Unbelievable that they will pay 80 percent of all wages for those not working.
How long could they do it for?
I can see massive abuse of this coming.

    Who, what?

We really need to see some let up soon otherwise it would appear even a full lockdown is having little or no impact.

Could be 1 to 2 weeks before they start to fall.

My heart breaks for Italy. Is their lockdown not working? We need to look at Italy and people cop the fcuk on here and stay away from each other. But large groups still out, parents bringing children to shops. I don't think people are getting the message here.

Why does Boris always write down gibberish as he is asked questions.

He has the face of a liar and totaaky clueless at the wheel.

This is not going to do go down well for a large % of the population who voted for Boris in the last election.

What? A financial bailout for everyone? Of course it will go down well.

The problem is, and to be fair I don't think anyone is thinking too far into the future now, but I suspect we are headed for a period of austerity that will make the first five years of the 2010s look like a free for all.

But what else can governments do?

Takes about 14 days lockdown to see any effects. What are they at now?

deaths possible seriously hope im wrong.

We need a lockdown now. People who wont stay indoors need to fined or forced into isolation physically. This is too serious now.

Hard not be angry at people who only care about themselves/
Going to cause so much pain for people who will lose family members,
Suicide will go through way up too most likely
There won't be a review until the end of the month. If they deem it's necessary we'll get it. As others have said the headline numbers of new cases don't matter if testing has been ramped up. It's the number who end up in the health system.

Breakdown of Italian numbers by region. Still very much centred in Lombardia.

Think people really need to pay attention to this. Huge numbers in the north

BBC news have a runner on the screen bottom which states "death rate in Iran is 1 person per ten minutes! WTF:eek:

And yet Leo didn't mention them when he offered solidarity to those worst affected. I thought his speech was excellent but that was a huge oversight.

Holland is worse, crazy death figures for such a small and affluent country, normally to the forefront in adapting to challenges. Mad about skiing though so probably thronged the north of Italy last month

The Netherlands (together with Germany) have been one the main gateways to the virus from China - thanks to Schipol airport.

    See for NL

An additional 40 deaths in the UK according to worldometer.

That is horrific for Italy my heart really is breaking. Really thought we would see a reduction in numbers by now. Recoveries seem to have jumped a bit though some good news

And they'll continue to go up slowly. Takes a while for the recoveries to climb

Nothing seems to be working in Italy.
Aside from the obvious, their economy is going to be in ruins for a very long time

Do people think trump is wrong to call it the China Virus ?
I can't see why he is getting stick for it , that's where it came from and they actively tried to blame it on American soldiers and they actively tried to hide it form the world for a month,

I can't for the life of me see why people are annoyed at Trump for taking a stand against China ,Sars also came from China about time someone started calling them out if they continue the way the have been what's next ? something worse than this could wipe out everybody ,

We don't call the pandemic that swept through the world between 1918 and 1920, killing an estimated 50 - 100 million people, the American virus. Academically it is referred to as the 1918 influenza pandemic.

Trump is engaging in low brow xenophobic rabble rousing in his insistence in how he repeatedly refers to the current pandemic. Maybe “severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2)” is beyond his feble intellect.

He's a dangerous idiot. Someone should ask him if he thinks SARS-CoV-2 will be a bigger problem than the 1918 American virus that killed 50 - 100 million people worldwide.

They'll be the prime recipient of funds from the big bad EU via the ECB.

The lock-down is probably too recent to be bearing fruit yet. It takes a few days for symptoms to emerge, a number of more days for a person to be tested and a result published, and more days still for the person to die or recover.

However the Chinese Red Cross were apparently pretty appalled by the quality of the lock-down, saying that they could see people socializing, public transport running, people out and about.

    Day 11, I think.

This is exactly why we need a lockdown now. Before things get worse. What are they waiting for? I know it won't be easy with the economic effect but we can't handle 5000 cases a day

You have to give everything time. The Italians wont see any benefit of lockdown for at least 2 weeks from when it started

Worldometers says 15k new cases in Italy, almost certain it said 6k a few minutes ago, what's the story with this?
