Why did you think children aren't immune? Thankfully under 10s are the demographic which it isn't making very sick, but they're not immune. They're getting it, just in mild doses.

For what it's worth, I found Trump's press briefing the other day hilarious. He was on such a wind up with the press.

"I think you're sitting too close, maybe you should move. Actually I think you two should leave immediately"

    :D

How is he different in this than any other leader?

Do you think Leo do not polarise opinion? Merkel? Putin? Boris? Obama? You?
You cant please everyone mainly if you are in leading position.
This Trump obsession is getting really tiresome.

Trying to compare Trump to any other leader you just named there is mind boggling.

is the coming week the critical week for Ireland?? will we get a more accurate projection of the curve by friday?

Yes indeed, we should have a strong indication of what the 'curve' looks like in the next seven days

Only backed up by my gut feeling of where we are compared to other counties, but yes I think the end of next week might be when our hospitals start being overwhelmed and the death count starts to become depressing.

Earlier this week 12000 tests had been mentioned - but did we have the results from all 12000 tests the day the figures were announced?

I know for a fact that it's taking up to 4/5 days for results to come back in some cases.

So when the total case number was ~600 from 12000 tests was that actually ~600 from a much smaller amount of those 12000 that had results back?

    About 2-3 weeks.

Less than 2 weeks behind Spain. They broke the 1,000 confirmed cases barrier on March 11th IIRC.

Some people just love to get a dig in, don’t they?

Harris has been working every hour of every day for the last couple of weeks to try to get the message across to people.

But sure he ‘smirked’ on the news. Apparently. He’s no Putin
Bet he didn't smirk at all.

We are way behind on testing and just as bad in turning around the results.

There will be no curve. Just a near vertical line

Trump has wandered off about him running for President. Weird

If the US President and Vice President both die or become incapacitated as far as I know the Speaker of the House of Representatives takes over Presidential duties. Is this correct? I remember back in 1981 after Ronald Reagan was shot and was believed to be near death and George Bush, the VP at the time, was out of contact for some reason that this scenario came up.

Anyone else terrified of going to work? I'm working in a large multinational on the factory floor and every precaution they've put in place has been for people working in the offices and day shift. Us shift workers on nights are seeing little flexibility on the floor. A lot of us have the ability to work from home, and have demonstrated it, but my boss won't allow it until it's rolled down to him from his boss... the bureaucracy in here is going to get us all infected, and then I seem like the crazy one for pulling my hair out when people are still coughing into hands and pawing at the cups in the canteen...

Yes but there are quite a lot of differences. Spain is much bigger, they are holiday destination with much more traffic than our island. We may get it a bit delayed but make no mistake we will get there too :)

Based on what? There have only been four Covid deaths in Ireland in March....that is one stat that is unambiguous.

If its that contagious then nobody should be working or spending time with anyone indoors at all unless they are self isolating together. If a cyclists breath can spread it in the open air.

I dont know, but if the advice we are told about droplets being exhaled then they would still be in the air behind the cyclist. A following cyclist (2 or 3 m behind) will be breathing deeply. Do this for 10 km its seems logical to assume, its a risk.

I would say the best position for 2 cyclists at the moment is side by side, or just on their own.

How far roughly are we behind the likes of Spain and Italy?

Not really like for like. It's obvious now there was thousands maybe tens of thousands of asymptomatic infections in Italy just as the first confirmed cases were being reported.

If you want to compare dates
Italy had 889 confirmed infections and 21 deaths on February 28th

Spain had 674 confirmed cases and 17 deaths on March 8th

    Geopolitics back to normal already.

Israel and US raid Italy for medical supplies, Russia sends 100 front-line epidemic experts, China has already sent supplies and personnel.

China blames virus on US military lab in Texas in Sept., US blames virus on new lab opened in Wuhan.

So at least some things never change.

scientists have confirmed the virus could not have been man made because its u like any other virus, even sars 1 or mers , it could have been spread by a shady military at just the right time and place though to unleash it on the west

Fear is good. It will make you aware and careful. Not much else can be done. I work in much smaller place and already 2 people are in self quarantine waiting to be tested. While I am afraid as I do have "underlying medical issues" there is not much I can do but tobe careful.

Jeez some seem to love saying it could be like Italy or Spain here.

"Inevitable" was the word used earlier. This means guaranteed to happen. People shouldn't be saying these things.

Now I don't know (none of us do) and it's early days, but neither of those countries experienced four consecutive days of decreasing confirmed cases. One day here and there, yes, but not two or three or four.

I'm not saying this is guaranteed to continue, and we certainly have a long way to go to get out of the woods.

But if you think Ireland has the potential to be like Italy or Spain (human tragedy level) you should back up this opinion.
