New York is absolutely being hammered. But the one good thing IMV of course is that Andrew Cuomo is playing a blinder here. I know he could be accused of milking a crisis, but he is on brief and says it as it is.

Pity he wasn't the Dem Candidate for Prez. But stranger things have happened.

On his briefs or he looks good in them?

All he has to do is stand there and talk, most of us could manage that

Yes it is supply and demand, so you’ve O Neills stitching ppe for the NHS. Zara are stitching for Spain’s health service, and here we’re literally on a wing and a prayer to secure PPE from the very country that brought us coronavirus.

Sssh... sush... none of that realism and truth!

The government are doing an awesome job, and we're all really happy that they're on top of everything! Didn't you know this? ;)

If we're gonna shoot for censorship of government performance - we could just go the whole hog and become communist. Then we could go full lockdown, and weld everyone into their apartments! :p

is there any information available on how many people globally die from flu or pulmonary related diseases annually

when i google this i get only corona stuff...

i am just trying to put this to some perspective

i did find that annually about 10 million people die from cancer for example

I'm sure Zara's ppe gear isn't coming from anywhere in the far East.

So far, our deaths have doubled approx every 4 days. in Italy is was very close to every 2 days. That is an ENORMOUS difference in growth speed.

It may well explode yet but we are doing VERY well.

Looking at deaths per 1M population, we are at 2.

    The US is at 3.
    The UK is at 6.
    Italy is at 136
    Spain is at 89.

So 0.0136 of Italy's population have died of coronavirus. Or 1 in 7352. Not ideal, but not decimating either.

This is worth reposting. The countries of Europe ranked by Lived Density, rather than Arithmetic Density as explained in this article: http://theconversation.com/think-your-country-is-crowded-these-maps-reveal-the-truth-about-population-density-across-europe-90345

Look at where we are on the list. Look at where the countries not faring so well are.

I had an idea, the whole PPE issue and purchasing it.

What if the likes of me wanted to donate towards purchasing ir to the cost of purchasing. In a way of giving.

Would people pay into a National GoFindMe where its used to purchase PPE

Remember Beasty used to do one at Xmas for kids hospitals etc

Would people here do similar....might be better than a round of applause

There is a factory in Limerick producing 2 million masks a week.

If we all get together and storm it they can't stop us all, right?

its crazy to think about china having such huge figures, that by tomorrow there'll be two other countries with more cases...and one with more cases and deaths.

Lads who do you think is paying for the current 300million order

No need for a go fund me

I know exactly whos paying, us, the taxpayer

    But

That money was for something else and we're going to pay it back numerous times eventually. There is no bottomless pit of money

My idea was an philantrical one whereby lets say a donation of PPE was given to X hospital on behalf of grateful Boardsies

I want to help, Im 'essential' staff in Public Service so my days are taken up working, young family etc so volunteering is difficult. But maybe I could donate... anyway just an idea

Well, it's definitely not a country. It's a dependency alright. In my life, I've never seen it listed like that before no matter what the stats or context.
