If you have fully recovered from the virus, then you cannot spread it, as it is no longer in your system.

You can still pick it up from a surface and without washing hands can spread it like that.

    Welcome to the police state.

    In fairness, not really.

If everyone had the same idea, the park bench would be full. If everyone had the same idea to walk Dun Laoghaire pier, it would be full, or Malahide beach, or Salthill Prom, or go to any park.

You have to ban everyone or no-one.

Of course yearly figures will give the full picture.

But without scaremongering we can safely say we have major growth in death rates.

Could you provide a source for your claim about Italy having flu pandemics causing 54,000 deaths a year?

I don't think so many countries would shut down globally if we were experiencing average flu mortality rates crammed into 3 months or so.

We are not discussing shut downs, we are discussing inaccurate death rates.

Death rates which are complete speculation.

I’ve posted the link below to the recent flu pandemics in Italy.

They have had stark warning for years now, and had time to prepare the health service in the way both Singapore and Toronto did.
This shouldn’t of been a shock to anyone

563 have died in 24 hours in the UK. This is shocking.

True figure is probably over 600.

She's not sick not a threat, she's fine.. or maybe she's a threat to your Lebensraum

Wanker attitude not to obey a simple bloody rule, don't go out. She may not look sick but she may be asymptomatic and shedding the bloody virus. How the hell can you say she is not sick unless she is tested

Indeed. But really only the start of it. I think they will hit the 1000 mark in a week or two and remain there for a while.

The death rate is usually around 1% so multiply that by 100 and you have 250,000 cases, with about half in London.

I wasn’t but the spoofer Neil Ferguson (who is advising the Uk) said as many as 2/3 were going to die anyway.

Similar in Italy, an incredibly low number of deaths this flu season is being credited with the high number of covid deaths.

Italy has had influenza pandemics in recent season accredited with 54000 extra deaths.

Death rates in Italy has hit as many as 62000 in the month of March in recent years, until the total death rates are published its speculation to suggest all deaths are over and above.
So, leaving more in the cohort of v.vulnerable this year to be taken out by COVID-19, conversely would it be that the 2020 potential cohort was much reduced by the 'flu deaths in previous years. It'll probably provide the basis for many a thesis in years to come.

'Similar in Italy, an incredibly low number of deaths this flu season is being credited with the high number of covid deaths.'

Is that coming from Italian sources in the Lombardy region, or from external observers commentary?

ITman88 please ignore, just read your subsequent post.

And they are only including those who died in hospitals - if you died in a different setting with Covid19 your not included in the numbers

The other problem as IDS Ireland said is the amount of time patients stay in ICU
    https://twitter.com/IDSIreland/status/1245303054649503746?s=20

Really shows the urgency of the need for a solution to mitigate symptoms (a successful antiviral drug etc) before a vaccine comes along in order to keep people out of ICU, or failing that making their stay there as short as possible.

What’s has the figure of 0.5% came from?

2350 divided by 600,000? 0.4%, and there are many deaths unaccounted for
Perhaps some of these poeple would have died anyway, and happened to have coronavirus, theres currently no strong proof of that as yet, its just a theory, but obviously plasuible one. We will have to wait and see what thenational mortality rate for the year turns out like. However, monthly mortality statistics in places like Lombardy would imply that coronavirus is causing massively inflated excess mortality, and would make the theory look unlikely.

How many people on here are wearing masks when shopping? I'm seeing more people wearing them about the place.

My understanding is they are effective in terms of shielding water droplets, and for helping to prevent spreading it if you do have it, but that's about it. And that you have to be careful when taking it off and putting it on.

Still not many from what I see.

People have already been told many times they won't help you stop getting it, but sure if people want to wear them and it might stop them infecting others, it's not a bad thing.

You're claiming the flu season was mild in Italy and linking it to excess Covid deaths. I have news for you there are countries with equally high death rates.

Of course lockdown is related to death rates, countries are locking down to slow death rates.

I presume given your username you're 31/32 and work in IT. Now you might have little contact with people over 70 and feel this doesn't effect you. But some of us are a little older and perhaps deal more with people in that demographic.

It may be the cabin fever (its definitely cabin fever) but I've come to appreciate the petty squabbles that break out on this thread every day. Today I can't decide on what my favourite from the following is:

    1. The difference between median and mean
    2. Whether or not the ICU numbers are cumulative
    3. Whether or not going to Belfast counts as going abroad.

What I particularly like is how heated these things get. I guess we're all crawling the walls but stuff like:

    "Is that mean or median?"

"Ya ****kin prick how can you not know?"

Makes me laugh, when only the other day it pissed me off to scroll through it

Strip these deaths out of the figures and suddenly this 'global-killer' begins to look a lot less worthy of the current hysteria being generated.

In future years, people may look back and question why the economy was flushed down the toilet over a virus that kills a small percentage of the very old, the very sick and the very fat.

The economic effects will probably kill way more people indirectly over the coming years.
