It's not a full home draft setup but if you're in Cork 9 White Deer brewery have partnered up with iKegger and are doing fills of their kegs. The iKegger kits have 10 and 5 litre kegs so you don't have to get full size kegs.

There's a bit on their site about it
    https://www.9whitedeer.ie/shop/

Here's a video of the stout one -
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CpaqSO4ifzE

I'd be really tempted if I lived down there.

Irish company selling that at an decent enough price. Takes up a lot less space and I've seen those taps pouring Guinness over here, they sell the upgrade but €90 seems expensive

Cant imagine this is 10k worth of kit.

I was looking for an easy way to clean the lines, I see hand pump type things are used in America quite a bit but don't see them here, all I see are the crazy expensive pressurized containers. I have a compressor if there was any type of attachment I could use for it?

Also I have a retailer that has kegs in stock but have been out of date since mid April, these are Guinness keg's, would they be ok?

    Aye it'll be fine.

With regards to line cleaning, can you detach the lines easy enough on both ends?

Yeah indeed I can, the line is very short for the system I want to make. In fact I was just going to replace the beer lines with new ones anyways. The main part I want to clean is the inside of the cooler itself.

I ran some air through it yesterday to see if there was anything still inside it and some 20 year old Guinness came out and it was one of the most horrendous smells I have ever came across! It was as that point that I decided I needed to give a proper deep clean to the pipes inside the cooler itself.

I priced a cleaning bottle for 95 euro and detergent for 40 euro, is there any cheaper options available?

I almost have everything set up now, including a way to clean things. Could anyone tell me the correct psi for stout gas? I know it can be adjusted easily but just wondered if it was different for stout gas rather than larger gas.

    its about 35-38PSI afaik,

there is a science to it depending on the temp, length of the beer line and the height difference from the keg to tap, but its confusing, so I set mine to 36PSI and its fine

Got a loan of a 2 line cooler system last weekend, 2 taps going; Guinness and Coors Light. Smashing stuff!

50L kegs, and lovely and chilled after going through the cooler. Guinness was BBE April, tasted the finest. None in date to be got.

The Guinness suremix gas is like golddust to source (BOC have stopped selling it) and majority of the Guinness kegs floating are snapped up or shipped back to St. James Gate. Lucky we knew a good few publicans around the town who were glad to help out.

The price of systems / coolers online for sale at the present is insane. And then factor in the cost of the kegs.

A few lads wouldn't be long going through a few kegs of the black stuff.

Will be tapping into the 3rd keg of Guinness now later tonight.

If you can source the stuff, go for it lads.

    Pure mothers milk!

Anyone have any ideas where to get gas mix. I've all got now bar the gas and it's proving difficult to get as said above.

I actually have an empty 10l cylinder that was sitting at my brothers house when he bought it but can't find anywhere to get it refilled.

I see few of these home bar kits are appearing up on donedeal last few days. Quite pricey but might invest in one that already has all the gear set up. Looking for a 2 tap for Guinness and coors.

There's likely to be an element of panic selling from both vendors and people who bought them who thought the pubs were closed til mid August or later, and in the case of those who bought them, are unable to find in-date kegs anywhere.

Wait a few months until people find that it's expensive, wasteful and not the same experience as being in a pub at all. There will be lots of kits for sale, I think.

You'll probably pick up a pizza oven cheap enough, too, after a couple of months.

I know my local value centre was not getting new keg's in untill the 29th of this month as the Guinness brewery closed. Might be worth looking into craft brewery stuff maybe?

Hi, whats the pints of Guinness like from your kegerator? Is your gas in the fridge aswell?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,244 ✭✭✭Boscoirl

The pints from mine are as good as the pub now. A big improvement since the keg is in the fridge. If I do say so myself.

The gas isn’t in the fridge for my set up. Not enough room. I have fed the gas line out the back of the fridge through the hole for the drip tray.

I built mine myself. I bought a 2nd hand fridge from adverts for 50€, mounted the tap on the door.

I attached a pic on the previous page

Very good, I'm gonna buy a fridge myself, I have a keg here at the moment, I'm setting it up for next weekend, I got a lend of taps and cooler and gas off a friend of mine, but everytime I was in his drinking Guinness there was always a problem with the pints, if you wanted a cold pint there would be feck all of a head, if you wanted a nice head you have to turn off the cooler and have it warm, really annoying, that's why I'd like to make my own kegerator, think I'd drill through the top of the fridge for mine, is there a reason you drilled through the door?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,244 ✭✭✭Boscoirl

My tap didn’t have a mount, so it saved me buying one. Its also a larder fridge as an under counter fridge would be too small for the keg because normally the workings of the fridge take up space at the bottom of the fridge. I had to build a shelf to level it so the keg fitted. It’s tall.

Also if you drill the wrong part of a fridge you can ruin it. And I know there is nothing in the door.

Finally got everything set up this evening.
Was waiting on the new batch of Guinness but got a call today saying a keg was available.
A few teething problems setting up for the uninitiated but all worked out mighty.

PS thanks Boscoirl for all the info.

Fresh Guinness kegs back in stock this week, picking up a fresh one this Friday evening. And the tap's are returning after 2 weeks away, it was a hard 2 weeks. Will be tapping an OOD keg first, it won't last 24 hours.

Got it last night in the end and had a last minute panic, the gas was empty when we went to pull a pint! So did an SOS run at 10.30pm last night to pick one up. Had to celebrate Liverpool winning the league sure.

Waiting for 5pm to come now and clock out of work and pull a pint of cream. Pints as nice as ever, cooler will be rightly kicked in now tonight.

How many people are attacking this keg?

Any advice about a good head?!!

Having an ongoing battle with the head on my Guinness. Pints are lovely but just can't get any consistency on the head. Most are on the small side.

    Any advice?

What kind of regulator you using? Right gas, 70/30 I take it?

    A few solid drinkers.

Got a dodgy keg since, pure water, keg wouldn't give a head no mater what. Pissed off over it!

Yea using 70/30 gas. And regulator attached.
For a short line what should PSI be?

I had mine set around 35 psi and heads came out perfect. On a short line too.

Tweak around with PSI but from 30 to 35 should give a decent head.

I've a Boc suremix regulator so it's set into the green "full" line all the time.
