Population adjusted this is not remotely true.

The more elderly in a country the higher number of deaths.

    We haven't done well

Of course. But don't see your point.
UK and us are highest deaths per population.

That was the beauty of Covid.
At first they said 120k deaths in Ireland. (que pandemonium among public)
We have less than 2k and seemingly its because of restrictions and the response of Tony and Co.
It was ingenious to suggest 120k deaths, a cushion of lies if you will

    What a childish post.

About as half baked as your comment. A lot of the countries quoted had the disease more than 3 weeks before us . Understand ?

Leo reckons we had it in January.

The date of the first recorded case is not the date we first had it.

    Understand?

Do you suggest Ireland would have 120k deaths?

You mean they realized they had the disease 3 weeks before we realized we had it?

You are not doing well tonight.

    No first confirmed case, troll.

My Dutch friend told me earlier their bars open up again on June 1st. It is a bit odd how different countries are with their timelines. Personally I'm enjoying not having the pub as an option for a while as it saves me a fortune wealth and healthwise!

Figures are a relief tonight but really hope they point to positive uplands ahead. And don’t shoot up again tomorrow. The community figures are really positive- if the HSE and authorities hadn’t messed up the care homes management then we’d be a closer to exit. We must bring forward all the dates substantially. We just can’t afford for this to drag on a day longer than it needs to. Despite a hopeless unaccountable civil service and political system this is a fantastic country and I’ve great hope for the future if we can get going ASAP - the damage can be curtailed.

Oh, what will you make of mine?

Imperial college have predicted 65,000 deaths in UK from Swine Flu. 392 people died.

They have also predicted death and destruction for 500,000 dead for UK from Covid19, professor lockdown who predicted this nonsense has since stepped down as he broke lockdown rules twice, to meet a girl. The classic thing to do during a deadly pandemic.

There is difference between diagnosing new cancers and screening routinely . A lot of screening is being pushed out no doubt , to the maximum time limit that is allowed.
I do still say that if you have any issues you should ring your doctor. I say this because of a similar issue and it was done straight away .

    You are oversimplifying it now.
People at high risk of developing cancer like myself, so high risk that I have been a patient in that clinic for the last 4 years, have had their preventative screening appointments cancelled.
It isn’t being pushed out to the maximum time limit allowed, it’s simply cancelled indefinitely until they decide otherwise.
People who are in remission are having their follow up screenings to ensure they are still cancer free cancelled.
This isn’t ‘routine screening’ yet these services still aren’t available.

This isn’t a case of not being able to access a smear test or mammogram just because you feel like having one (even though that isn’t ok either), this is the mass cancellation of necessary medical screenings & treatments for people who previously had cancer or who are at high risk of developing cancer.

I see another health scandal looming and an enquiry into the many preventable deaths this is going to cause. People are staring so hard at coronavirus they can’t see the fact that the world is on fire all around it, and no one is doing anything to help.

    Thats pretty rude.

Coming from a person who doesnt know that its Tony Holohan, the cervical check disaster Holohan, as CMO. Not Tony OBrien.

    Anyways, news update below:

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar says it's 'very possible' COVID-19 was in the country last year

    Those pesky Norwegians.

Buts its ok, they reported their first covid case 3 months before we did. Cough cough*

    "
Norway has announced schools will be able to reopen on Monday and bars from 1 June. Cultural and sporting events of up to 200 people can start on 15 June"

Are we on the same planet? I am struggling to understand how can Norway allow 200 people gathering 15 June, but I cant get a haircut until 20th of July?

There are 2 types of people in this thread, medical experts and common sense people.

Unfortunately our government is full of medical experts too.

A lot of doomsayers too, the classic "How do you know virus wont spread quickly if restrictions are lifted".

I ll tell you how, look at Denmark, Germany, Czech republic, Norway, Finland, Any BBC SKY NEWS 20 000 die in 1 day articles coming out? Half of US states have opened up. Thats 170 million + people for crying out. Where is the 2nd virus outbreak? Where?

That Japanese island that has less than 1000 covid cases? (not deaths, cases) Give me a break.

The news outlets are driving the hysteria in the main but our government aren't helping.

Two things stand out for me so far. This disease negatively affects/kills overwhelmingly those with chronic underlying conditions in the over 80s age group. I wish Holohan would say this just once rather than continue with the vague mean and median nonsense.

This category were already on deaths door. Their lives may have been shortened by at most a year possibly less.

Of 6400 healthcare workers 5 unfortunately died. This is predominately the 20-60 age group. A fatality rate of 0.1% in this category. The fatality rate from any number of cancers is far higher in this age category and if untreated will cause far more deaths. Some peoples lives in this category will be shortened by decades.

Trump doesn't because he is an idiot.

1,747 new deaths today across the US, total 74,018 so far.

Sadly, it's going to get epic over there.

No it wont. They have the exact same death rate as us. It might be maybe 20% worse in the end as their population is obese/underlying conditions and healthcare access is poor. Daily new cases will reduce from now on give or take same as us. Does not matter what happens in any of the States. I guarantee you you wont see an exponential increase in cases no matter what happens (across the usa).

Feeding into it and indeed revelling in it - ala Leo's big speech and interview Friday night. Whips the nation into a frenzy.

Simple solution. Go to Norway on one of your beloved cheap bargain summer flights and get your haircut while you`re over there. Gather together with 199 of your buddies in a bar while watching a sporting event for good measure.

Do you think Simon Harris shouldnt look at other countries who are already 3 4 weeks out of lockdown and, if they dont have 10 000 + body bags on the streets maybe follow them?

I'm playing catch up on this thread. Forgive me if this has already been mentioned...but what countries are three or four weeks out of lockdown? If you mean countries that have eased some restrictions, following the logic, you also must mean that, come the 18th of this month, we're out of lockdown too?

Gigs '24 - Ben Ottewell and Ian Ball (Gomez), The Jesus & Mary Chain, The Smashing Pumpkins/Weezer, Pearl Jam, Green Day, Stendhal Festival, Forest Fest, Electric Picnic, Pixies, Ride, Therapy?, Public Service Broadcasting, IDLES, And So I Watch You From Afar

Gigs '25 - Spiritualized, Supergrass, Stendhal Festival, Forest Fest, Queens of the Stone Age, Electric Picnic, Vantastival

People are saying Spain are out of lockdown but my folks can only go outside during a certain 2 hour slot based on their age down there at the moment. You also can't leave your communidad.

The world and posters on here, has been conditioned to always obey society's P.C standards. Those P.C standards prevent the difficult questions being asked due to some rhetoric every life is vital or throw the elderly under the bus.
The bottom line is, we can't say with any confidence if anyone who died with Covid would be alive today if Covid didn't exist. Death is a reality, for every age, everyday of every year.
