Tony H and Paul Reid are second hand car salesmen, hopefully the government are copping on to that fact

The recent news from Wuhan mass testing is extremely positive, I have yet to hear our medical professionals or media in Ireland give it a mention. Only 300 cases found in 10 million tests, with all being asymptomatic and they didn’t pass it to their close contacts. The virus is dying out, Italian doctors have also mentioned this, and now some doctors in the US. We should be expediting the reopening wholesale now and fast.
Instead we get Sam McConkey in The Journal saying schools might not reopen fully until November?! When some European schools have been reopening since April/May?! Where do these doctors get their data? Mortgage breaks from banks will be finishing soon, the day in the sun for NPHET should be long gone if we had a government with any desire to actually lead.

The virus is not "dying out" is is being driven out. Wuhan drove it out and fair play to them, if we want to be like Wuhan we have to do the same. If we had widespead tests and it showed little Covid then we could open up more. But we have 300 cases a week, so we are not Wuhan yet.

I don't think Tony Holohan changed his plans for the roadmap at all. I think the government have listened to Holohan and NPHET and other voices this time around, and made their decision on Phase 2, whereas a month ago it would have only been Holohan and NPHET.

What a day we are having.

Feels like we are playing roulette and putting all our money on red 4 times in a row and winning

"Minister Heather Humphreys has said limited international air travel will return in the coming weeks as Ireland looks to negotiate 'air bridges' with countries who have suppressed Covid-19.

Ms Humphreys said it is a "challenging time for everyone" particularly those in the aviation industry as the "virus has no mercy", but that international travel will commence within weeks."

    https://www.independent.ie/life/travel/international-travel-to-return-within-weeks-via-air-bridges-as-phase-two-of-lockdown-rolls-out-39262248.html

At this rate, at about 2 o clock today we could hear announcement about coppers and diceys re opening dates being brought forward.

    Haha Coppers

Paul Reid was critical in pointing out the obvious on the 2m rule. Saying to Government that this would significantly reduce health care capacity showed the madness of this. He also highlighted how Nphet had overstepped in their role. He is the new non-medical CEO in an organisation which at best has been mediocre, and in my view he has performed quite well in the circumstances.

Usually about 4, after the Cabinet meeting.

It's about fcuking time the Government have decided to govern. It feels they've had to be dragged kicking and screaming into this

The 20km limit was completely nonsensical. And the forced closure of some retail units completely unjustified considering how food shops and off-licenses have remained open throughout.

It's also time to scrap the 2m rule.

Dr Tony will need to be prised away from the levers of power and I've no doubt there'll be a kickback from the fear-mongers and the lads getting their €350 a week.

We've already done untold damage to the economy with this hysterical overreaction. Now it's time to face down the bunker-dwellers.

Irish Times reporting this now :

A dramatic escalation of the roadmap to reopen Ireland is on the cards, with the Cabinet on Friday considering accelerating entire phases of the existing plan.

Well-placed sources have said the National Public Health Emergency Team (Nphet) has been asked to examine if entire phases can be brought forward or merged.

It is understood, however, that significant work would have to be done before this could be deemed to be possible.

Ministers are expected to consider such a move at their meeting on Friday morning.

The Government is considering the possibility that some pubs will open earlier than planned and the total lifting of travel restrictions is being discussed.

    Sounds positive :)

Which he's been saying in recent weeks anyway, it's just advice. On its own it was the right way to do things for a long time, now circumstances makes other considerations just as important.

We may see it dissolved before we get to the end of this.

I think he has too and so has Holohan despite the criticism. He has worked day and night on this issue and led a team that guided us through a potential disaster.

That is all very good, but we will still have three more weeks without restaurants, cafe's and pubs to sit down in.

Wish there was some movement on that from Monday along with the 2m rule (which are sort of hand in hand IMO).

780 active cases in ireland according to

    https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/#countries

yet the country is still mostly closed.
Whether virus is dying or not is a side-show. It's not fcuking here at this stage.

To keep a country closed down over 780 sick people - the mind boggles.

the closures , restrictions on our lives and the debt to be repaid is a load of bollocks at this stage.
Our leaders are fools. Dr Holohan is on a mad one , drunk on his own self importance.

I really think that would be too risky. If we open everything up together and things go wrong, we won't know what has caused it - is it pubs?, is it hotels, etc?

There'll always be plenty of other things to disappoint them so no danger of that!

The problem people had with Holohan was not his fault but rather the Government hiding behind him particularly when we went beyond the emergency phase in early May.

It is infuriating, but remember, the idiots will literally be paying for come the autumn for years. We all will. But at least there will be payback time

The good thing we will have is free choice. So if people feel the need that they want to volunteer for further lockdown they can just stay indoors.

Says "county", not "country". So not much better than the 20km limit. Probably worse in my case as my 20km radius included parts of Kildare, Meath and Wicklow.

Sucks for the poor ****ers in Louth.

The problem is some of us want to go out and about, but safely. Unfortunately there are idiots who think this is just another flu (despite all the evidence) and are quite capable of causing other people to get very ill.

it may look like that on the outside regarding Paul reid,
But on the inside that's not the case at all.
