    Carry on and enjoy so

No we will have deaths before, during and after covid, about 56m per year in fact. Doubt this year will be any different

You might just let the government and HSE know that and they can let us all get back to normal so

The lives have been saved, the curve flattened, the PPE brought in, the staff trained up, the social distancing habits formed, the extra beds and step down facilities put in place.

So with that in mind, I won't be waiting until mid July to see the other half, it's been 7 weeks since I've seen them and held them, I've given my compliance, they've had their time, the deaths are down and community spread surpressed.

I shall be seeing them come Tuesday, I don't accept the further moved goalposts from the original Easter Sunday goal to this Tuesday and now to July, I've a right to see my spouse and I shall see them, I'd like to see a judge try and enforce these laws from stopping me seeing them.

Is this all just a thinly veiled
    "I have a Boyfriend/Girlfriend" flex?

So all you people doing this are ok with people going to holiday homes now?

No, the current restrictions ran until Monday night, but come Tuesday if they act responsibly, socially distance, comply with good hand hygeine and limit their movements and contacts then I see no difference in them staying in their holiday home vs their regular home, provided they comply with the pragmatic advice designed to limit the spread.

I think these relaxation of restrictions are going to be very difficult to plan and to do.
Much more difficult than an all or nothing approach.
I hope there are sharp minds on it, who manage to deliver a clear and concise message. A message that the authorities and public can understand. With not much room for misinterpretation.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

And things change. This virus is new and un known

Yes they had a target but obviously things change and we have to adapt

Well, I fully intend going to my holiday home before July. It's in the countryside with very little people nearby, much easier for social distancing during exercise than trying to negotiate crowded footpaths in the built-up area where I'm currently.

My current living situation is also not very pleasant, so I need to get away from here after being cooped up here for 7 weeks. My mental health needs it!!!

It is not all about you and your issues. Many people are suffering totally, like I am myself in various ways.

We have to make it a global issue.

But have to say the tiny funerals really get me.

Phase 5 will be starting August 10 - Pubs will be shut until then .
Another 101 days before I’ll have a drink if there’s any pubs left functioning at that stage

You can get drink in any of the major supermarkets....how do you not know this?

Genuinely cannot believe some of the posters on here. People complaining about the 'Blueshirts' choosing to prioritise lives over the economy? Really? Goes to show that you can never win. If they reopened everything and the numbers exploded you'd have the same gob****es on here banging on about R numbers etc. and how they made a balls of it.

Pathetic, really. Even now you have people saying they didn't shut the borders quickly enough, conveniently forgetting that it was Irish people coming back from abroad who brought it in. You can't refuse your own citizens re - entry, but if you tried then the same rabble would be up in arms about gubbermint interference.

Tell that to Gardai several times on your way there. I am sure the local's will greet you with open arm's too. I did not know you were different to the rest of us, sorry.

Without social distancing? Unfortunately that will only be safe when we've defeated the virus with either a vaccine or a treatment. Hopefully we'll see easy-to-use home tests as well in the future.

We will be able to meet in groups over time, but no hugging or close contact.

"Stage 5" looks like a bucket to throw stuff into which are never going to be opened before a vaccine. I wouldn't hold my breath we'll meet that date.

Definitely. It's far enough into the future to not have to worry about but gives us an idea of the road map. There's not a hope in hell that pubs and bars are opened by then.

Some of these EU countries have 200k cases and 20k deaths..

We are on the island. The natural barrier to any infection. Easy to monitor borders. the only problem is NI border, but I believe it would be much easier and cheaper to monitor NI border than the whole county national roads. OR could made an agreement with UK that they close the borders with NI.

Expand on you logic and reasoning a bit just to sheer me up while I am enjoying a cold beer.

At least we have some sort of a plan now. Makes the lockdown easier to put up with.

20th of July to visit any family if they are outside of 50k. Is that correct? Jokeshop if so.

You don't think it has anything to do with how the government's reacted and the HSE's competency? I mean Feargal Bower's point about May the 18th being the HSE's target for testing alone is interesting. If it was earlier, then it's likely Phase 1 would be earlier. So it's not just what the virus is doing - it's the speed of the reaction to it too.

Of course - it is a combination of the situation itself and our government/public sector's ability to cope with it which will allow for a relaxation of restrictions. It is what it is.

