Lanzarote for 5 nights from next Tuesday. Opinions?

    Have it booked since Christmas.

Go for it, I am away to Montreal and Las Vegas in a few weeks only thing that will stop me is if flights are cancelled by the air lines

Anybody with an aul broadcast licence should set up a VirusFM, or WuFluTV for running updates.

Then there would be massive ad revenue (toilet roll sellers) and diy folk appearances showing how to make your own facemask or bunker.

You think the HSE hasn't been monitoring the situation in other countries? You might be on to something. You should contact them immediately.

Love a bit of sarcasm. Highest form of wit I believe. :D

I don't really understand what people suggest they do. There's somebody from the HSE talking about the virus anytime I turn on the news.

We've 6 cases in the country at the moment. Six. The subject is all over the media 24/7. Should we just get on with it and declare martial law and call in the army. People need to get a grip.

The HSE can only do so much, I agree.

It's time for individuals to focus on what the HSE and other leaders have been saying, and follow sensible advice.

We need a community spirit here, for many months, possibly into next year.

So far I’ve heard glenamddy, Enniscrone and Gortnor Abbey Crossmolina. The last one I’d say is rubbish as the trip spoken about came back three weeks ago not ‘just back’ and all were fine

People claiming that this thread is a great resource and informative - two different Western locations have been claimed here by different posters as being where the latest cases have occurred. Both instances providing no evidence, but being read and thanked by many. Totally unsubstantiated.

I think that might be more of a reason for the HSE to provide a little more info on their whereabouts. Maybe even just county level.

I think keeping it vague produces a sort of "could it be here?" angst in people, and they go to twitter or facebook for answers.

I'm not giving medical advice to randomers on teh interweb, other than passing on official HSE information with links each time.

So I'll try again, what are your qualifications?

    Not that childish!

I (personally) think the level of testing in this country is at 'head in the sand' levels.

UK/NHS seem to have their act together better (in my opinion).

Maybe my opinion is wrong/misplaced and possibly due to what I consider condescending sounding talk from the HSE....the likes of 'we don't expect anymore cases'!

Nobody ever said they don't expect more cases. Of course they do. Complete and utter nonsense.

I know several nurses in a general hospital and non have had any additional information, training or equipment issued to them in the last few weeks. policy obviously is containment followed by mitigation. Treat whoever we can. No mention of emergency budget to free up funds to buy more hospital equipment.

Wrong. Prime time, HSE said no more than one or two cases.

Agree, and I'm not one to panic either. A bit of clear communication would be helpful for those who may be very anxious about it, and as you say resort to other (maybe dubious or rumour based) sources. That's what causes panic and anxiety.

But if somebody has asthma and coronavirus attacks the lungs or windpipe, it could potentially be serious.

    It's too late for them.
We need to focus on the ones that can be saved.

    RugbyLad11 wrote: »
As I said earlier, the Chinese numbers decreased because of their drastic action.

    1) Quarantined 70+ million people
    2) Shut the entire country down for over a month
    3) Everyone wear face masks so the virus can't be spread while they are pre symptomatic
    4) Temperature checks everywhere in china (yes I know not everyone infected will have a high temperature but it can catch some)
    5) China built a bloody fully functional hospital in a couple of days

...I could go on all night

Yes, even though it is been mentioned a few times on the thread, a number of posters seem to keep assuming the Chinese trend will be repeated in Europe by magic, without recognising what drastic measures have been in place to reduce the numbers in China.

For exemple Northernern Italy is now at a stage whereby Chinese authorities would have closed all large businesses, stopped outbound traffic from all airports, stopped all intercity buses and trains, restricted people’s right to leave their home to just once every couple of days to do grocery shopping, strictly locked down the road network to make sure no one can leave the metropolitan area, and made it mandatory to wear masks outside of home.

And after the two to three weeks self-isolation period and the risk is higher, what should s/he do then? More self-isolation? Pack in the job?

You have no basis for giving such faulty "advice", unless you are actually qualified. Are you?
