Representative from Irish Spa Association on Radio 1 at lunchtime seeking meeting with government

They want to open in June not July 20th

25,000 employed in the industry apparently

Government will come under pressure from the likes of hairdressers as well

I won't be wearing a mask unless there's proper guidance on the type of mask that works, and evidence that it works.

I'm not going to wear some crappy mask that's 1% effective so that some combeen can come up and cough in my face. I'll stand 2m away without a mask, thanks.

But if they're wearing a mask also, it mitigates some risk, no? If it's what is getting Czech Republic, Germany and Austria opened faster and successfully keeping R0 below 1, wouldnt it make sense to all wear them in indoor public spaces?

buying a mask for 10 euro which normally cost 1 euro - no, thanks.

The instructions wont be for masks. They will be for face coverings. Fabric is better as can be washed every day after use. And I imagine that they will be mandatory in certain circumstances, like on public transport. So best start fashioning your bandana!

If you listen to Leo then no they wont be mandatory. They legally can't be made mandatory here at the moment due to the sh1t show in forming a government.

I would love to know what is going to be different from the situation we have now on the 18th of May or the 08th June of the 29th of June.

It's absolutely criminal that we still have these lockdown measures in place.

We have crippled the economy and added 10's of billions to our national debt for fcuk all benefits.

    The numbers will be different.

No one can say what numbers that need to be different actually are or how different they need to be mind you!

Its nothing short of criminal now the damage that is being done with this kick the can down the road plan.

Compared to the time frames in most other places we are almost alone as a complete outlier.

The government, the medical experts and nobody supporting the lockdown seems to be able to answer this question.

If less than 100 in ICU = lockdown for 2 more weeks, what numbers need to be achieved to enter phase 1 or even 5?

No worries, there is a big magical money pot where they get 350 for 0.5-1 million population. They surely could look again inside the pot and find extra 10 billion.

You forgot the overweight and obese, they are turning out to be a very at risk group once they get it, 73% according to UK tv this morning of all people in critical condition fit into that category and not confined to any age group as such.

One thing I noticed about many of the younger deaths who had "no underlying health condition" is that they were almost universally obese... no cardiovascular reserve at all

Billions added to our national debt through lost economic activity and supports. Off hand that's the only difference I can think of.

The thing is that was always going to happen.

I know of companies that would be deemed to be an essential business under the current circumstances but decided to hold back and put their shoulder to the wheel for example in the belief locking down for 3 weeks up to the bank holiday weekend would help control this and therefore restrictions eased after 3 weeks.

A few of these ive spoken to have decided enough is enough, theyre back operating from this week. These are companies that could have been operating but decided to be good citizens and lock some of their staff down , go that extra bit for the few weeks.

Other companies again in the essential business sector took similar approaches in not giving all their staff letters to go out about their business even though technically they could have, again i know a few of these companies who plan to give more of their staff letters to move out and about as part of their business.

Ignoring any semblance of people not obeying restrictions going forward there was undoubtedly going to be more people out and about from today imho.

I've yet to hear anyone praise it at all, though i know very few hypochondriacs that like being on the dole or RTE script readers.

Ban the cyclists from our roads, they say.
Look, there are many free PS games available to stay inside during lockdown!

We also share a land border with the country with the most deaths in Europe. 500000 of our citizens live in Northern Ireland.

Are there 1 million Irish passport holders in mainland UK (remember they all got them for Brexit)

Might we see an influx of Irish passport holders from the UK due to us having eased restrictions before them.

Another €700 covid payment in our bank today. My bank balance is stable.

I know a house getting €1050, one of them had a full time job, partner and over 18 kid both part timers.

They earn more now than when they were all working and they have far smaller outgoings.

    You couldn't make it up.

Are you referring to their plan or the roadmap? Nothing stopping any group proposing alternatives to the roadmap but any measures will have to tick the boxes. Roadmap was needed . What parts do you think should be done differently.

The fact it covered part timers fully and not a pro rata to to match their p/t earnings was/is lunacy. A license to burn money

I agree with you on this. My post was defending Jacinda Ardern (wasn't me who brought Charlie Haughey into it ). She is far from a raving lunatic, she is one of the most respected leaders in the world currently.

You do realise who she is in government with?
    Who the deputy pm is?
And the donations scandal that is being investigated and how she will not take any stance on it bar it’s not her party
She is a female Leo, all spin and no real substance
She is respected outside her country more then within it
She has not built the 100k social homes promised
She has actually done very little bar virtue signal at a level the is so nauseating
The polls in February were not so good for her or her party
This virus might give her a short boost but her days are numbered
She’s a lunatic just like we have our own lunatic
    All style no substance

    No one knows.

Its part of the beauty of the roadmap.

All going well we get through this within that timescale or who knows maybe even sooner depending on how our numbers are.

Ok cool, what do our numbers need to be

Emmmmmm mumbles as low as possible!

As a stopgap payment it makes sense and it is far easier and quicker to set up and manage if everyone in the audience gets it. It's also taxable income or it will be.

Thats precisely whats occuring now. Multiple associations of various business sectors are getting touch with the government and telling them - hey, we can do social distancing in May, June. we dont need to wait until July or August and borrow more of interest free loans from you, we can do business now, safely.

And I hope that ALL business associations will do this, because there is virtually so little evidence of things being better in August than in June in terms of safety.

If government were getting extra ICU beds and wanted to wait till August - I would say, well not great, you should have ICU beds in case of ANY pandemic. but ok, its reasonable to wait. They arent doing any of this, just paying private hospitals 110m euro per month to stay empty.

There were people on boards saying they flew in from Canada etc. applied for it and got it, even they hadn't even worked here in years.

I know somebody who was completely on the black economy, applied for it, got it, and is still working away on the black economy.

At a guess anywhere below the 60-70 mark on ICU and new cases in double figures at most.