HSE/Dept of Health have always struggled with some basics that people expect from a health service in a wealthy country and there are many reasons for this. I'm sure the toss has been argued back and forth on too many posts and threads to count over the years.

Health service and some aspects of the public sector don't suddenly become top class/world beating, like superman shedding the Clark Kent disguise right when we badly need them. They haven't done too badly at all so far I think, could have been a lot worse (with many more deaths).

Oh god I am so sick of this sanctimonious crap on this site. They literally said they will be in contact with fewer people if they reside there, therefore they are actually putting themselves and others at a lower risk by being there. If I had a holiday home I’d piss off to it too. Some people just like to be cranky on here for the sake of it and a few thanks

If you read the framework document, it says both that aspects from later phases can be brought forward and that economic considerations can supervene.

So I don't see how anyone can say for definite, unless they have secret knowledge or secret connections they're not mentioning.

Fine. If you die with no collateral damage, that'd be great. I've NO issue with you removing yourself from the gene pool, as you seem determined enough to do it anyways.

But supposing you contract it... Who do you pass it to while you're asymptomatic? Which of your loved ones are expendable? Do you know their known medical status? What about any unknown conditions they may have? Think of your loved ones... Which one would you be most okay with burying?

And then, think of the medical staff you'd impact. Doctors, nurses, paramedics... They'd all be potentially exposed to you while treating you. What if you fatally infect one of them? Or one of their loved ones, by proxy?

    See how this works?

And if you still say no, it says a lot more about you, your intelligence, your empathy and your level of responsibility than anything else.

None of us like this situation, but we act like grown ups and make a current temporary sacrifice for a future positive outcome.

I think people didn’t read my post. I’ve barely left the house so not spreading to anyone.
I just stated that I don’t give much of a toss about Covid.
    Economic impact will hit harder.

Nice holier than thou rant all the same.

The thread is full of the lockdown enthusiasts tonight. And rightly so, today is the day ye have won. Well done.
I really do hope that the saving lives before economy rhetoric works out, I really do. I hope when the Exchequer has bled the last of its cash in August and cant pay public service wages that we will remember all those lives we have saved.
The government has chosen lives over economy according to some here. Perhaps someone could explain how taking over the private hospitals and leaving 2000 beds empty for 6 months and 500 consultants twiddling their thumbs fits into the lives over economy rhetoric?
Wheres the testing we were promised?
Wheres the PPE for the health workers?
Why are the hospitals now empty?
This is a management issue and always has been, and unfortunately that management has been allowed continue its clueless guidance and lack of transparency.
As of May 4th we have the most restrictive economic policy in Europe, and its due to an absence of leadership.

Can someone explain to me why I can buy, stationery in Dealz but my stationers has to remain closed, plants in Supervalu but my Garden Centre has to remain closed; music in Aldi but my musical shop has to remain closed, flowers in Tesco but my florist has to remain closed etc etc. Also why don't the smaller specialist shops campaign for earlier reopening.

Not naming names but I know of a few shops that fall under a category you listed above that continue to operate during the lockdown despite being deemed non-essential by the government. Granted, their premises weren't opened to the public but they continued to sell online. Shops selling this type of item were not on the government list for either high street or even online only.

I wonder was there some leeway given here between the guards and businesses that could still function online but weren't included as essential on that list.

I agree with a lot of it but I do think there are some mistakes in it.

Hairdressers for one seems way too far away. Some of the when you can visit family is also a bit far.

Thought they might allow pubs that serve food to open for limited hours at same point as restaurants too. Close before 10 sort of job as long as there can be social distancing.

I think cinemas could have been phase 4 too as long as they did they empty every second seat like they had done pre lockdown.

I agree with most of it, but I feel like some phases are a bit too cautious, even for me, and I'm very risk averse

So can everyone know stop going on about flattening the curve being the goal of this lockdown. NPHET have now decided that complete suppression is the end goal and to hell with the consequences.

I'd also like someone in the media to ask Leo to back up his claim that the ICU departments would be overrun in a matter of days if we didn't follow this path.

I see no good reason to extend this out past August. That's over 4 months away and will be 6 months in total. The main concern I have with stretching it out that long is we get into Flu season not long after that. Lord knows what measures will be brought in then. Bloody scary time coming up and we seem to be lead by a half baked cabinet, some of whom aren't even elected TD's anymore.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"
