Think a lot of the Irish people are struggling with the personal responsibility which will be the cornerstone from here on in.
For example here we have a local GAA player looking for issues- as someone rightly points out- don’t play if you feel uncomfortable or at risk -
    https://twitter.com/conormcgraynor/status/1274988928429363200?s=21

I would say the same about flying, shopping, drinking, sports- none of these things are compulsory. If yuh feel at risk then don’t partake. The days of Simon Harris et al telling you what is safe or not are numbered

Portugal has reimposed some restrictions in the Lisbon region. Gatherings are being limited to 10 people, shops and cafes must close at 8pm.

Specific targeted measures introduced to deal with local issues. Sounds very sensible to me

Interesting to note less and less coverage seems to be given over to the endless streams of “expert” virologist etc like Dr Killeen in the past few weeks. Apart from Luke oneill this morn with pat Kenny (He was always a contributor anyhow) I’m hearing less abs less of them. The media are fickle and if the message us getting tiresome and perceived as old hat they’ll cut you off and focus on the next big story. They’ve had a long 5 minutes of fame, but appears to be less and less of an audience for it now

There's less to actually talk about right now. For what its worth today I heard O'Neill (who as you say is a long term regular) and Sam McConkey on RTE radio so they've not all gone away you know! If/when things go south later in the year you'll hear more of what you don't like.

Agree I think this is how its going to have to be tackled in Ireland too until a vaccine or something is found.

If there is a cluster lock down the town or area until contact tracing can be complete.

Nonsense. GPs have a duty to look after their clients in their time of need and not treat them like lepers.

The GPs are following their duty of care by ensuring extreme social distancing so that already ill people don't also contract Covid.

Was talking to somebody at the weekend and were discussing how many people they knew “enjoy lockdown” for a whole host of reasons. It appears many did. They’re having problems now letting go so the default is to hit harder on the fear button. They’d have no issue with doing it again

I have been meeting with a lot of people in my area since the lockdown ended and I haven't one one yet who "enjoyed lockdown" everyone was delighted to see things getting back to near normal and if fear is such a big factor why isn't everyone wearing a mask. less than 6% are wearing masks in my survey of over 2000 people

Would you just cop on now for one minute and just stop and have a think about what you've just written.

You're basically saying I must abide by whatever is the "new normal" at my GP, I absolutely must obey the rules of else f.off and die! Sorry mate, that's what you're saying and you think that is somehow a smart thing to say even if it's what you think and god love you if that's the way you think.

The GP isn't the pub. The GP isn't the hairdresser. The GP isn't the church. The GP is often a matter of life of death. Thankfully I am relatively young and healthy and in this case it wasn't a matter of life and death. But if it was or if I was elderly or vulnerable you'd still say you have to sit on that wall in the rain because they're the rules. And If you don't like it f.off and die!!

I thought you were just a poster I very much disagreed with. But now I'm wondering if you're a troll or just post to deliberately wind people up. Because you really cannot be serious with that comment!

Surely can’t be true. I read here every day that we are the only county in Europe with any restrictions?

Give me an example and I stand to be corrected

Here you go. Play with the data until your heart’s content, though I’m not spoon feeding it to you.

    https://www.statista.com/statistics/1104709/coronavirus-deaths-worldwide-per-million-inhabitants/

Some notable results however (deaths per million):

Yes Sweden are higher than us but not dramatically so whilst we’ve created an economic sh1tstorm that will kill more and ruin the lives of countless others. Sweden won’t be dealing with much of that, at least not to our extent. Brazil are lower than us. Characterised by the media as the poster boy for ignoring lockdown, our house arrest system still didn’t propel us higher than them. Try to find Belarus. They are so far down, you’ll have to search hard but they were famous for continuing their soccer season and having military celebration parades. But I guess as a former eastern bloc country, we are to be wary of their figures, no? Closer to home, the proof is in the pudding. These protests have resulted in no increase whatsoever. In fact they have coincided with a decrease in deaths. If I were to use the logic of the general masses, a simple correlation could be made suggesting mass street protests are an effective treatment for Covid 19. We all know that is blox but we readily accept the reverse with no evidence.

You’re looking for logic in this and you won’t find it. Guarantee some of the biggest lockdown supporters were first in line for Penney’s and mcdonalds last week too.
Reams of people liked the extra time with kids, lack of responsibility, no commute. Had to blame them

    4 new cases today.

Lets keep them pubs closed for an extra month, for good measure. Dont mention our flattened curve since 1st week of May.

Anyone have today’s bronchitis figures? Strep throat?

I take it you didn't work in IT back around that time, because there was an enormous investment going back several years leading up to 2000 to prevent all that from happening, and which was successful.

To be fair the point he was trying to make - and I'm staying impartial here myself - that, yes, certainly there was significant investment, but most of it was half-con and bullsh1t. I was in IT back then and I can confirm. It was a joke show. Certain environments needed investment but it was all 'oh my god' and people spent a lot of money who didnt really have to.

Again just saying he is speaking the truth in that department. Not saying I agree that CoVID is the same.

The protests were after restrictions had already worked.
Sweden are at a multiple of our current case load with no sign of reduction. They also don’t count those on the equivalent of the COVID payment as unemployed so the economic impact is large their too. And while the likes of the U A E will now let citizens travel to Ireland, Sweden is restricted. As for Belarus, well I don’t know enough about the country, but they did expel Russia journalists for reporting on what was going on in the country while had almost identical case numbers for weeks

I wouldnt get too bothered about it. Like everything else in the lockdown deck of cards this nonsensical rule will collapse in on itself soon enough. It’s broadly fine now in the middle of summer, but come a wet November day all this waiting outside stuff won’t last very long.

How do you know they had worked? Seriously, give me the mechanism of how “restrictions worked” and prove it too. And did you not see the ‘per million’ stipulation. What the fck use is case load without knowing what proportion of the population it comprises of? By that metric we are a world leaders. Jesus Christ, I am in a health and safety nightmare where even the simplest factual figures play second fiddle to feelings and hunches.

5 players have tested positive from Red Star Belgrade, Montenegro which was covid free now has new cases believed to be from attending football in Belgrade.

And also in the Balkans Djokovic's genius business as usual tennis tournament has resulted in two players catching covid and it being cancelled before its conclusion.

But I'm sure thats a roaring success for the only flu open up NOW crowd, same way Sweden is still such a success.

Oh Johnson, that sounds really awful. What’ll they ever do having to quarantine themselves for 2 weeks? Pray they pull through this difficult time.

Well the facts are, “P”, that those affected may get some symptoms, some won’t. Each will disappear for two weeks and return good and well thereafter. Each Covid free while the world continues and the tumbleweed blows gently by their houses.

How many others have each of them infected, and of those, how many have they affected?

Them going into isolation for two weeks won’t help all the others.

We're the only country in the EU with a full BAN on a number of services - i.e. restaurants, bars, churches...

Most countries in the EU (possibly all countries apart from Sweden?) still have plenty of restrictions in place, such as limiting the number of people allowed indoors and the wearing of masks.
Restrictions are the new normal, and won't go away anytime soon.

Well that’s true beauty of this Covid 19 you see! You infect your friends and then they isolate for two weeks, and then their friends and their friends and their friends’ friends. They all isolate for 2 weeks and then return to work/play just like that! See how that works?! Cool isn’t it!

That's quite the leap to take that from what I posted. Follow the rules, or don't go. Those were your choices. I fail to see how standing in the rain is going to kill someone...but that is what you seem to be saying. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Anyway, what did you do about it today? Did you complain to the receptionist? Did you complain to the doctor? Did you go and see the doctor, following the rules...and then come on here to complain?
