Now got an invite for testing at Tallaght Stadium tomorrow.

As I don't have a car, I'm wondering what the best way of traveling there would be. Walking distance is about 2 hours, cycling about 45 minutes.

Also the below tweets indicate the Tallaght facility is similar to Croke Park - a 'drive through' for cars.

    https://twitter.com/Pamela_Laird/status/1241357033582010370

Anyone any ideas how to handle this without a car? I called HSE and they said I need to get one of my friends to do the driving.

There would be thousands of people without cars in the country, so I think there will be many more people in the same situation.

When will it sink in that the current 'Confirmed Cases' number is MEANINGLESS, unless and until, it is the based on the number test of results completed.

Not while it's based on tests carried out but awaiting processing, not while we have 40,000+waiting to be tested.

The numbers will continue to vary widely until that point is reached. Not even tentative inferences can start to be drawn 'till then

Why is that proving so difficult for some people posting here to understand?

    Claire Byrne, Dr. Ciara Kelly

You're saying Claire Byrne was tested outside normal protocol? You'd better be able to back that slur, as she stated last week that she was self isolating, awaiting a test and only got results today. Her tests, on showing symptoms, and results have taken as long as everybody else.

how many actual recoveries so far from 1200 would be more interesting statistics to follow, given almost a month in surely we dont have 1200 active as good half would be in remission to recovered stage by now. since as stated its very unclear in each case when it was contracted and given that some can test positive days after it passes it skews entire count, to just keep adding cases if theres no monitoring in place to say how many get out each day.

Said in the press conference they'll have more detailed reporting including this in 24/48 hours

I'm updating the thread title to 1,012 - that's the figure reported in the press conference and is what is being put up on the likes of RTE

I think if you are in hospital then you have to get 2 negative tests in a row to be discharged.

If your at home, i assume you just feel better after 14 days etc your assumed to be over it?

Like if we have x number of testing kits, we are hardly using the muliple times on the same people are we?

You'll need more than "they seemed to". I'm not saying they didn't but if you're going to raise a theory at least have something tangible to back it up.

McDonald's is bound to be riddled with the Coronavirus, why on earth would you go there when there's been so many people there recently let alone now when it is jammed. Thick as mince the lot of them, hope they enjoy their box of nuggets with Covid sauce.

We are our own making of this spread of disease. We have no one to blame but ourselves when people arent listening to the medical advice we have been given.

Given that the numbers are on a lag of 2/3 days, really irrelevent if out by a few.

Would really help to put it in context if we could also see how many have recovered and also to show how many have been tested. Taking these figures at face value and it would appear to necessarily follow that the problem is getting worse.

Updated for you, total cases figure now rules out deaths and recoveries:

Junior Cert is just a practice round , they can move on without the exam...

I think that they'll find a solution for Leaving Certs and as for College - They'll just use the typical "repeats" window in September to close out the year.

Will some people do worse in exams leading to repeats etc.? Almost certainly , but I really don't see any scenario where there is a blanket "hold-back" of people moving ahead in Education from this..

In terms of the league we will pass Japan tomorrow.

Japan is another country in denial. Completely preoccupied with keeping the Olympics show on the road in the face of the pandemic. Wouldn't surprise me in the least if suppression of cases was happening there.

I agree but there are numbers released by the HSE, better to use the correct ones.

6 is obviously 6 too many but the mortality so far is far less than the 3 or 4% elsewhere (or worse in Italy).
Because this is just really starting and we have not yet filled the ICUs. When that happens, and it will, the death rate will increase significantly, because it will not be possible to treat everyone.

So you can be asymptomatic but can you also have it and not present with fever for example or indeed all of the symptoms? Is the full menu of symptoms just the usual case.

40,000 waiting, some from 16th of March, I just wonder how Ciara and Claire got tested and resulted faster than others, Ciara has asthma so probably priority at risk

What’s the point in ramping up testing without the means to process the tests.

Delayed results help keep numbers down.

What’s the point in ramping up testing without the means to process the tests.

That's being ramped up as well, 2000 per day now, 4000 per day soon and will e up to 15000 a day soon.

Can people not realise that these are huge numbers and it takes time to increase capicity.

RTE just said in a normal flu season there would be a total of 15,000 tests done so that gives you an idea of the increase in operations required.
