Responding mainly because your post will get lost in this fast-moving thread. You are absolutely correct here. The number of positives is important but the figure which gets us closer to understanding how quickly this thing is spreading is:

(number of positive cases) / (number of tests carried out)

It gives us an estimate of what percentage of the population is infected.

For example, if yesterday we tested 1000 people and got 50 confirmed cases and today we tested 100 people and get 6 confirmed cases, you can see how misleading that would look of we only published the number of confirmed cases.

I do understand the difficulty of doing this and I know that lag affects the accuracy of this data but even getting the number of positive versus negative tests would give a much clearer picture of where we are.

I had a sinus infection last week and had to ring doc cause I knew I needed an antibiotic. He did phone consultation as they weren’t letting anyone in with respiratory symptoms and it cost €30 and left prescription with reception so I just had to drop in and pay and collect. Was happy with that as like you I didn’t want to have to sit in waiting room.

I saw my GP last week. They don't let anyone hang around the waiting room, they speak to you before you go in to confirm you don't have any symptoms, haven't had contact with a confirmed case, etc. Then they let you in and they maintain the two metre distance unless they have to examine you. The GP had a mask and gloves on. Nobody is allowed wait outside, you get a call once the previous patient as left.

It's going to happen soon I would guess, to try and maximise our ICU and staff capacity. As the WHO keep saying, test, test, test. Regardless of additional government measures, us punters have to do our bit.

Higher testing will give us the figures of unknown cases people are giving out about.the more tested and the cases cleared will give is a lower death rate.

As from the start we are following the WHO advice. Maybe the irish doctor in charge of the WHO is giving us advice.

It was updated to 906 by another mod around 2pm today, which would explain the 1,125 figure

Possibly the figures the HSE are putting out are net of recoveries

Dutch health department still says there's no health risk with children playing together with other children as they advise that children do not contract or transmit the virus. Find that strange as I don't think other countries advise that.

I'd a sinus infection, and was able to get an online video appointment the next morning. Rang last Friday, got a video call appointment for 10am next day.
They emailed the antibiotic prescription direct to my chemist.

Also, I think it's now medical protocol to refer all respiratory issues (any cough basically) for a Corona test. So I imagine the HSE will contact me at some stage for that.

There may be other online doctors you could see?

All press releases on the site seem to be the total - yesterday was 906
They don't seem to be deducting recoveries - hell they don't seem to even talk about them at all in the briefings

How many tests is our figures out of and have they confirmed this?

I mean completed tests that have been ran through and come through as positive or negative.

There’s not much point in saying out 15,000 taken if 8,000 of the 15,000 still need to be run in labs
