The government have everyone using an App with their health status colour coded. If you are red are break quarantine. The authorities track that person down

They did, in certain areas. It took that kind of extreme measures to prevent the outbreak growing.

I can't see it happening here, but at least they controlled the initial explosion.

They also caused the explosion by initially repressing news of it.

China's response to the pandemic will be the study of many future PhD students I'm sure.

That's good news, but unfortunately being where we are on the map, we may have to go through what China went through first to reach that stage. And as for Italy, flummoxed about how virulent the spread is there.

The HSE can only do so much, I agree.

It's time for individuals to focus on what the HSE and other leaders have been saying, and follow sensible advice.

We need a community spirit here, for many months, possibly into next year.

I agree 100% on the community spirit. It's likely going to test society in ways which are unfamiliar to us. I disagree with the HSE telling people masks don't help stopping the spread of infection to make people feel better about themselves. Whether they be surgical masks to keep badness in or respirator types to keep badness out. It's insulting in this day and age and easily verifiable.

Some leadership would be nice. We are not in the best of shape to face this down but we can face it together. Obviously by together I mean alone in our bedrooms for next 6 months :D

Anybody with an aul broadcast licence should set up a VirusFM, or WuFluTV for running updates.

Then there would be massive ad revenue (toilet roll sellers) and diy folk appearances showing how to make your own facemask or bunker.

    Laughed a lot at this!

We all know what is coming. I'd be seriously thinking about stocking up now. We'll be Italy in a few more days.

There are 3089 cases in Italy today. 13 days ago there were 3 cases.

Hopefully that will help us know the true nature of this. The metrics are still concerning me though.

I hope the ratio of severe cases globally not around 16pc go down. Same with the closed case cfr of around 7pc.

    Both overestimates surely.

As bad as Italy - what makes you say that? Why would we be worse than say Portugal, which has I believe 5 cases. Or will everyone be terrible? I'm not still quite sure why Ireland's going to be so much worse than these other countries because none are equipped for a huge level of isolation.

Doubt it would be worse but the trend is clear - we are behind a a week or two. The figures bump along for a couple of weeks before a sudden surge.

All countries have that in common so far just some are more progressed than others.

They have an exceptionally elderly population so the mortality rate might be higher than other countries. Or ours hopefully.
