I wish more people could grasp this! But every time money / economy comes up somebody will say that lives are more important, without realizing how many more lives will be destroyed if we stick with this approach.

The reality is the Nazis are getting off on this. They love to see everybody restricted, jobs lost, businesses closed, families devastated after spending years or even lifetimes building up a business.

I'd say they are the type that sit at home every Saturday night delighted with themselves that they got the cheapest special offer alcohol available during the week.

    Saddos.

It is his doing that he sent Covid Patients into Nursing homes and the let the virus spread there like wildfire by not screening or preparing the staff.
Most of the deaths we are seeing at the moment are directly his doing.

Despite this, people seem happy to accept his diktats as regards teh general public.
Unbelievable the sheep mentality of a lot of people.

He gave advice, he's an advisor, it was not his decision. Harris follows his advice but it's Harris's decision at the end of the day, why didn't he listen to the advice saying the opposite as there was some dissenting voices. Harris rates people on his preceived intelligence of them nothing more.

There’s no money for supports. There won’t be money to pay social welfare. Everyone will be screaming for more funds from a vastly shrinking pot. Completely unsustainable situation

Don't waste your time. There's a crew here who genuinely believe they'll be getting their €350 a week indefinitely.

That's because Public Health considerations do come first during a pandemic.

That's what you need to grasp.

The government so far haven’t been honest on this score.
If someone was bothered to do some quick figures and models of forecast revenues vs spending cuts it would soften a lot of coughs. Instead they’re saying we will just borrow and then hope for the best

Then his advice was off .The CMO gave poor advice at the time so it is natural that people now might question his advice

In fairness it's provides a handy way for posters to self-identify as morons.

Ah, just like those who over-use alliteration

Ah sure you just borrow then. What could possibly go wrong?

Yes and a lot of people are avoiding hospitals because of this and things that should be picked up are being missed.

People often go to the hospital or GP for something quite innocuous and then something more sinister is picked up, and often caught early.

    These are being missed now.

That's leaving aside the mental health side of things, or the person living with a tyrant who gets no escape at all now.

A lot- they could effectively stop lending to us by upping the interest rates. Everyone else will need a bailout too- then what?

Almost every country in Europe has done this for us now, they all have announced plans with dates at this stage, and most have actually started implementing them now. They have no excuse not to copy everyones homework at this stage.

If every country had that attitude nothing would ever happen.

The UK is the big outlier and I fear we're going to hitch our wagon to those wasters and be stuck in the mire for months.
Yeah and youll be the first in your little wagon with your arm out for the vaccine if and when its available and I truly hope its WHEN. Youll also be the first into the pub when your vaccinated up to watch the premier league on Sky and have perhaps have a visit from one of your many relatives that went over to the UK on one of the many times the economy collapsed here in the past.

But people don't get to the post of CMO without knowing their stuff. You can say what you want but random posters on boards don't know more than the CMO, despite the fact that they would like to think they do.

Gov ministers aren't qualified to make medical decisions. They have to take the advice given to them, and this ultimately comes from the CMO.

Do you think Harris should have listened to Irelands CMO and his advice, then said "naw tell you what, I'm going to opt for another plan of action that (insert random country here) are doing instead".

We'll leave it to the lockdown crew pocketing their €350 to answer.

Dr Holohan warned the minister that to announce a review “could unnecessarily undermine public confidence in CervicalCheck” when there was “no evidence at this stage that there are quality or patient safety concerns with the CervicalCheck programme”.

The minister ignored Dr Holohan’s advice and announced a review that day.

Domestic violence victims hiding in sheds.

Just one micro consequence of this government's hammer.

I'm not a virologist but taking people out of hospital with Covid and putting them into nursing homes was downright stupidity of the highest order.
Who made that call, who took the bad advice. Harris was gleeful after solving the trolley crisis, he's a fully fledged idiot.

Your wrong they don't have to take the advice, it's just that advice, should Harris have used some critical thinking, absolutely. Should he have got different opinions, absolutely.
Did he, no he didn't and he's lack of leadership has now resulted in many deaths. He's can't worm his way out of this by saying he was acting on advice when he didn't bother his arse scrutinising the advice.

one of the many other problems associated with our Government (Nanny state) obsessions with lockdown to tackle Covid , when ther are other approaches and other serious problems, but nevermind hunker down for another few weeks, Covid is the only problem in the world right now according to Simon and Co.

Some of the latest analysis is projecting a potential €30bn deficit this year.

    https://www.businesspost.ie/economics/budget-deficit-could-hit-30bn-this-year-8b125be0

This is a truly frightening figure.

We are already €200bn in debt from the last recession.

The electorate don't want to hear about prudent management and tough decisions and there is a host of political parties that will pander to them.
Borrow, borrow borrow and spend spend spend will be the cry of the masses.
We have a weak Government about to take the reigns of power and the leader of the largest opposition party is mouthing platitudes about taking on a €12bn a year unification project, as directed by her shadowy overlords in the 'army council'.
    This is our political landscape.

We are borrowing against our children's and grandchildren's futures. What kind of a world are we bequeathing them? A poisoned environment and a wrecked economy crippled with debt.
And this is the generation we hope will pay our pensions when the time comes.

We will be viewed as cowardly, greedy and self-centered by future generations and it is all we deserve.
