I don't trust figures from anywhere, really. As for whether we are testing everybody, I for one wasn't tested when I came down with a severe cold a week ago, although I asked. Plenty of people on here said the same, the HSE until recently only tested people who had been in contact with risk groups, or came from abroad ( places considered a risk only), or were taken to hospital. Both Ireland and Britain have bumped up their testing recently, but it's still far from universal.

To do it properly, given the level of asymptomatic people out there. we all should be tested, and I am sure that will come.

I've been lurking here a while and I must say I am worried about Ireland, Germany and the US more than most other countries. The worldometer site sees no slowdown in the increase in these countries ( particularly visible in the log scale). Theres a ten fold increase every ten day or so, faster in Germany in fact.

The Italian and Spanish curve is beginning to flatten. The increases are still happening but the rate of the increase in slowing.

The UK is fairly open about not doing as much testing as is advised by the health bodies (I think this may be changing in the last few days) - that would be a more worrying point for me rather than just relying on case numbers. That and ICU/deaths.

People don't want to believe this, but banks create money all the time, when they issue loans.

Thank you so much. It goes against common sense but it's true. I do think this time is different because the effects of mass absenteeism/ lack of demand is a greater burden on system then giving everyone a bonus.

Does anyone know why this SARS-CoV-2 is so much more infectious than the SARS we had back in 2003?

If they are both related illnesses, I wonder why the massive difference with infection rates?

That one had around a 10% mortality rate, but infected far less people. And also seemed to fizzle out relatively quickly. (They still don't have a vaccine for that one either btw)

Not quite, things take time to plan, especially when travelling from across the world. Cousin of mine is currently en-route from Malaysia and will arrive into Dublin on Sunday, followed by two weeks of isolation at home in Cork.

SARS was only infectious once symptoms showed. Symptoms were very severe so anyone who got it was bedridden right after they started showing symptoms/became infectious

You could be right, and thanks for a reasonable reply to a reasonable post. I merely think that both countries were not testing enough, and are not testing enough, and we should follow the South Korea model if possible.

Not least because knowing who has had it will allow us to resume the economy, if we assume they are not vectors of disease when cured.

I think the more severe it is the less chance it has to spread due to quicker onset of more obvious symptoms. This one has many people spreading with no symptoms. I could be really wrong on that though!

They can only test people who request a test through their GPs. The Gp decides if a test should be requested.
The fact that they are scrambling to get more test kits suggests there is a backlog.

Asymptomatic people will not contact their GP as they have no symptoms.

What is needed is a cheap and fast test like the pregnancy tester. If you show positive on one of these you then get a proper onme done.

They are trying to develop something like this as it would be a game changer

It's actually strange you posted to an Italian (regional?) Paper rather than an English source.

I suspect you have misinterpreted something, I am sure without any intended malice but you were suggesting Ireland could print its own money a few pages back so I'll definitely not be taking your word for it.

There is no evidence I have seen that Italy has made firings during illegal (how could you if the company goes bust?) or is forcing companies to pay 80% of workers wages (how could bust companies do this?).

These are no small things, the whole world is watching Italy and it seems very hard to believe that they haven't been reporting on it.

7 who tested positive had zero symptoms in this cae. A study from the North of Italy in a town that tested everyone said that of the people who tested positive 9 out of 10 had absolutely no symptoms. It is a really strange outcome.

The SARS virus is still active in the middle East. A handful of cases pop up every year.

I think all eyes should be on China. If they start to log more and more cases again then we are all in serious poo poo. Our biggest weapon against the virus is total lockdown and social distancing. They completely locked down parts of the country. Millions of people.
If the virus makes a large scale reappearence expect global panic.
