It's coming but maybe not Tuesday, I know through work the HSE are working on getting areas setup to take patients who contract the virus but this won't be completed by Tuesday so can't see it happening until later in the week, maybe Thursday/Friday

I heard cork is on shutdown from tomorrow...

We get products in, we process and pack them, lorries collect our products and transport them to supermarket depots.
Next day it’s on the shelf.

    As in vegetables, meat etc?

Seems incredible that a few days ago Leo was delivering a Bowl of Shamrock across the Atlantic, and telling everyone St Patrick's Day is so on.

Patrick's Day parades were cancelled on Monday 9th March, Varadkar gave shamrock to Trump on Thursday 12th

Likewise here, and i'm wondering how long can it continue. My job can pretty much be done 100% remote if required, I don't need a physical office, but at some point...we need to go back, right!?

There are certain roles in my company which are crucial for business continuity and they cannot work from home, so it's a little scary to think what happens in X number of months if those staff aren't able to do their roles.

Yup at some point we need to go back. Dont think I'll ever do five days a week in the office again though

As to your second point ironically the people need to enable the business critical people who need to be in are all wfh

We've a presence in about 80 countries so it's been insane

I’ve heard bigger lockdown will be announced at 11 tomorrow. Fairly reliable source so I for one am ready.

For any Cork langers I was around the Lough just now. Dry, mild night the place would normally be teeming with joggers, dog walkers etc. Not a sinner around. 2 buses passed. Empty. Great that people are being sensible.

The end of the month? Hopefully not. Surely it makes more sense to do it sooner rather than later.
The argument is that a full lockdown can't effectively be maintained for more than about 4 weeks as people will begin to stop respecting it. It's time may come at some point.

This thread is also not “immune” to scaremongering, hysteria and hyperbole.

In fairness, it’s not too bad this evening as some of the “experts” seemed to have slinked away.

Such an announcement might shock but this has already been enacted in several EU countries, Slovakia the latest today.

It would not be as severe as people may think. I don't think they would limit numbers, I think they would say grocery stores and pharmacies open with everything else shut.

Nothing to be afraid of in it even if enacted.

Well technically everything will be closed on Tuesday it's a bank holiday

No you don’t understand uk will put pressure on Irish resources because of Ireland’s superior strategy and rush the boarder with Ireland from NI. We must muster forces to protect Ireland.

Did your mother/granny never tell you to stay quiet if you have nothing good to say?

Or perhaps the saying "it's better to say nothing and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt".

Has anyone actually suggested that the UK will rush the border? Wtf does that even mean?

Everything you buy goes from starting components to assembly/manufacture to distribution to being available to buy

Its supply chain management which deals with that
    It is a fascinating industry

If you are being serious it's how milk goes from being in a cow to being in cartons in the supermarket and everything in between

Serious question. Do people wear masks while packing the food. Do you recommend washing the pack / contents before use?

    Thanks in advance.

Well you have to wash your hands with soap and use sanitizer before entering most food factories.
We’ve installed extra sanitizer around the place.
Sick people are sent home immediately.

We produce raw products for cooking, so it’s not an issue.

    What form of lockdown?
    Restaurants will be closed
I would have thought closing all shops bar grocery and chemist shops likely at some stage.
Realistically what else are they going to do?

This pandemic is actually pushing a lot of wheels into motion that would not have otherwise happened.

It's terrifying and it's scary but have no doubt that there will be some positive changes that emerge as a result.

We can't see it now while we are fighting this thing but I hope we come through this stronger and improved.

For my own sake I'm just trying to look on the bright side, it's like looking for a needle in a haystack at the moment but there will be good things that come out of all this.

yeah i agree. farming changed a lot after the 2001 foot and mouth.

things won't return to the same normal after this...one of the new developments might be companies realizing that they can actually let a lot of employees work from home without detriment to their businesses...this would have knock on side effects of less traffic on roads, less crowded public transport...and attribute to over reduction in emissions on the island etc etc

The food industry standards are higher than hospital standards. I don’t worry about what’s in the packet, but the packet itself yes. I’ve taken to blasting plastic packaging and bottles with Milton. We are in the high risk group so I try to be super careful

This also goes back to who is involved in the supply chain and a question earlier about vets. Department of agriculture vets on farms and meat factories are essential too.

Myself and the OH having similar conversation... pensions and insurance related employees. Parts of our employers business are essential.
Hard to say what exact roles are essential or not...

We don't. If you need to self-isolate for weeks and are used to only being at home weekday evenings and weekends, you're gonna need a lot more than usual. Of many things.

    I see your point thanks.

Like our crowd in touching hands to Neil Diamond last night. Knacks are going to Knack.

It was in the 'Temple Bar' Bar singing Sweet Caroline.

Do you know any Irish people who go to the Temple Bar Bar and sing Sweet Caroline?

So think about it. If we manage to flatten the curve and have enough or more icu beds than needed, and if the uk continue with their current plans their health system will be totally overwhelmed ala Italy. Where do you think sick uk people will run to get treatment?

Given your anonymous on the board, perhaps you can divulge your reliable source. Otherwise you’re adding to the rumour mill problem, which is a mix of lies and truth
