When there are reports of a drop in real time ICU numbers you’d wonder will we see an increase in reported deaths in the coming days.

That graph is not really useful given the lags in testing and reporting.
You need the death numbers by day of occurrence to see a real trend.
The ICU numbers do help somewhat but I imagine the entry criteria for ICU are lower when there is so much capacity in the system and there are many dying outside ICU.

Absolutely a bit of craic, hope they raised a good bit.

Similar to the way people were arguing that the "German lab results" were irrelevant since they were delayed!

Dates do matter. If we ridded the country of covid 19 today and next month we started getting old lab results back from Germany or death notices from March. That data would not mean Covid 19 has returned.

Right, Question is...Why is there a choir ? is a choir essential ? They could have easily have played a soundtrack.

Yeah I never got that logic either. Some people didn't even want those results included, just because they were delayed... but they were still official results.

Some people will try almost anything to invalidate the stats that they don't personally like.

Can't see the restrictions being relaxed anytime soon. They will probably get extended until the end of May.

Peak was about 270 afaik which lines up with the ~50 ICU deaths

Exactly. So if ICU numbers drop there is 2/3 chance that that drop was due to recovery

One thing is for sure - pubs and restaurants will not open again in 2020.

I would agree. Very hard to see them opening this year tbh.

Eamon Ryan now doing a TV piece outside in the street. Totally unnecessary, he could do this at home. Why do rte continuously show people breaking he rules?

Donegal Sinn Fein representative in the studio. Any comment? Or just bashing a guy doing an interview outside his house.

Either way, the "WHO promotes Chinese agenda" is bunkum, to be kind about it. I don't think the WHO seeks to promote any nation's agenda. It wouldn't serve them any real purpose.

I do think that the WHO could have, with the benefit of hindsight obviously, have toned down their rhetoric a bit when it came to China. They spoke in almost reverent terms about it along the way:

"As I have said repeatedly since my return from Beijing, the Chinese government is to be congratulated for the extraordinary measures it has taken to contain the outbreak"

"The speed with which China detected the outbreak, isolated the virus, sequenced the genome and shared it with WHO and the world are very impressive, and beyond words. So is China’s commitment to transparency and to supporting other countries."

"In many ways, China is actually setting a new standard for outbreak response. It’s not an exaggeration."

They also stated on the same day that "The vast majority of cases outside China have a travel history to Wuhan, or contact with someone with a travel history to Wuhan." but concluded that, while declaring a public health emergency, "there is no reason for measures that unnecessarily interfere with international travel and trade. WHO doesn’t recommend limiting trade and movement."

    And then back to China:

"Let me be clear: this declaration is not a vote of no confidence in China. On the contrary, WHO continues to have confidence in China’s capacity to control the outbreak."

All well meaning at the time, but I do think they could have been a little less gushing in their praises.

Many of them will not open again ever. Rural pubs in particular were just about surviving. They won’t survive this.

I'm no longer convinced about that. I think they will find ways of easing restrictions that allow for some openings. Back to the reality that the virus is with us to stay, so the response may move to placing responsibilities onto those who are at risk/more vulnerable and the elderly about going to such places at the moment in advance of safe treatments being made available.

The strategy was always about flattening the curve to allow the health systems cope. If they start to cope, life may open up again, subject to reintroduction of restrictions if cases begin to overwhelm the system from time to time.

One thing for sure is nobody can say that for sure.
Theres a whole thread on this. Chances are they will open.

The virus isnt going anywhere so we cant keep everything closed indefinitely

A lot could open but whether they could open viably is a different matter. If they don't open then a lot will disappear. The relaxation on bank loans etc isn't going to last much longer.

So it is expected that Stockholm could have herd immunity in weeks. While it does not mean the end of the pandemic for that city; it certainly begs some questions as they continued to function with limited social distancing rules in place while their pubs and restaurants and most other businesses remained open.

We be paying interest on all that. That's the catch there.

There is no confirmation yet that having had COVID-19 confers immunity.

Why cant restaurants open again if they change to allow social distancing?

The economy has to be balanced with the Virus, there will be no restaurants left if they stay closed til 2021. Rates, rent etc have to be covered, a rent or mortgage holiday until 2021 is not something we can afford at the end of the day.

I see a future with social distancing, and periodic closing down as the R0 gets too high again due to relaxing the rules.

I wouldn't be surprised to see some restaurants open in the next 2 weeks.

The whole pricing model will need to change.

Aye I wouldn't be surprised if they had to close down again at some point in the future too.

Aye if they can only use half the space they need to charge twice the price, this is problematic.
