Pretty much all of modern medicine on viruses is based off building an immunity. HIV is a special case that caused a massive amount of damage for something that is relatively hard to spread (relative to things like Corona) etc. because it goes against what modern medicine deals with effectively (as well as stigma limiting the response)

The mutation rate remains to be established firmly, but so far it doesn't appear to be exceptional. The reason that, for example, influenza mutates fast is less to do with it being an RNA virus and more to do with its segmented "modular" genome that allows recombination when someone gets co-infection with two strains.

I'm open to correction, but my understanding is that coronavirus has a single RNA strand and cannot do this trick.

Coronavirus spreads very easily and has a nasty mortality rate, but there's no reason to assume the laws of immunity are going to break down for this otherwise unremarkable virus.

Who is downplaying it? The message is clear from every HSE briefing there are certain vulnerable groups. A 16 year old with no underlying condition certainly is not. This is serious as young people can pass the virus to other vulnerable predominantly elderly people.

I assume they are adopting the herd immunity plan, and thus assume number of cases are much higher .
By keeping society open they will reduce other social, economic and medical problems, medical staff can continue to put ther children to school/childcare whilst they work.
Be intersting to watch how this plays out.

Cultuer could be a factor I am only speculating about this: Make that work in a socity like Sweden with its culture of public wealth, somewhat collectivist and cohesive society, profiteering seen as shameful and any nordic person I even met struck me as being made for social distancing.

There are a few issues.

1. Is Johnny trained? Manual handling training, risk assessment training, COVID-19 training etc.

2. Is Johnny's car insured for business purposes?

3. Who is responsible for the maintenance of Johnny's car?

4. Tesco don't know about Johnny's driving history? Is he a safe driver? Has he a heap of penalty points etc.

5. Is Johnny's car/vehicle temperature controlled? Can't have cold-chain perishables sitting in the back of a car on a sunny day.

5. Does Johnny carry around his dog etc. in the same car he carries groceries?

Why did you go straight for Chelsea Manning instead of addressing the point? You have switched arguments on this entirely. Yes I am well aware of China and the US not liking each other and both have attempted to pin the blame on the other. The truth is the virus happened and both reacted badly to it.

Never mind that Li was made promise he would stop with such social media posts and the public (not the WHO) was left uninformed
