as they sanitised afterwards.

Big shout out to Dunnes in the Ilac (new one) and Aldi Parnell who have been excellent through this period. Staff polite and it did feel safe throughout.

What was actually said was people should consider spending their vacation money at home, which may in fact save some jobs.

So the architects of the economic destruction that have cost us hundreds of thousands of jobs are now going to patronisingly lecture us about holidaying at home?

    They can fcuk right off.

To be fair to him, he uses a limited range of language intentionally as the media cannot be relied on to deliver an accurate picture. The basic message is that they are concerned about an uptick in travel and would hope people would stay at home. A lot of people will to respond that but you can still do it if you want.

People aren't getting the point about the orders to sanitise hands. Telling posters to just go elsewhere just proves that.

I don't have a problem with sanitising my hands, I don't have a problem with keeping my distance. I do have a problem with being ordered to do those things.Maybe that is an unfortunate necessity in the large supermarkets which are essential services and not a leisure activity for the customer. But I wouldn't really appreciate that in other shops and even less in places like restaurants, hotels when they open. It's back to personal responsibility which is largely where we're at now. People have to be trusted and many customers, if they don't feel trusted or appreciated, won't return and that's bad for the economy.

My overall experience in supermarkets has been positive. I've found staff very courteous and customers very compliant. Some places are more lax than others so that's where I'd always have my own sanitiser and wipes in the car and I would gauge where they're necessary. That's what I mean about personal responsibility. Unfortunately some retail staff get carried away and go all military and it certainly is unpleasant.

What a kick in the teeth to workers who may have lost their jobs.

The nastiness in people is starting to show through.

    For shame.

Adverse reactions to this have been there for quite a while. Some people have taken this on the chin, others slightly less well.

This is a really good synopsis of the experience of retail. After a week or 2 of getting out a bit more I too feel like I might just stay at home and go online. It's a miserable, sanitised and cold experience in many shops I've been to.

What a nonsensical attitude. You seem to think we would have been fine without any restrictions. We wouldn't. The economic and social cost of overwhelmed hospitals would have been greater.

Anyway much of the economic fallout comes from measures in other countries which we can't influence.

    What a nonsensical comment.

Do other countries have 28%, 26% unemployment currently? Will other countries have 15%+ unemployment till end of 2021? (thats 18 months from now)

Other countries have been opened for 4 - 6 weeks + now, Spanish beaches are packed, Greek beaches are packed, Italy welcomes tourists to Rome, Pisa, Florence..... France will welcome people from OUTSIDE OF EU 1 JULY ONWARDS, thats bloody Wednesday.

and Ireland? we are being asked to do a staycation and spend 400-500 euros per night in some shabby BnB on west coast of Ireland to help save jobs......

Ah here, the hospital's wouldn't of been overwhelmed because we dont have as many citizen's over 65 as Italy had or anywhere else that had issues with overwhelmed ICU departments .

I cant believe some are still clinging to this ridiculous argument which compares Ireland to a region in northern Italy which had a population of 10m in an area the size of Munster, and thus had major issues treating patients.

The approach we took will see countless lives lost to other illnesses but apparently only a Covid death is worth tears

I wasnt attacking you, I was pointing out complete lack of solidarity you show to a poster and his company of 14 who are letting go 10 of their staff, casual 70% workforce being cut, with your "yeah, you guys were gonna lose your job anyways because of worldwide recession". This reeks of "oh that business had high rent, it was going out of business anyways nonsense that you posted in the past.

And that in bold - really? No wonder you are all happy seal clapping, "Things are bad abroad, so small engineering firms in Ireland will suffer anyway. It has nothing to do with NPHET and Tony and Co telling us to go into lockdown to flatten the curve, only to keep us in lockdown for 6-8 weeks after the curve has been flattened, destroying our economy and SMEs in the process, engineering industry or otherwise."

Good for you. Looking at weather outside today - I hope you ll get lucky for those 3 nights and won't spend them sitting in the hotel.

For 420 euros you could get 4 star hotel around Barcelona's coast for 8 nights.

Are you still clinging to the idea this is just another flu? I have a friend (under 70, no health issues0 who has just about come through Covid after a long battle but will be at least six months getting back to normal. This fine fit man now needs a walking frame. Just flu!

Would you care to tell us which hotel or provide a link so we can check prices ourselves?

I'm just curious because I know that prices in my local region here in Kerry are rip off high. Not that I've any intention of staycationing. Not a hope would I staycation in this kind of weather. But I often do hotel breaks off season when weather is often much better so I'm genuinely as to where you got this deal?

Wow. Could you please predict Euromillions numbers for next draw please? seeing how you and your friend are predicting health issues for next 6 months for him following an illness that he never had before in the past.

Spanish and Greek beaches are packed?

I work with a lad from Palma, his family are in tourism.. they expect to see about 15% of the volumes of previous years this year!

    Are they really packed?
