what is being done for the self employed wages wise?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,148 ✭✭✭amadangomor

Will DIY superstores be considered non essential?

If you spring a leak and need a length of pipe that's where I'd be going.

Especially the single women where the hell are they going to get a length of pipe now?

Surely public transport should be stopped? I live in Cork City and every bus that passes is completely empty. Pointless having them running.

Some people still have to get to work, and a quiet bus allows for distance between passengers (and driver).

I would really appreciate if somebody could please provide clarification on the following.

What income support can be claimed by someone who is not an EU citizen but has worked (part-time, as well as studying) and paid tax for the last 2/3 years and started a new job on 2 March? They lost their job (retail) almost immediately.

Why what was mentioned about people going out for walks or runs or exercise ?

That people should still give themselves fresh air and exercise. Walks, runs etc all fine but not in groups and keep distance

But you have just said you where not effected by the virus, You where let go before hand, People have been let go purely due to Corna (act of god) you have not been,

How is that hard to understand ?

No need to be obnoxious. I perfectly understand the circumstances. What you don't seem to get is I am now in the same situation as people who have lost their job due to the virus. It will be very hard to find work now.

What about workers who are providing essential services and need to get to work? If they don't have their own vehicle how are they supposed to manage?

Can't be a full shutdown, reduction of services maybe.

    Prime example below:

So I'm self isolating waiting for a test. Now my partner and kids have to self isolate also. So she won't be able to go to the shop etc?

Is this the case? Someone I live with is waiting on a test but I've been in work. I'm not showing any symptoms but still may be a issue

UK not fvcks given......How many machines do we have in the state?

Army moves in: Military seize testing machines from private laboratories for urgent coronavirus checks on NHS staff

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8146055/Army-seizes-testing-machines-ministers-race-carry-coronavirus-checks-NHS-staff.html

    I don't know.

I would take any story from the Daily Mail with a pinch of salt but from that story the word seize is a bit of a stretch. They're moving equipment from universites to labs.

Serious question, can this cause another war in the world?

the finger pointing at China after this crisis will be IMMENSE
i can't see any way around it.

Iran , an ally of China, is getting hit seriously hard by this , so even there I can see a fracture in their relationship.

Yes, I was in Petmania last week, the guy working there said they were told even in "full lockdown" they will remain open

FG have done a good job on this to be fair to them. Most people complaining are literally full time complainers, never happy with anything.

I took my dog out for a walk today and the village I'm from, which is very busy on the norm as a commuter town, was dead. No one around. It was great to see and by and large I think most people are taking this very seriously and doing what they have been told. Of course some people are acting stupid and doing silly stuff which can put people in danger but don't take a few bad apples and criticise the majority.

Also, probably best to avoid this thread quite extensively. I don't mean it offensively, and the mods are doing their best, but the hysterics and negativity is overwhelming. The last few days I've only logged on maybe once or twice a day and my mental health and general thoughts are much the better for it. I've also minimised my social network usage, listened to the radio less and only watched the main news programs to get the updates. Spend your time focusing on other hobbies, or take the time to learn something new... no good will come from reading thousands of words on this pandemic each day. :)

Yep. Thats why people who can go to the shops do so rather than online delivery. It's people like you need that service.

there is a group thats helping out on twitter

7840 volunteers now on the island of Ireland. Another 62 volunteers signed up today to help deliver food/meds to doorsteps of vulnerable/isolated/elderly people. TEXT 087 3658233 (7am-11pm) if you need help. #selfisolationhelp RT!

Luckily Regina brought self employed into the welfare bracket last year or I'd be screwed at the moment.

Are you the only one showing any symptoms?

No apart from 2 year old with the usual snotty nose he has for most of the winter so don't think it's Covid with him. I'm 3 weeks with symptoms so should be well past contagious phase.

I do t know? But you would think they would have had that list ready before that press conference so he could whizz thru it instead of causing confusion for everyone on what is essential / non essential shops

Its unfortunate circumstance but you can't expect them to give everyone on the dole more money,

For the people who were let go. If there company was to reopen later. Do they have to apply for there jobs again?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,384 ✭✭✭✭hotmail.com

Most of these shops are closed anyway so this shouldn't represent huge changes that we've already seen.

A couple of my local barbers were still opened today. I suppose they will have to comply.

Churches are not holding public masses with several days I understand.
It can still be a place of solace for some to go on their own though.

Don't see how that is crazy.

Because the priority is not providing solace, the priority is maintaining the health of the nations people. You’ll find yourself with a shït load of solace lying in a morgue...

It’s baffles me, I’d rather stay on my own and say a few prayers knowing I’m doing that extra little bit to keep myself and those in my community healthy.

Maybe, but on the plus side it will most likely be fought with sticks and stones.
