Some fantastic measures introduced today, and I'm no fan of Fine Gael.

I don't see why they would. Financially nothing much has changed for them.

Is it likely these measures will last longer than the 19th?

    Of which year?

    No.

Only those who have become unemployed due to this crisis.

RTE cut off the news conference WTF

But maybe they had to because another vacuous celeb has contracted the virus and they need to tell us all how they're doing...

Why should they? They haven't lost out on anything additional due to this.

All this lockdown talk and essential services is far too subjective....

Up until yesterday, Krispy fooking Cremes was an essential service....

Absolutely. Such a contrast to the US and UK leadership who care more about the economy than the people. I got a little emotional when Leo said our health was the most important thing.

Looks like this is the next thread stick to beat the gov with.

Some people won't be happy until we're all welded into our homes and the army patrolling the streets.

Give it a week or two if it happens/happened they would be moaning about it too.

A bit of needless confusion there on the visiting families issue, but at least horse racing is now stopped.

Overall good, but by next week we'll need an announcement on construction - permits for completing small household jobs, licenses for bigger projects of the sort mentioned - building medtech factory extensions or emergency testing or treatment areas. Nothing else - not fair to construction workings with irresponsible employers.

Yeah it's not a full lockdown at all.

Watched Leo's speech, sensible and balanced approach.

It's a tightening of restrictions and nothing that wasn't expected.
We wont be seeing the scenes in Glendalough or the beaches from last weekend repeated again. But that's not to say you cant go for a walk or a run, it's all in moderation, not in groups and keep your distance.

In essence its basically a lockdown in all but name, everything that's non essential is more or less shut down already.

Why would they? This isn’t the budget. They’re introducing measures for people who have recently been laid off due to the virus. Not giving free money for everyone in the audience
