I've thrown a spanner in the works by mentioning 9 across the island

Just wondering how the IOM is doing. May make a trip there - they may insulate me or I might kill them....

I'll put it to you this way.

NAS upper management have somebody specifically employed in tallaght to trawl social media, facebook, whatsapp and twitter etc to look for staff who say things they shouldn't be saying.

I think its fair if it's confidential info but for the most part they spend their time looking for staff who whistle blow or complain about the frustrations of their job. HSE management are bullies of the highest order.

With the current pandemic they must be working in overdrive.

That's a bit mad. Don't think there is one of those in the hospital I work in. Just a social media policy.

In all seriousness, important to review inhaler technique with a chronic asthmatic. If you pop into your local pharmacy, they should be able to make sure he's getting the best use out of it.

    Thanks
I'm a nurse. We have a good technique nailed with the inhalors. Nebulisers etc. Have my suspicions on how effective they'd be though if he got the virus.

Situation is evolving rapidly and you should be thinking 2 steps ahead. I find myself in similar situation.

You should have a plan and update regularly.
    • Has the situation changed?

If yes you should adopt a stance that is proportional to the risk. We have a cognitive bias when it comes to low probability high impact events. Chances of your kids contracting is still low. However the 6 cases only is bollox Given the incubation period and bias towards people only seeking treatment if and when it gets bad like the last 4 people then that 6 is 6 last week.
Exponential growth has been observed in every other major national outbreak We would be naive to think that it won't occur here by which time we'll have to adopt drastic measures.

All official information refers to six confirmed cases. Nobody could possibly expect them to report on what they don't know about yet. There's nobody going around saying there's definitely only six cases in this jurisdiction.

Why do people believe it is important to know exactly where a particular case is. How exactly would that alter your behavior in any way.
Just because a case is in Dublin that doesn't mean everywhere is all clear. People travel all over the country quite regularly. An affected family in Donegal might have been visiting relatives in Dublin last week.
I'm not taking this situation lightly and it will get worse. We're still in fairly early stages.

well all. I'm off to Basque region in the morning for a few days. Have been following all the news lately. Numbers going through the roof everywhere. My honest opinion. It's such a globalized world. It's impossible to hold back epidemics (unless you are China)

Will try be as cautious as possible with hygiene. I'm not hiding in the house. Have been in work all week in a office with everyone coughing and sniffing. No natural air and air con re circulation all the germs.

The public have a right to know to accurate and up to date advice. They have no right to know the detailed travel history of medical patients.

The advice is here btw: https://www2.hse.ie/conditions/coronavirus/advice-for-people-returning-from-affected-areas.html

No need to know names addresses etc agreed. Epidemiology of patients yes. When were they tested. Health status. We're they in selfisolation? If not then add surely others with similar travel history should be advised to do so?

I don't really understand what people suggest they do. There's somebody from the HSE talking about the virus anytime I turn on the news.

We've 6 cases in the country at the moment. Six. The subject is all over the media 24/7. Should we just get on with it and declare martial law and call in the army. People need to get a grip.

St.Blaise, Patron saint of wool combers and throat disease - close enough.

Worth putting his picture on the weekend shopping list along with the VitC/D, Zinc, Garlic, Sage, Rosemary, Tumeric, Ginger, 2 gallons of vodka & AloeVera, Liquorice, Honey etc etc and about x512 toilet rolls and 10litre water jugs etc

If you’re lucky you would have the St. Blas ribbon already protecting you:cool:

Interesting, are you considering stopping going to work (if an inpatient nurse) s risk of obtaining the virus would be greater from that than through school.

If the case was in castlebar for example and the patients in that hospital then I'd avoid visiting anyone there if possible.

The farthest I went on a school trip was to Dublin Zoo. Half the secondary school population in the country were in Italy in the last few weeks by the sound of things!!

Where is all this panic people keep harping on about? I haven't seen any of it on here apart from 1 or 2 posts.

You too can become free of hysteria by agreeing with our assessment of the situation while lowering your voice half an octave.

Probably because if they have symptoms and live in that area they're less likely to ignore it

I've not seen anything confirming this is a single family. Possibly 2 couples which could make tracing contacts even more of a nightmare. If they were sat together on a plane those around them must have increased exposure with 4 of them potentially contagious (still better than 2 pairs on different parts of the plane I guess)

If you think the virus will be gone in two weeks then you haven't a clue.

If you think the HSE is not capable of whitewashing you are even more clueless.

Juat curious. What strategy do you prefer while trying to contain this?
Contolled information while going about a complex task or confused and blind panic? I dont see anything to be gained by critising or slaghinf off the people you want to save you from this terrible impending doom. We may differ, but thats ok, i am not going to panic.

Where is the best site to view graphs and from each individual country that has cases?

I'm specifically looking for line graphs.

    Thanks

People claiming that this thread is a great resource and informative - two different Western locations have been claimed here by different posters as being where the latest cases have occurred. Both instances providing no evidence, but being read and thanked by many. Totally unsubstantiated.

As I said earlier, the Chinese numbers decreased because of their drastic action.

    1) Quarantined 70+ million people
    2) Shut the entire country down for over a month
    3) Everyone wear face masks so the virus can't be spread while they are pre symptomatic
    4) Temperature checks everywhere in china (yes I know not everyone infected will have a high temperature but it can catch some)
    5) China built a bloody fully functional hospital in a couple of days

...I could go on all night
