INMO Trolley Watch figures for March 24th 2020

    https://www.inmo.ie/Trolley_Ward_Watch

Slight rise overnight... Irish hospitals 32 beds short today.

That is the really scary picture.
Ireland has had this patients on trolleys issue, for years and years.

The Gov should think about requisitining Hotels or even Ferries to convert them into Hospitals for the milder cases.
Italy has just refitted a ship with a very quick turnaround

Can I still order packages on amazon from England just get postman to leave near house and then spray them down should I be ok then

No of course you can't...what if the person packing the box has C19 and coughed into the box all over your item.

I think in your case, as you are so scared then simply don't buy anything from anywhere. What is so essential that you need to buy it now anyway?

Oh yes i think my mother is still following that.

I mean she is social distancing but walking away after 15 mins. I won't be able to stop her. :o Its best not to try.

So its not true then? You can stay at this distance for longer?
In a pandemic, the rule is 'assume everyone is positive for Covid-19'. With so many unknowns, coupled with the rate of infection that seems to be happening, but trying not to sound alarmist, there's no way i would even give it 15 mins.

Why is it numbers went down three days in a row in Ireland from 196 to 191 to 126 to 102 then went up again? Was it different testing?

I wondered if it was because of the long Paddy's weekend resulting in less testing. Possibly?

Corona virus can survive on metal for 6 months!

(Are we just picking random numbers with no sources yeah?, cool)

Apart from chemists, supermarkets and petrol stations, what else would be deemed essential to stay open?

Sorry if it has been asked but size of thread and that. Does anyone know when the first pandemic unemployment payment goes through? Thought it would have been today but can't find much info on it.

TBH i think they will put Ireland into lockdown from social pressure. I wish there was as much pressure on them for testing.

No need. They're putting all the pressure they can on themselves to increase testing. It just can't be done overnight and I imagine the blockage will be the ability to process the tests once taken.

Good answer , top marks , instead of the trump bashing!

That toxic moron Trump deserves every bit of 'bashing' he gets, and a lot more besides.

He is presiding over what will be one of the worst public health disasters in modern times... thanks to his lies, misinformation, negligence and the unending septic slop of his daily tweets.

Yes there is quite a bit of confirmed evidence now that make the guidelines not as effective as they might seem.

Apart from chemists, supermarkets and petrol stations, what else would be deemed essential to stay open?

Pharmaceutical factories. Was told last night we will be staying open even if lockdown or even if colleges test positive.

I’d say pet shops and people that work with animals in vets. Maybe banks etc

Do you have a source or report link to justify this claim?

I don't know anything about the one month claim but this relates to the Diamond Princess:
    • "The coronavirus can survive on surfaces for up to 17 days, a study published Monday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says.
    • The study examines two public health responses to COVID-19 outbreaks on the Carnival-owned Diamond Princess ship in Japan and the Grand Princess ship in California.
    • The virus “was identified on a variety of surfaces in cabins of both symptomatic and asymptomatic infected passengers up to 17 days after cabins were vacated...” the researchers wrote."

One tiny positive from all of this.
A very old neighbour who was in hospital after a fall has been transferred to a local nursing home to free up beds.
Her transfer had been on hold while one side or the other were sorting out the fair deal scheme.
She was in hospital for 13 months and was ready for transfer 10 months ago.

Sports Direct in the UK claiming they are an essential business and stores will remain open is fairly sickening. Hopefully people remember that when this is all over. Greedy

this has been discussed before and is well known, google it if you must!

Can't find what you were talking about, but I did find out that the earth is flat and run by lizard people.

Telling someone to use Google is not referencing! Stop spreading nonsense.

Sickening but they're a massive employer so lets hope they don't go under either. People still need to live when this is over

No they're not. That's the kind of cretinous statement that causes panic buying.

I done our weekly shop on sunday and got everything we wanted (€110 worth of goods) no buying multiple items or unnecessary items. There were no empty shelves.

News headline is a bit sensationalist. From the source document, RNA was identified. This doesn't confirm the virus was intact:
"SARS-CoV-2 RNA was identified on a variety of
surfaces in cabins of both symptomatic and asymptomatic
infected passengers up to 17 days after cabins were vacated
on the Diamond Princess but before disinfection procedures
had been conducted (Takuya Yamagishi, National Institute of
Infectious Diseases, personal communication, 2020). "

In itself it does not show whether it can or cannot infect you. It does show a need for caution in the meantime.

"The virus “was identified on a variety of surfaces in cabins of both symptomatic and asymptomatic infected passengers up to 17 days after cabins were vacated on the Diamond Princess but before disinfection procedures had been conducted,” the researchers wrote, adding that the finding doesn’t necessarily mean the virus spread by surface."

No theyre not. Even at 650,000 cases that's only 10%. You need over 60% to achieve herd immunity.
