It's very strange, I even looked up Belgium's health advice and its the same as ours.
The Belgians closed their border with the Netherlands today.
    Don't blame them.

Scum like that need to be taken to a field and shot in the back of the head. Do that once with a couple of them. Problem solved.

RTE have now changed their figure to 1,125, and I've reverted to that figure in the title now

I think RTE are confused half the time - sometimes its republic numbers, other times they use all of Irelands numbers

Just a mindless, consumerist sh#thole we've turned into

It's happening the world over at the moment, it's not just Irish idiots.

Father works in a management position at the CUH. Prefabs are being installed right now to cater for more ICU beds. Old buildings are currently being renovated to raise capacity. ICU bed numbers are going to increase significantly.
By more than 30% a day, hopefully?

Don't know whether that's true or not, but if it is, anybody caught at that should be summarily executed and their carcasses hung in a gibbet as a warning. I say that as someone who has elderly parents.

    Christ almighty!

Have you seen the Tommy Campbell video?
I know he's not universally liked but bloody hell those scumbags spitting on on old Lady

Did anybody see the news article about the Corona Challenge? They discussed how there is a new trend, whereby people cough in the face of the elderly. Please, oh please, tell me that this is a bit of sensationalist detritus, and that certain individuals in society have not stooped so low?

People really don't value their time do they. Why would you want to spend such a long time sitting in your car for something you could make at home in a few minutes.

Yeah, but think of it this way - those in the queue can post selfies on Facebook of tucking into their last Big Mac, possibly ever if they catch something from it....

Ramping up to 4,500 a day - that means it will take 8 or 9 days just to go through the backlog built up to yesterday. Those being put forward for testing today may be waiting another 10 days. Some could be recovered. Some may feel they have recovered only for it to have reduced to a non-noticeable level, cancel their test to then find it re-erupts in them

Still big question marks over the Irish data

Why is there a big question mark? They do so many tests a day and get results and report them.

They plan to ramp testing up to 15,000 a day soon and then the tests numbers will be more up todate and numbers will increase further.

Please god let today be the start of Italy seeing the numbers lowering

Too little too late. It has totally destroyed Italy. They ignored the warnings like UK and will pay a huge price for it. I really hope China pays heavily for this disaster so that they never again allow this to happen. They are to blame and like the Soviets with Chernobyl tried to cover it up. The world will change as a result of this.

I'm not an expert but how do then test for antibodies with drawing blood? The tests being administered here are with swabs. I think you're wrong.

Correct, the test here is testing for presence of the virus only, using PCR. It doesn’t test for antibodies

What are you on about ? Would you rather it was much more than 30%?
Theres nothing relased today that we didn't know.

With a stroke of a pen a legislator (the legislative body) could make this a criminal offense of attempted manslaughter, thus immediately halting such a vile practice in its tracks. It's not as if there is limited space on statute books. Just do it.

Would have to be somewhere in Asia.

New Zealand have announced a total lockdown and they have 102 cases. People are accepting it. We should have done something similar. No room for the gob****es to gob****e.

People in Asia queue up for the latest phone etc, not saying that they would if one was released now, but fairly sure we won't find out.

NZ are seeing panic buying since the announcement has been made despite being told that shops will remain open and plenty of stock.

I'm under the impression that the government may be repurposing it's own labs.
Testing is being ramped up to be carried out in clinical labs i.e. in hospitals.
Good question from one of the journalists there about the samples possibly expiring before they’re analysed.
The swab containers contain a gel like media to preserve the sample. The growth media keeps the virus alive until it is processed.

I have a horrible feeling this could be a 12 to 18 months job.Has anyone got that many "jobs" that they will last that long?

    I have :D

They announced yesterday they were moving to 4,500 a day. Previously they had said 15,000 a day.

However with a backlog of 40,000 and it actually takes a few days for results to come through the figures we are getting today possibly only reflects the position from 1 to 2 weeks ago

The UK have "ramped-up" to 10,000 a day

Pressing the pause button on life for a year, would be a small sacrifice to make to ensure that this thing be defeated.
Not feasible long-term as people would not tolerate it and the world economy would be absolute toast.

Will go for my evening stroll around the park in a short while.
Around my area, everyone seems to be taking the advice seriously, luckily. Only seen one or two out walking dogs, nightly, in the last week, instead of jogging groups and 5 a sides

Yesterday, there were a few more out walking. To be expected as it was a Sunday but, all just single individuals, walking their dogs or getting their exercise in.

Lucky in that sense that there is nothing like scenes we saw over the weekend in Howth and places like that

I have some stuff to do. Like I keep telling my wife, when I say I'll do it, I will. You don't need to keep reminding me every 6 months.

The Irish have had an international reputation of being good fun but a bit thick and by jaysus we have done everything we can to live up to that reputation over the last two weeks.
