Does the suspected cases going down suggest negative results?

Yup as of 8pm there were 26 cases confirmed in Irish hospitals in the last 24 hours from the suspected cases. Vast majority are negative.

Limerick seems to have the most suspected cases as of this evening at 38 out of the 285

That's interesting that they were sick enough to be hospitalised but it's not COVID. The 26 also suggests that the community number in daily cases is incredibly low.

    Plenty of curves need flattening.

    Overwhelm the IC units.

He has a completed trial on an animal with the closest DNA to a human. You'd wanna put on your glasses if you can't find hope there. I'd say you're great fun at parties.

    Ah jaysus.

Yeah, now I'm not sure what way the HSE would classify a suspected case, it could be just every swab that's sent to the labs regardless of patient condition while they're in hosptial.

But the trend of confirmed cases in hospital is stable.

Bed capacity across the system is over 100 less than yesterday, so perhaps an indication of more people going to hosptial or some services restarting perhaps. As of 8am this morning there were 904 general beds available, that was at 1064 yesterday morning.

The news of the health and safety officers attending to workplaces is great news. There's probably many employers who would gladly throw their employees under the bus with this virus.
What visiting? HSA says it's not even inspecting meat plants from which they have complaint of breaches of guidelines.

There are 67 inspectors in total currently available to HSA, for ****s sake.

    Extra funding.

They're probably not getting any EU research funding. Probably receiving funding from either university endowment, UK government, British pharmaceutical companies or philanthropic organisations.

People have been beating that same drum since March and yet to quote cherryghost

So maybe wait until cases start to rise again before bleating out the self-loathing stuff.
You would swear Ireland was the Wild West from some of the posts on here when in reality, IMO we are quite a docile, fairly obedient lot in the vast majority.
Or maybe the day will come when people like you will understand the basics of exponential mathematics. when we see "cases start to rise again" it is already too late.
    You simply don't get that?
You think you can play poker with this thing?

    This could well happen.
We could be in for another 2 and half months of lockdown again is a short while if the numbers rise significantly, which will bugger things up even more.

I don't think we will re-enter lock-down as we have been under for the last 8 weeks. We simply could not afford it. If people aren't careful and this virus rises again then it will mean lots of deaths and our hospitals overrun. We will not be able to afford going back into lock-down over and over again.

So we won't, neither can other countries. What will happen is as soon as a half way decient vaccine is produced, it will be declared a miracle of science and human ingenuity and we will all take that.

If as few as 1 in 55000 have a bad outcome (aka life changing or dead) from it that would be deemed fantastic.

HSE Hosptial Operations report for today

As of 8pm there are 364 confirmed cases and 285 suspected cases.
At 8am that was 368 and 403 suspected cases so based off that 8pm figures we can clearly see that suspected cases doesn't quite tell us much about the overall trend.

As of 8pm 54 in ICU down 1 from yesterday with 1 less also reported on ventilator so good news for someone there.

Thank you for these posts about hospital/ICU numbers, they're always concise and informative

Surely given our generally low numbers of late we should be opening up a bit quicker?
I'm not saying open up pubs/nightclubs etc. but what is the difference between a hardware shop and a homeware shop?
Surely if you can socially distance in a hardware shop which as seen by 99% of the supermarkets we can then why not open these shops quicker?
I know there is an incubation period for virus but surely even a two week gap as opposed to three. Let's be honest it isn't going to have suddenly shot up because a few building sites, golf clubs and hardware sites opened is it?
Of course we want no deaths/cases but that's just very unrealistic and we could be waiting years for that.
    Anyway that's my 2 cents :)

    It's 2 metres you monster!

    2 metres!!

If the oxford vacinne comes out of human trials successful, even if it doesn't fully make the person immune but does stop the severe effects and the virus getting to the lungs then that's the game changer. I would imagine alot of nations saying that'll do.

If it takes the virus from being potentially quite aggressive to a weak form of it that'll be hailed as you say as a miracle of science

Which is why we need to behave like adults.

Not queuing for an hour to get into Woodies on day one to buy a can of paint when we could go next week when it will be half empty.
Not dancing up the street in out latest "Way to Amarillo" video making sure we are a maximum of 2 meters exactly from each other in the hope we can stick it to the virus and go viral on You Tube.

That's another reason why we need to play our cards sensibly with the first lockdown.

Opening up too soon won't be good for anybody, if the cases rise again because of it.

Brazil moves to 1,118 deaths so far for the day (new record). 16,290 new cases.

An atrocious example of the type of approach to these problems not to take.
