I think a lot of the positive action by the government. I think this stems from the fact that they effectively lost the last election.
They see it as an opportunity to win the next one / national security.
I obviously can't speak to the motive but fair play to them.

Look what's happening in UK and US. Keep business going, oh wait do shut down. Oh how long can this go on.

They are all under extreme pressure from their main financial backers to get things going at the soonest opportunity.
They are heeding the public health advice and gambling essentially that it will pay off when this blows over.

They didn't have my last vote but if we get through this better than most countries they will have my vote.

This isn't going away until there is a vaccine and the best we can hope for is to trickle people into the hospitals at a manageable rate until the vaccine is widely available, and the only way to ensure that is to stay locked up for a good while.

What if they can't make a vaccine? Prolonging lives that we never get to live. I kind of agree with you, but we can't just assume that a vaccine is the end-point.

    39 in ICU is worrying.

That number is creeping up everyday and Not many are taking notice just the main test number , at least ICU still have plenty of beds it would be great to see that move down slightly even for just a day

    No it’s not.

Yes people are dying which is awful
But I terms of cases out curve is, so far, looking quite good.

Under 20% again is what we want to see

Thats 39 from the start of this I think, might not be 39 now. Just like the number of cases doesn't reflect recovered yet

Even I'm not that cynical. I believe the Government are acting strictly in interests of public, they deserve benefit of the doubt.

What do you think happens when any product gets 700%-1000% increase in sales in a short time - the price just stays the same???

No, but retail margins are generally not dynamic and are Pretty much set. I’ve noticed a big decrease in the offers that all retailers have as they know how much more shopping is being done, but chemists have been gouging prices since the dawn of time, so it’s No surprise they are gouging on these items.

How many tests did they do? The fact it’s stayed fairly consistent the last few days may just reflect the current testing limit, right?

What is the story behind the recovery rate number. I cant believe that as few as 5 people have recovered of those positively diagnosed

I dont think so, pretty sure the ICU numbers are in real time.

Just asking again but is Spain a rolling update?

They've reported +454 deaths so far today which would significantly less than the previous two days but I have the noticed the numbers seem to be gradually increasing throughout the day.

It frightens me sometimes how easily impressed people are. 'If' we get through this better than other countries is a big if, and one of the reasons it's a big if is because our health system is absolutely decimated. It was barely coping in normal circumstances, and now we have a pandemic on our hands it's no wonder the government are being so emphatic about social distancing - they know the hospitals will collapse as soon as the graph reaches a certain point.

I respect that the government is doing certain things well at the moment, but please look at the wider picture before casting your vote, hopefully we will all get to do so again some time in the near future.

I wonder how long are current measures are sustainable both for Ireland and on a global scale. I could imagine 2 to 3 months but not much longer.
Universities for example will probably need to be functioning by next autumn to ensure continual flow of graduates. Without generating revenue the government will eventually run out of money.
I can imagine a situation where controls are relaxed gradually but our economic system is such that we will eventually need to generate wealth just to function.
