Sure with that logic, restaurants should just close. Restaurants are not open. Takeaways Are.

Tons of restaurants have switched to providing takeaway options to keep some revenue coming in and some staff in work until they can reopen. Everyone who can should be supporting those businesses

    Well well, not looking good

Eamon Ryan: 'A broad range of new taxes' to fund post-Covid recovery

    https://www.irishexaminer.com/breakingnews/ireland/eamon-ryan-a-broad-range-of-new-taxes-to-fund-post-covid-recovery-1003904.html

Do you know who ultimately pays taxes? yeah.

    The contrast is striking

"France won’t raise taxes even with the economy suffering a deeper recession than previously expected because of the coronavirus lockdown, finance minister Bruno Le Maire has said.

The contraction this year will amount to 11 per cent, more than the 8 per cent previously predicted. That’s also more than the 9 per cent slump forecast by economists in a Bloomberg survey."

Do you not think the papers have an agenda ?

While the greens are all about taxing the people, Ryan will have no impact in government as no one will back his tax increases, hence the government will fall before xmas next year

Avenue in Maynooth started take away last week, first day had over 800 orders, so to handle the demand, you need to order a day in advance

What leaders want may not turn out to be the end result. Still a deal to be struck.

See the same in Galway. Restaurants with queues out the door to collect takeaways. Coffee shops and bakeries doing a brisk trade. People are finding ways to make their business work in advance of actually opening up

It`s quite possible that Ryan will not be Green Party leader for much longer depending on the result of the leadership challenge from Catherine Martin. And, regardless of who the leader is, no guarantee that the Greens membership will support going into government even if there is an agreement in the ongoing cross party talks.

It'll be a good deal if all three parties have members complaining about it!

So why do you want to reduce the social distancing measures when the virus has been controlled by them?

Obviously because 1 metre can "control" the virus. There is no paper out there that says 1 metre social distancing will let covid run rampant dont be a fool.

You see I understand dynamics of 28, 26% unemployment. I understand that KPMG are not talking out of their ar*e with below

The Government should consider introducing a zero VAT rate for some businesses, according to KPMG, one of the State’s largest accountancy firms. The call comes as new figures show the reopening of the construction sector failed to spark a swift rebound in activity last month.

    https://www.irishtimes.com/business/economy/kpmg-calls-for-zero-rate-vat-as-data-show-slow-economic-pick-up-1.4272962?mode=sample&auth-failed=1&pw-origin=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.irishtimes.com%2Fbusiness%2Feconomy%2Fkpmg-calls-for-zero-rate-vat-as-data-show-slow-economic-pick-up-1.4272962

We are in such a place that we ALL can agree phase 4 will be scrapped by 29th of June. Why? Not because we arent afraid of 2nd wave (that will not materialise anyway) but because we have absolutely no money to keep going and EU recovery fund gave us 1.91 bn.

    This is obvious no?

I do not say remove 1 metre social distancing, i am telling you that if we dont reduce it to 1 metre by 29th of June our country will face 12-15%+ unemployment into early 2022. This is something minister for finance has said.... this is not just me talking.

Why? If I want to eat at home I cook using produce I buy in supermarkets/delis/butchers/fishmongers and I buy Irish as much as I can.

When I want to eat out I eat in a restaurant with service to the table. They should be allowed to open.

Friday week I can fly to Germany and eat out in a restaurant. Happy days.

Well as you say at the end of the day it`s all opinions on both sides of the issue. Anyway the autumn isn`t that far away so we don`t have too long to find out what the outcome will be. The clock is ticking.

So you attack a poster because he commented on another post that he thought was funny and then twist it to make him sound like he was mocking the dying , completely untrue.

Now we have the above post that reeks hope of a second wave so you can prove a point and post on here “ i told you so” . Ffs

I love how OP thinks covid will wait until Autumn to re appear.

Just shows who we are talking to here

Don`t forget to wear your mask at all times while out in public before and after your meal in your German restaurant.

Aren't you lucky. Others here think it might be better to spend our money supporting local business who are going to great efforts to keep the revenue coming in. And your original remark was they you could not pay to get someone else to cook a meal for you, which is blatantly wrong.

Second wave could happen or might not. Winter over in China and numbers are good. Just wait and see.

Lockdown will happen very quickly if it does and be well after xmas before it would end

Its summer in China. And we know better how to trace and deal with any new peaks, plus we will get much more advanced warning, so lockdown may not be necessary for a second wave

If we are slower in opening up then people will go elsewhere. Restaurants are not open. And people like to be able to have a day in town shopping and then go for a meal. Getting a deliveroo to Grafton street is not an option and you have chosen to be a **** by misrepresenting what was clearly implied.

The madness of lecturing business this weekend on serving substantial meals in pubs is another Govt. blunder and the usual nanny state crap the blue shorts in health are ramming down our throats. There is no reason why homewares and many other retail outlets could not have been open for the last 3 weeks and restaurants and bars should be open today.

There should be no travel restrictions at all!
I don't think any other country in the world is doing this.....

Except the countries that are. Wales for example. The limit is 5 miles there. France is 100 km. Those are just two off the top of my head.

I'm open to correction, but I think France removed the restriction last week.

    In a word No

Complete reopening is what we want. Anything less is wrong IMO. We've less than 30 cases a day at this point.

The only thing I'd be cautious on is air travel and very large crowds such as concerts.

...so you don't want complete reopening then...?

It genuinely shocks me that anyone can look at a site like that, so riddled with utterly nonsensical conspiracy theory rubbish, and come to the conclusion that this is where I should go if I just want the "simple facts"

Contains about 60% facts, 30% misrepresentation of facts and 10% falsehoods

This bit stood out when dismissing the "disastrously wrong" models
Similarly, officials said, the new projection of 100,000 to 240,000 deaths is what convinced Trump to extend restrictions for 30 days and abandon his push to reopen parts of the country by Easter, which many health experts believe could have worsened the outbreak.

Given the article was published just a few days after the US passed 100,000 deaths, I fail to see how the above was not borne out by the models.

It seems to be a tactic of polemicists who try and steer a topic to a certain conclusion, even if the facts you are using to support your case dont actually do that, if you use them with enough confidence enough people will believe you that your message gets out there.

Then there are those who are able to think independently for themselves about whether or not these requests are reasonable and make up their own minds and act accordingly.

There's one thing doing as requested by the government for the betterment of all. There's another thing not liking it and doing whatever you think yourself.

Just back from being in the local shop near the office after getting lunch. 2m signs on the floor at the deli, were people 2m ? Not a chance in hell. As close as they always were

For every example someone posts on here of people ignoring the 2m rule, I have more examples of people obeying the rule. The local butcher only allows four people in the shop at any time and has markings on the street. Everyone sticks to it. Do you want more?

Nothing to do with conspiracy theories. Not sure where you're getting that from tbh. It won't tie in with the beliefs of those advocating a strict lockdown until we're all dead & buried but that doesn't make it rubbish. Refreshing to hear an alternate view to Simon & Tony.

Always wary of anyone pronouncing themselves to be a thinking man. Confirmation bias if ever I saw it. It's not even their own work and the kind of thing that gives the internet a really bad name. Written in that dreadful style of sentences surrounded by quotes it links out all over the place purporting to reach a conclusion they've already formed.
