    They shouldn’t have to.
People should just cop on and stop being selfish.
Stay at home and stop the virus spreading and we’ll be out of this before long.

But a lot of ppl are stupid and selfish (in my experience) so unfortunately the guards /army do need to come out. This is a Pandemic so this should be a priority. No point in the government asking /requesting us not to break restrictions, we can see people are breaking the rules and it is very unfair on the people playing by the rules and making huge sacrifices......

My local Dunnes today who have been absolutely fantastic the last few weeks had a noticeable slip in standards. Apart from making us all line up outside, everything else that had been in place in recent weeks had all fallen by the wayside. What is the point of making everyone line up like cattle when as soon as we’re inside, everyone is on top of one another? It’s just pure optics at this point. They actually changed the entrance to the opposite end of the shop for now, meaning once you got in, you entered where the alcohol aisle is and had to traipse across the shop to get to what usually would be the entrance, meaning you’re bumping into everyone doing their shopping and there was just a big surge of people in the middle. A total farce.

Then three staff members were standing outside chatting having a fag right beside where people were queuing. I saw loads more staff in store standing around chatting and when I got to the till the one serving me was turning around chatting to the lady behind her the whole time. I didn’t see anyone wearing any gloves and they didn’t offer to wipe down your trolly either like recent weeks. I get that I’m sounding like a right moany arse but then they’ve this automated apocalyptic voice recording playing through the speakers while you try and grab your bits, urging people to basically hurry the fcuk up and get in and out as quickly as you can. But that makes no sense when the staff are faffing around and no one in there seems to be taking this seriously anymore.

I know this is just one anecdote from one shop but from what I’m hearing, a lot of people seem to becoming complacent and not taking this seriously anymore. I don’t think anything is going to be lifted by the 5th. The same fear just isn’t there for a lot of people.

I was in a Dunnes in Cork lastnight and would agree with most of what you said. The bit that annoyed me most was that thete were groups of staff inside chatting and they werent distancing

I think it is scare mongering seeing as there are more signs than not that there is at least some form of immunity provided after infection, such as the plasma injections helping infected people recover.

If there is thought to be no immunity, why would that plasma have any effect? Seeing as it is apparently/may be just plasma that has no memory of how to fight off the virus

Sure, there may be 'some form of immunity' in the short term. What about a year or two down the line ?

Because plasma in this case is used as a "medication" during the acute phase. Think of it as an anti-venom. An anti-venom doesn't protect you against future snake bites.

Recently, scientists have discovered a promising new type of UVC which is less dangerous to handle, and still lethal to viruses and bacteria. Far-UVC has a shorter wavelength than regular UVC, and so far, experiments with human skin cells in the lab have shown that it doesn’t damage their DNA .

On the other hand, bacteria and viruses don’t come off as well, because they are small enough for the light to reach. One study found that it could prevent mouse wounds from becoming infected with the superbug MRSA, while another found that it could kill flu viruses

Nevertheless, a concentrated form of UVC is now on the front line in the fight against Covid-19. In China, whole buses are being lit up by the ghostly blue light each night, while squat, UVC-emitting robots have been cleaning floors in hospitals. Banks have even been using the light to disinfect their money.

Guess Trump was on to something.

People have mentioned how the virus ruined what has been a great April weather wise. I for one have never got this much sun in Ireland since I was a kid. I sit outside in the garden with the laptop each day and do my work instead of being stuck in a office. I really have enjoyed my new home office. Hope the weather doesn't go too bad next week.

Its the first year in a long long time we had a proper spring. It wasn't wet and it wasn't too hot and it wasn't cold and it was just right.

But they should clarify that they meant that then. They didnt say permanent immunity specifically, from their post I take it theyre sceptpical for some reason that there will be any immunity at all. Even if people are immune for a few months or a year it will help a lot to slow the spread of the pandemic
What's not clear? Or did you just read some twitter summary?
There is currently no evidence that people who have recovered from Covid-19 and have antibodies are protected from a second infection...
Most studies carried out so far showed that people who had recovered from infection had antibodies in their blood - but some of these people had very low levels of antibodies.
This suggested that another part of the body's immune response - T-cells, which eliminate infected cells - may also be "critical" for recovery.
As of Friday no study had evaluated whether the presence of antibodies to the virus conferred immunity to subsequent infection by the virus in humans....
At this point in the pandemic, there is not enough evidence about the effectiveness of antibody-mediated immunity to guarantee the accuracy of an 'immunity passport' or 'risk-free certificate'.

We need to get new cases per day below 100 for relaxation of restrictions. I've been told this by a source. My uncle works for the council in Baileborough.

    What were today's numbers?

Are Irish, British, European doctors seeing similar?

UV light (in fairness, I don't know what type) has been used to purify water, disinfect rooms and even sterilise surgical instruments for many many years. If I'm not mistaken, though, it can be a cause of blindness if people are subjected to it directly in the same way and for the length of time required for the light to have an effect.

What is the purpose of having White House News Conferences when the Lamestream Media asks nothing but hostile questions, & then refuses to report the truth or facts accurately. They get record ratings, & the American people get nothing but Fake News. Not worth the time & effort!

I take it this is a parody although it does read like something Trump would come out with.

Why are WHO saying this? Its almost verging on scare mongering

How is it so hard to prove somebody can or cannot become infected again? LIke surely in NEw York and places with millions of cases thered be an example or two where somebody became infected again, and given that hasnt appeared to occur would we not take it that there is immunity? Would there not be some people whod be happy to volunteer to become reinfected in order to prove immunity can occur?

And does the plasma injection from recovered patients which helps the recovery of currently infected patients not also prove that there is immunity?

There is immunity. We just don't know enough to know how long it lasts.

Regarding seeing if people become sick again. It's not that easy. It takes a few weeks to fully recover. Then you have to wait and see if anyone gets sick again. You also have to allow for a gap in between to ensure it's not just the same infection reactivating. You're talking months. The virus hasn't been around long enough.

Also deliberately exposing people is highly unethical even for willing volunteers. That would never even be considered as an option.

Clinical trials where people are getting paid to be guinea pigs aren't anything new, unfortunately.
