Is it just ourselves and the UK left now to not announce any plan to reopen society and the economy ?? Off the top of my head it seems as if every other country has laid out the plan.

Italy really going for it with restaurants and bars back open in June. Timelines seem a little tight though.

We will be back up running by June 1st as well. Its great news from Italy. Really lifted my spirits. An inquest is still required in Ireland though

We are supposedly a couple of weeks behind them on "the curve"

The devil is in the detail as to what restrictions are to be in place for bars and restaurants etc.

Yeah I'm sure they'll release more information on that closer the time as to what the restrictions are in those environments.

It's an ambitious timeline to say the least but best of luck to them because they've been kicked around by this, hope it works out for them and they get some sort of normality back.

We wont ease restrictions until after June weekend.
Maybe slight tweaks....extending travel limits by a few km....few more shops open but nothing major.
Summer a bit more easing and see how it goes approach.

Someone suggested no pubs until next year. That sort of stuff is a non runner. Possibly June 1st is a now or never date.If they don't restart by then they never will

I'd imagine if they were to ease the restrictions they would also reduce the presence of Garda checkpoints. So even if you did breach the restrictions you would be less likely to be stopped.

Agree, but need to see how easing restrictions goes in other countries ahead of us.

Yep. The Italians are great business people and aren’t going to sit around waiting to die. So many of them run their own small businesses over there. Half the donkeys over here would rather sit around waiting for some lethargic civil servant to tell them what they can have for breakfast and where.
For nation that supposedly prides our hard won liberty, there isnt the half a huge cohort that would bend over and give it up

They would be obsolete. And not before time, they are an utter waste of time and resources and driving a wedge between people and a once respected force

I am sure they are sick to death of it too.

If it pisses rain a few days it will get grim pretty quick.

Sad thing is, pubs will never be the same again.

The MUP contingent will rue the day. Be careful what you wish for. As they say.

Off sales are out the gap now.

We should stay a month behind Italy and watch how it goes for them and learn lessons.

Make no mistake, It has the potential to backfire badly.

There an article doing the rounds written as a parody which goes on about the great news of the pubs being open in December 2024. It’s fairly obvious it’s written tongue in cheek (although a bloke in a group chat I'm in still believed it too lol)

Why should we follow Italy, we were never as bad as they had it, we didn't flood the icu's, we've flattened the current, we are respecting social distancing rules (there'll always be a few exceptions).
There's more and more space in general hospitals each day and private hospitals are ready and waiting.
The reason the numbers are still high is nothing to do with the general public has done. Its the nursing homes and health care spread that are the issue now.
Some easing of restrictions must happen next week as we've done what was asked of us for the last 7 weeks and if it doesn't happen its because the government hasn't got its own house in order.

My daughter lives in Vancouver, she rang me last night .........,in the whole of British Columbia which is about the same size as Ireland and includes Vancouver they have has under 2000 Covid cases and 100 deaths.

Ireland has now over 18,500 cases and over 1000 deaths. We’re not a densely populated country . How did this happen ? While I’ve been following the figures, the comparison to BC really brought it home to me .

I’m guessing it’s because it’s rampant in nursing homes here (and my mother is in one).
Shame on the Government and Tony Holohan for this , they completely messed up here. They were transferring Covid patients from hospitals INTO nursing homes for respite!!! This has nothing to do with community spread and lockdown restrictions.

We'd be very stupid if we didn't look outward at other countries easing restrictions for a glimpse at what might be for us.

Regardless of the severity of their epidemic, it would still show us how the virus will react once business starts getting back to usual.

Learning is key here, don't be silly.

If there is no significant easing of restrictions next week I can see some real backlash against the government and the CMO.

They had gained a lot of support for their initial response but the last week to 10 days they have looked like bungling idiots with their handling of the care homes and a lack of any clear exit strategy.

A big week ahead for all

Absolutely, but the poster I quoted said we should wait a month after Italy, there are plenty of other countries we could model our response on.

I can tell you exactly how the virus will react once business reopens . It will spread and people will contract it.

Are people really expecting to lockdown until the virus disappears and once we come out of the lockdown everything is cool again .

People need to get real here. This virus is going nowhere. Even with a vaccine it will be here . We can either live in paralysis like thos for years to come or get on living .

Today's independent saying they might only change slightly but not an awful lot, goes on to say that sources say cases are too high in the community, which goes against everything that the CMO is saying daily, also worries over the HSE ability to do 100,000 tests a week. I'm sorry but that's not a proper reason to keep us all under restrictions, they've had weeks to prepare for this, again like you say I thought the initial response was excellent but now it's like faulty towers.
