I'm struggling to make sense of that...
Most days have less than 20 new cases??

Yes but adding them all togethergives the 426 for today.
Realnumber should be between 140 and 200

Funny reading back on all the comments blaming the high number of “new” cases on people being out and about! When they announced a spike like that there was always going to be a logical explanation.

I think some people on here want to see an increase in numbers. It’s a bit sad really.

There's a possibility no contact tracing has been done for these cases

    Graph of numbers reported today.

Today’s number includes cases back to Mar 16th.

We were all so young and innocent back then.....

They said less than 200 no? I'm counting between 160 and 180

The report is saying 223 are historical

Is it until the middle of July that we must remain home (ie no leisure drives etc)

Now he's explained it, it is done in hospitals but they haven't any information as to what level was done with this batch.

It really doesn't help the trust in these people if they're just tossing out numbers and not giving proper context until after people start questioning.

Yeah but it's hard to know where to draw the line with that. A lot of cases are from a while back because there is a delay. So they obviously have a procedure in place where they announce how many cases were reported to them on a given day.

    Yes, apologies. I understand now.
That graph is of today's cases reported by lab specimen time.

So the hosptial invovled is legally obliged to report figures to the HPSC and now there'll be an investigation to see why they weren't reported.

Someone's going to be hung out to dry

Of the 140 cases a large proportion are from a meat plant in the south

It would have been by occupational health. See if a case occurs in a hospital where someone hasn't had any visitors then the only contacts would have been healthcare workers so occupation health contact those healthcare workers and they'll them to remain off work for 14 days.

Yeah he said that, but they've received no confirmation that it has been done.

I'm thinking it's either Limerick or Waterford. Only major hospitals will have 300+ cases. The CUH is empty so it can't be there.

Don't be so certain, a nurse I know caught it without even being in a covid ward. It is spreading in there alright. Self isolating at home so not even in the hospital. Another friend was in A&E over the weekend and said while a&e was quite the hospital itself was full enough, though not as full as before.

This might be the case in a lot of hospitals. My partner is a nurse in a hospital (not in the south) and she's been a close contact a couple of times. Each time she was contacted by occupational health not by contact tracing.

COVID ward was fumigated and cleared out today so I highly doubt there's a known spread in CUH.

Thats pretty much what the CMO said in the first 5 minutes of today's briefing.

Sorry if it's been asked, it's moving at a fast space.

But with the likes of garden centres and that opening from Monday - is there a limit to how far you can travel to one?

No. 5km is for exercise only.

Just have a look at what’s been reported today.

March cases reported in May  equals a shambles absolute shambles

Mother of god it’s disastrous carry on.

You’re either on a windup or have been living under a rock for the last 2 months if you think the world has time to be laughing at us over a delay in reporting a couple of hundred cases.

    Get a grip ffs.

They said there was no human to human transmission and haven't been back since
AFAIR they said in mid-Jan that there was limited evidence of human-human transmission, the same day they tweeted that there was no clear evidence of human-human transmission.

Whether one likes it or not, further visits to China were politicised by the US, the net result is that we will be totally dependant on official Chinese sources for further information.

However there are indications that they will cooperate with Canada on vaccine developement.

Yeah we had the testing backlog and the German numbers and we were told not to worry as have occurred in the past and not representative of the trend. now we have the hospital backlog numbers and same message.

In fairness I’m glad to see an organisation hold their hands up and admit a mistake. Better than covering it up.

That’s not correct. The stay at home restriction remains in place, which means you should only go out for exercise (within 5k) or ESSENTIAL journeys (no limit).

All non essential journeys, of which a trip to a garden centre would be one, are to be avoided.

All per the document published last Friday week, so may change tomorrow.
