I certainly will not be adhering to that gibberish

How do we not if there’s Garda checkpoints?
I’m a bit shocked with the scale and brevity of the extended lockdown. The country is going to be almost shuttered until autumn.
I don’t get any sense the economic costs have been grasped in the Taoiseach's PR speech. We are likely to see many business go to the wall in the coming weeks

Definitely. It's far enough into the future to not have to worry about but gives us an idea of the road map. There's not a hope in hell that pubs and bars are opened by then.

Italy planning on opening theirs in June or July so I don’t see why we couldn’t by August.

I actually don’t care when pubs open. The only restriction I care about is visiting other houses which is set to lift for us on June 8 so I’m happy enough with the announcement today.

With flights still going too, you can actually fly out of the country and have other familt members fly out in order to meet them and then fly back.

Or fly out and get a haircut and come back.

But can't do those things in the country.

Some of it is a bit nonsensical even though I'm someone in agreement with restrictions

So can everyone know stop going on about flattening the curve being the goal of this lockdown. NPHET have now decided that complete suppression is the end goal and to hell with the consequences.

I'd also like someone in the media to ask Leo to back up his claim that the ICU departments would be overrun in a matter of days if we didn't follow this path.

I see no good reason to extend this out past August. That's over 4 months away and will be 6 months in total. The main concern I have with stretching it out that long is we get into Flu season not long after that. Lord knows what measures will be brought in then. Bloody scary time coming up and we seem to be lead by a half baked cabinet, some of whom aren't even elected TD's anymore.

The issue is we are the only EU country listening only to the Medics. The other EU countries are debating and the doctors and economists are trashing it out. Even Germany had riots, we have people reporting each and the Gardai media representative making a clown of themselves on twitter

A lot of business we awaiting the announcement this evening to make a decision on viability. Waiting months on end to reopen was a non runner

The thread is full of the lockdown enthusiasts tonight. And rightly so, today is the day ye have won. Well done.
I really do hope that the saving lives before economy rhetoric works out, I really do. I hope when the Exchequer has bled the last of its cash in August and cant pay public service wages that we will remember all those lives we have saved.
The government has chosen lives over economy according to some here. Perhaps someone could explain how taking over the private hospitals and leaving 2000 beds empty for 6 months and 500 consultants twiddling their thumbs fits into the lives over economy rhetoric?
Wheres the testing we were promised?
Wheres the PPE for the health workers?
Why are the hospitals now empty?
This is a management issue and always has been, and unfortunately that management has been allowed continue its clueless guidance and lack of transparency.
As of May 4th we have the most restrictive economic policy in Europe, and its due to an absence of leadership.

Not a lockdown enthusiast at all, just doing what's asked by the government.

And im still waiting to see your plan .

They have not done everything perfect by any means but I would prefer too many beds to not enough beds and you do realise they had no way of knowing how many they would need.

If there was a shortage of beds that would cause an uproar

Ye, think so. Was probably going to happen sooner or later anyway but it's essentially another 5 weeks of this crap. The timing makes it hurt a bit more though.

Upside is I'm two minutes from the beach and now have plenty of time to enjoy it again!

But they are asking you not to travel, What part of ''Do not travel'' Don't you understand ?

Everyone's life wasn't all grand and dandy before all this happened and the COVID restrictions are making previously difficult situations even more difficult for a lot of people. Travelling elsewhere during the restrictions for some people is not about going on holiday, it's about getting away from a very difficult home life and trying to deal with COVID-19 the best way that they can.

Now where did I say anything of that? How do you know I’m alright, you don’t even know me. Now keep your head rammed into the sand with the rest of the sheep all you like. This is a blueprint for national bankruptcy on top of the past few months of it.
This is a fact - if you’re ok with mass unemployment, severe cuts to all public spending, wholesale business collapse , home repossessions etc. The price tag is absolutely massive

Grand, they have a plan and it's fairly detailed. Seems a bit slower than other countries but at least it's adjustable.

Now am I missing something or have they decided on targets for the phases? Is it negative growth in new cases? Confirmed cases? Or are these targets a bit vague? It would be helpful to define the targets for people, at least for the next phase, so we've an idea of how we're getting on. If nothing else, if people see it veering off they might be more inclined to stick to it to help achieve a goal. If they don't know the goal, then it's trickier.

Apparently 60% of people in ICU with Covid in Europe and north America are obese , not getting reported for PC reasons - but it is probably a good indicator why mortality rates are not higher in Developing countrys , ok to hammer smokers, but not discuss this issue in main media.

Did you notice at all that majority is actually from nursing homes ? As usual fu*k elder

Absolutely fine with it all, only people who live above their means are in trouble. The people with savings and jobs will be grand.

Tell that to Gardai several times on your way there. I am sure the local's will greet you with open arm's too. I did not know you were different to the rest of us, sorry.

There’s no way they’re going to be able to keep the same level of checkpoints they have now into July. They said themselves that won’t be feasible for much longer. He’ll probably make it down to his holiday home with no issue and fair play to him!

There are other medical procedures taking place at the minute. Obviously not all but not everything has stopped except vivid cases
