Yes there is quite a bit of confirmed evidence now that make the guidelines not as effective as they might seem.

Apart from chemists, supermarkets and petrol stations, what else would be deemed essential to stay open?

Pharmaceutical factories. Was told last night we will be staying open even if lockdown or even if colleges test positive.

I’d say pet shops and people that work with animals in vets. Maybe banks etc

Do you have a source or report link to justify this claim?

I don't know anything about the one month claim but this relates to the Diamond Princess:
    • "The coronavirus can survive on surfaces for up to 17 days, a study published Monday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says.
    • The study examines two public health responses to COVID-19 outbreaks on the Carnival-owned Diamond Princess ship in Japan and the Grand Princess ship in California.
    • The virus “was identified on a variety of surfaces in cabins of both symptomatic and asymptomatic infected passengers up to 17 days after cabins were vacated...” the researchers wrote."

One tiny positive from all of this.
A very old neighbour who was in hospital after a fall has been transferred to a local nursing home to free up beds.
Her transfer had been on hold while one side or the other were sorting out the fair deal scheme.
She was in hospital for 13 months and was ready for transfer 10 months ago.

That doesn’t mean it can still infect you.

Sports Direct in the UK claiming they are an essential business and stores will remain open is fairly sickening. Hopefully people remember that when this is all over. Greedy

this has been discussed before and is well known, google it if you must!

Can't find what you were talking about, but I did find out that the earth is flat and run by lizard people.

Telling someone to use Google is not referencing! Stop spreading nonsense.

No of course you can't...what if the person packing the box has C19 and coughed into the box all over your item.

I think in your case, as you are so scared then simply don't buy anything from anywhere. What is so essential that you need to buy it now anyway?
Appearently toys are. Cannot believe the amountbof online orders for stuff at the moment. Cantvundrrstand where all the money is coming from either.

It's as bad if not worse then xmas

Sickening but they're a massive employer so lets hope they don't go under either. People still need to live when this is over

No they're not. That's the kind of cretinous statement that causes panic buying.

I done our weekly shop on sunday and got everything we wanted (€110 worth of goods) no buying multiple items or unnecessary items. There were no empty shelves.

News headline is a bit sensationalist. From the source document, RNA was identified. This doesn't confirm the virus was intact:
"SARS-CoV-2 RNA was identified on a variety of
surfaces in cabins of both symptomatic and asymptomatic
infected passengers up to 17 days after cabins were vacated
on the Diamond Princess but before disinfection procedures
had been conducted (Takuya Yamagishi, National Institute of
Infectious Diseases, personal communication, 2020). "

That doesn’t mean it can still infect you.

In itself it does not show whether it can or cannot infect you. It does show a need for caution in the meantime.

"The virus “was identified on a variety of surfaces in cabins of both symptomatic and asymptomatic infected passengers up to 17 days after cabins were vacated on the Diamond Princess but before disinfection procedures had been conducted,” the researchers wrote, adding that the finding doesn’t necessarily mean the virus spread by surface."

No theyre not. Even at 650,000 cases that's only 10%. You need over 60% to achieve herd immunity.

    Butchers ?
    Fishmongers ?
    Fruit & Veg Store ?

Lads its non essential RETAIL stores that will close, not factories/other businesses. Which is what they did in the UK by the way.

Lets hope its 100 or 200 times what is known. This will be over faster than we think if that is the case.

How would it make much difference? Regardless of the death rate, it is crippling the healthcare infrastructure of some of the most developed nations in the world, it would imply that the mortality rate is not all that low. If it was 100 or 200 times lower than originally thought, then the more dangerous seasonal flu would cause more damage to the european healthcare infrastructure every year

I'm still in work and I work in none of those places.

ICT are incredibly slow in allowing me access to servers to work from home so I'm stuck here until they get their finger out.

Everyone else is on a rotation thing. 2 people come in one day, 2 others come in the next.

    It's quite idiotic

Pharma. Can't stop that or far more people will start to suffer and die with lack of medication.

No fücker is going to wake up this morning thinking “hey, I really need a new pair of air max !” It’s going to cost him more to open the shops probably...

    Paying staff
    Fûck all custom
    Light
    Heat
    Rent

If he has 5 staff per store even, from manager, security, sales/store people... averaging at 14 euros an hour, 40 hours work.. that’s a day 560 euros in staff costs and that’s a conservative outlook.
