Unfortunately for me, I’ve spent pretty much the last two weeks banned because I share your opinions (which are the wrong opinions here - come get me for a third time mod, idgaf).

Ha! I very much doubt you were banned for having an opinion. Are you trying to be some kind of martyr for the cause? People shared opinions on both sides of the argument lots of times on this thread without getting banned.

Martyr? You’re coming on very strong there. True, plenty haven’t been banned, but plenty have too. It’s obvious, if you have a strong and forthright opinion that happens to point in the WRONG direction, you will receive a ban at one time or another. There is definitely a study in that! I’ll leave it up to you to calculate what the wrong opinion is on this thread/forum.

    0 deaths, 6 cases.

Still can't get your haircut, though, ya hairy bollox.

Yeah, plenty have, on BOTH sides of the argument. Which means your opinion on this one doesn't stack up. There's no 'wrong' opinion. It's how you try to put it across that appears to be the problem.

Incredible the level of restrictions that are in place at the moment considering we had 6 cases and 0 deaths today.

    Reopening is way too slow.

The level of restrictions is why the cases are so low. How is this so difficult for you to understand?

I was one of the people giving out not so long ago that we were moving way too slowly. But given that everything except high risk activities like pubs and mass gatherings seem to be given the go-ahead for next week, I'm not sure how you could argue that that's still the case.

Yes, sensible people are wearing masks. You protect me and I protect you. its basic common sense in crowded places.

I am a sensible person and could see a covering was necessary when the pandemic was raging. I wore one and goggles. I did not need advice from some medic and his cohorts when it was obvious that they would help in a respiratory epidemic. Now that i know more and understand the risk is tiny at the moment i find it infuriating that Tony and the nphets can do such an about face and suddenly shame people in to wearing them.

What changes on 20th of July? Pubs risk profile comes down?

It is. We have had miniscule number of new cases per day for the last 4 weeks. Country of 4,900,000 population like.

Yet some businesses will stay closed till 20th july, 1 more month from now? Bizarre

Can hairdressers, pubs and restaurants be considered high risk when other European countries have had them open for over a month now and no sign of the dreaded second wave? There is no evidence to support our prolonged lockdown.

Most retail has been open for just under 2 weeks now, we’ve also had people in and out of coffee shops/cafes for takeaway, protests with thousands of people in attendance and people are socialising in groups in their homes, gardens and public parks for easily over a month now, yet we still only had 6 cases today.

It really seems like social distancing and not lockdown/ closure of businesses is what’s needed to manage the virus.
We’ve had no dreaded spike or surge in cases from retail being reopening, protests happening or people socialising in groups. Cases are still going down by the day.

It beggars belief as to why we can only go to the pub for 90 minutes at a time with a €9 substantial meal come next week.
    That’s absolutely crazy.
I wouldn’t be in favour of a free for all, but sitting in a bar with a glass of wine without being obliged to order food and leaving after an hour and a half would be nice and I don’t see why that can’t be done from the 29th onwards.

Welcome back Jayesdiem. Your interesting posts will have been missed by many an open minded poster.

And I've been banned. For expressing opinions that don't suit a pro lockdown narrative and for robustly defending those opinions which got me caught up in heated arguments.

I fully share your fears and the fears of many others, not of Covid 19, but of another recession and share your anger that foolhardy Govt actions may have exacerbated the decline. I fervently hope not as a return to the type of austerity we experienced less than a decade ago would be as bad and a lot more wide reaching than any pandemic.

So pubs association had to lobby govt to ensure pubs reopen after 4 full months of lockdown?

Jesus, 4 full months of lockdown. On 20th of July, it will be over 2 months since we flattened the curve. Let that sink in.

Again, you weren't banned for expressing an opinion or defending those opinions. It was how you defended them and the heated arguments rather than the stance you took that was your downfall. Own it.

Yes i was the same served two censorship bans for calling for a more sensible approach to the lockdown. Thankfully our voices saw reason.

There is alot more important things we should focus on before pubs. Pubs are not important and only add to the risk of spreading the virus

What are those more important things? Cleaning empty hospitals? Changing bed sheets in those 100+ empty ICU beds?

Borrowing more money? We ll have quarter of a trillion debt within 12 months, country of less than 5 million people. Shure, lets keep pubs closed for 1 more month. That will totally control covid. Get them new cases to 1-2 as opposed to 6-8 per day. *rollseyes*

Yes, there are more important things things then pubs. But for a lot of people Pubs are they're main social outlet. And many people are looking forward to their reopening.

There is no reason why pubs cant open safely

Hospitals arent empty, was in one yesterday where no cases for 23 days.
More important things are the schools, the cancer treatments, sports for kids.

There is one big reason, we have a problem with alcohol and will lose the runs of ourselves. Just look at any time when pubs close for the night

So opening pubs before 20th July will prevent us from getting those cancer treatments going? Oh the pro lockdown logic never fails to amaze me.

Most people do not have a problem with alcohol. Pubs can and will be reopened with guidelines in place.

    :D this is brilliant.

You do realize people can get access to identical alcohol in restaurants right? I feel like you are a business owner whos competing with pubs, an offlicence owner perhaps?

But private business owners don’t run these things...so bit of a red herring to compare them. They’re state or semi state run or funded

That’s a load of rubbish. People like you have been terrified by the media into believing this nonsense. Not surprising when they keep giving air time to Gerry Killeen and his ilk. But you probably won’t die if you venture outside and live a little.

The curve was flattened over a month ago now. We could have lifted every restriction back then and we’d be in the same position now.

We’re the only country in Europe that still has restrictions like this. Why? Is the virus worse in Ireland than everywhere else?

A poster wanted nightclubs closed until a vaccine is found. Other posters want Xmas cancelled. It’s incredible stuff.

Our own CMO says we won’t need lockdown again. It was a panic work around until we got prepared.

We need to end this nonsense soon while there is still an economy to salvage. The Covid payment is due to end at the end of August. Banks will eventually require people to pay their loans and mortgages again.

This will hopefully help to refocus the minds.

Best post here since May. 100% agreed. Yes September will be a very sobering month
