What "Brit bashing". Their approach has been roundly condemned by the WHO and many experts. There's all sorts of confusion for example, the HSE is saying to self-isolate for 14 days, the UK is saying 7.

There are messages in the UK media that it's 'business as usual' all the time coming from news programmes and so on, while we're approaching serious restrictions here.

All of that is extremely confusing. It's very reasonable to critique that. It's utter hyperbole to call it "brit bashing".

Also "the Brits" ≠ "the Tories". That's rather simplistic and unfair.

Many, many Brits are raising serious concerns about what's happening or rather not happening there, particularly the fact schools are open.

The governor of my state just went on tv to announce school closures and social distancing measures and he was working hard not to break down. Like on the verge of tears the whole time. I mean, wtf? what arent they telling us if veteran politicians cant control their emotions over this!

Many many people will die and the health service will be overwhelmed causing many deaths that were otherwise avoidable. Seems like a good enough reason to me.

    Yeah old news

Army revealed the plan for Tomorrow.

What has happened is that Defence Forces members have been told to report to barracks on Monday and to be on standby to support civil authorities. They are under status yellow conditions.

Yeah but the gear you wear in a cleanroom is very different than the "punter going around with a mask but otherwise normal clothes". And a lot of medical staff are going to just have masks and gloves and their normal scrubs---- we simply don't have enough full protective gear for everyone.

When you don't have the full romper suit on also but just the mask you cannot afford the lack of fit around the neck which a beard causes. Especially when you're in an environment with high viral loads in the air ( anywhere front line medical staff treating COVID-19 sufferers will be ). Even a few percentage point drop in efficiency will result in loads of staff going down and major issues for staffing of wards. To paraphrase the great Ron Swanson.... This is no time to half ass anything, we need to full ass it. ;-)

Plus, you know, it was just meant to be a humorous comment to lighten the mood ;-). I wasn't trying to make the most insightful post in history, just poke a little fun at hipsters. Mea maxima culpa ;-)

Was your mam trying to wind you up?

I was under the impression all weekend masses were cancelled.

In my area all weekend masses were cancelled but they extended the ban.

Are you not aware of the new organised underground masses? I suppose you need to know the right people.

The Australian stock market is down 5% so far. Don't think the Fed handing out cheap money is going to do the trick.

You need to use the "internet" to check what they are being used for

What's the big deal about the army supporting civil authorities? That's quite normal in a crisis situation and does not mean anything other than the army is supplying potentially logistical support.

    Some bonkers rumours flying around.

    Quit the Brit bashing...

We are in uncharted waters here.

The Brits have their own way of handling things, maybe six months down the line they will be proved right??

Can't keep on blaming the Brits for everything... Think Cheltenham here... I believe 15 thousand Irish made that pilgrimage, followed on by another 1750 that went to see the Liverpool match...

What about this weekend as the numbers racked up...

Every pub, restaurant, bar and tavern was jointed... Will we blame the Brits for that as well...???

A little bit of sense and personal responsibility here please.....

The world is fighting a major human virus here.... It's nothing to do with the black and tans

    Cop the f*ck on..................

Seems to be mainly in your head

Whatsapp is where it's all at for your news

(ignore the other reports in the news that they are being trained to assist in contact tracing etc - doesn't sound as scary)

When people claim the army not doing anything to help I do. Only a few hours ago people said I was wrong about my ex army friend being recalled to help.

I had no information about a lockdown. I knew he was recalled to duty starting at 6am in the morning and posted the info.

For everyone else wait for official announcement

There is no official announcement - this has been in the news for days that they are training up to assist the HSE etc

I know it's not representative as the case fatality rate or anything like that, particularly while the virus is still spreading exponentially and testing can't keep up with identifying cases, but seeing the number of deaths as a percentage of closed cases creep up over the last couple of days is unsettling.
