Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Very surprised at this...there is an open AP competition ongoing at the moment. Why aren't they using that panel??

all panels must end....the last panel was launched in 2018 so I presume would be due to end later this year.

From 2018 thread it seems to be in place until October 2020.. unless I imagined reading that!

Is the current Dublin panel exhausted?

Best of luck to everyone applying.

There will a large amount of retirements across the civil service after the pay increase in October, so my guess is they are trying to get ahead of the curve and have people ready to go ahead of the mass exodus.

Any thoughts on what counties to apply for, outside of Dublin.
I guess the cities have the biggest offices?

Any opinions/info on recruitment in mayo? I’ve heard they’re always looking for heos, but never hear anything about APs.

Look at the counties that have the biggest offices for e.g Kerry for payroll shared services, limerick has biggest revenue outside Dublin, or with a few different civil services offices close to you as the larger the number the larger the chance. You can always put your preferential county down as number 1 with another for backup where there are a lot of civil servants, cause as well as retirements there could be career breaks or vacancies due to promotions. The higher the level the less that are taken off the panels unfortunately.

Just read through the booklet there and see that stage 2 is an online interview, have they used these for AP before? I know they did for 1st sec but haven't heard of it in the open main comp before?

I think they did online interviews for the lost recent AO.
Does the booklet say they are definitely doing that or is it just one of the selection options?

That's not what it says. It says:

    Selection Process
The Assistant Principal selection process for this competition will comprise a number of elements. These may include one or more of the following...

Online interviews were used for the recent AO comp for specialised streams.

Not sure if they'll necessarily utilise the online interview, but they seem to be listing all possible elements of the comp to cover themselves. Could depend on how many numbers of applicants they're dealing with. Maybe it'll come in handy if we're all on self-isolation with covid-19 :pac:

It *is* what it says. Pages 12 and 13 of the booklet clearly state that Stage 1 of the process is the Online Assessment and Stage 2 is an Online Video Interview.

    Well colour me corrected!

Online interviews were used for the AP in Revenue last year.
Sounds similar to what is described in this comp. They give you a list of questions to pre prepare and then you log in and record them on a system. In the Revenue comp it was 4 questions. This one says 3 questions.

They also used video interviews for PO so I think we can take it that it will be a standard for the moment

The application form seems a lot shorter than the 2018 one. Only 3 questions, a personal statement and any supplementary information.

A lot to try and pack into answering those 3 questions.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 172 ✭✭Forthebuzz

Maybe I missed it but the booklet doesn't say at which stage they will do shortlisting either does it? I know for the heo they stated it would be after stage 1 but this seems to indicate that it goes straight to online interview depending on OOM from online testing?

Definitely much shorter than 2018 one!

Did you not get a placement off the last panel after scoring so well Dee??

I read it again and from what I can see on pages 12 and 13 your right it looks like it goes straight to the online interviews based on the OOM from the online tests.

It doesn’t really mention shortlisting but I’m guessing it will happen after the online interviews.

The online interviews were used for the recent PO too weren't they? Does anyone know anyone who had experience of them? Must check through the PO thread.

I know someone who had experience of them, questions provided a few days beforehand,3 minutes per answer. Someone from Pas was watching them as they did it live to ensure no technical errors etc

I think that was the online tests? the first stage, they now use remote monitoring to make sure you are not cheating. all a bit bizarre

having to show nothing in the room, or even in your ear:pac:

the video questions you just record yourself and upload I think

Is this new competition panel only going to commence from Jan 2021 when the old panel is finished or could it be sooner? Doing some research from the last comp thread to predict future possible dates (very difficult to draw definite conclusions on, but would make an interesting study!!) as I spend a lot of time working abroad.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,812 ✭✭✭Addle

I don’t think I have the technology to partake in this competition.

Long story - got offer but turned it down due to changes in my current role. Still on panel for 2nd county but there have been zero vacancies there since this panel commenced.

It's such a long drawn out process that a lot can change personally or professionally between applying and getting an offer, and you may be in a bit of a predicament as to what is best to do!

Anyway, here we go again... :)

I've just checked the link I posted on the 1st post in this thread and it works. If you click the information booklet it will open in another window.

When you go to upload there is a second form and there is a box to tick open or interdepartmental. Same application form

They removed it temporarily to make some changes to it. As you linked above, it's back up now.

Both, if you have two years in civil service and meet the requirements of both competitions. Same form for downloaded pdf, you only upload it once but you tick both comps on online second part of form.

Deadline to apply has been extended to 16 April.
