    Sorry, what was expected?

This lad in Irish examiner expected deficit of over 3bn. Not bloody 5 bn

    "Wednesday, June 03, 2020 - 06:30 AM
New figures will throw new light on the huge costs in supporting the economy and on the long-term pain as more households lose their jobs amid the Covid-19 economic crisis.

Exchequer figures published later today will likely show that a ballooning deficit of over €3bn in May as the €2bn-a-month cost in the pandemic unemployment and wage-support schemes are added to the continuing healthcare costs in fighting the pandemic."

    https://www.irishexaminer.com/breakingnews/business/corporation-tax-revenues-set-to-be-bright-spot-in-covid-19-economic-crisis-1003059.html

    https://www.rte.ie/news/2020/0603/1145219-exchequer-returns-reveal-6-1bn-deficit-in-may/
Corporation tax came in €1.224bn ahead of last year. The Department of Finance puts this down to increased levels of profitability in some companies and a number of 'one off' factors.

The Deparment also notes that the 35.4% decline in VAT, while high, was less than projected. The fall off in income tax was also less than forecast.

    You know it.

Not that we should adhere to it because 1 m is safer or less safer, but because the trade of of businesses letting go of 50% of their staff and operating at 30-50% capacity for god knows how long and becoming nonviable is just too much of a trade off.

the 3% vs 13% is covid infection. then you gotta remember severe cases is only 20%, so you quickly arrive at very small numbers that our ICU and empty hospitals would easily be able to handle.

Talking about "yeah but if 4.9m population start to do 1 metre then 13% get infected" etc is waffle but You are a good poster and wont start this waffle i am sure.

Afterall, we are to live with the virus, not to eradicate it. Unless your name is Gerry, then you may just disagree with me.

Ha no I wouldn't, I'm not one for hyperbole. Was just wondering that you were getting at as it had more of a 'pro-lockdown' vibe than an 'anti-lockdown' vibe.. thought you were jumping ship :pac:

Is this the new "don't assume my gender"?

Do you genuinely think that the Irish approach to drink is the same as the Spanish, German or Belgian approach?

The bit in bold is plain nonsense.
And yes, I've seen as many drunks in Spain, Germany and Belgium as I've seen in Ireland. In my experience alcohol is enjoyed and abused more or less equally all over the western world.

Less than expected due to better than Corporation tax as Medtech sector booms and vat fall was less than expected

They're very cautious around the corporation tax, most of it relates to economic activity from 2019.

What a hero...the protest was Sunday afternoon and 72 hours later he/she come's out with this piece of fluff.

Children making it up as they go along

If I had to hazard a guess.. I'd say they reached out to a lawyer who advised they puts this out to a show a judge they were trying to be responsible / apologetic for their actions.

Zero chance, we've been hearing about weekend scenes with the last 6 weeks and the numbers are still reducing.

    Exactly

If the VFI said to all members open on June 29th what could the guards or government do?

    Very little

they could probably revoke their licenses.
whether they would do so is another thing but i suspect they could do it.
it would actually be a win as lots of us are sick of the VFI and the hold they have over the government in relation to alcohol sales and the ability to stifle competition via the likes of MUP.

They're going to start making ones with holes in front of the mouth area, to facilitate eating.

Some really interesting developments regarding the legal challenge in the UK against the lockdown. £160,000 pound has now been raised.

Update: Things seem to be moving very much in our favour - we keep fighting. Govt have until 12th June to issue full defence

The fight of course, continues. We won't stop until they have been held to account for this illegal lockdown. They have until 12th June to file their defence papers.

    Maybe

    Would they revoke all licences?

Not a hope in hell they would

Absolutely, the government have made a complete mess of reopening after the lockdown and people have now taken it into their owns hands.

    Ah, now I see.

The UK has the highest death rate per million.

However if you look at the rolling seven-day average, it is Sweden.

Maybe you could provide a link next time, for clarity?
Yes very selective posting re Sweden. If you look at deaths per million of population since start of virus, Belgium 822,Spain 580,UK 580 Italy 550
Sweden 450.No doubt all can see these numbers but not suiting their selective narrative.

Well the Tweet was about Belgium...

I imagine it will be very similar to France where you need masks when on the move but not eating or drinking

For what its worth, not that I pay much attention to these but its something Dr Tony is likely to show this evening. I worry for the 17% who think we're moving too quickly and the 6% who think much too quickly

I find it interesting how your post was completely ignored. People here seem to be in their own world thinking everyone is out of lockdown mode despite the surveys continually saying otherwise.

Interesting reading and certainly a potential template for here although outdoor eating will be a challenge given our climate and tiny paths.

The 1m distancing thing is crucial enough as well and far more workable than 2m.
