Wish there was a journalist who would push for answers/reasons.

It's going to get a lot worse.

The only people without perspective are those who don't understand the full gravity of the problem.

It goes why beyond direct health effects. We have an outbreak like in Italy here and we will be in the worst crisis in the history of the state.

We are not prepared for this as a country.

As for FlyBe - the Directors are relieved to have the excuse i'd say. It was going bust anyway.

Yeah we don’t have an outbreak like Italy.

The 4 new cases come from Gortnor Abbey secondary school near Crossmolina, Mayo. The students returned from Italy 2 weeks ago

If that's the case that's a long time.e home... expect more

If it's in the west I wonder where will Teresa Mannion report from?

    Salthill?

I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out that most or all of the returning school groups from Italy had at least one carrier.
    Probably Ryanair;):pac:

If you think the virus will be gone in two weeks then you haven't a clue.

If you think the HSE is not capable of whitewashing you are even more clueless.

If you could interpret a simple post, you would understand that I believe neither of those things.

Vincent Browne would be great...but I think he wouldn't fancy a battle with the corona

    First post...
Now that the Covid has been confirmed in the west of Ireland I'm considering taking my kids out of school. When it was confirmed in the Republic I said I would take them out if it came west.. Now it is I'm hesitant and confused.
    Would love opinions though.
Would it be hasty? Or an absolute smart move. I don't trust the government to have my family's protection at the forefront of their governing, I'm certain they dont!
So too early to' go into hiding'?

It is beyond bizarre and incredibly worrying that the HSE are raising questions about this thread.

I am finding that there is some very good analysis here. I'm also have noticed a rise in doubters the past few days. That makes me wonder is there a correlation with the HSE questioning.

Hopefully the thread lasts because it is probably the most informative and realistic resource in the country right now.

Unless you are a doctor or work in risk management or have some other interest I am finding people outside the thread worryingly uninformed.

****e. You figured out that we spend 1 hour every day discussing how to undermine the pinnacle of truth that this thread is.
    Just today I read:
The virus was in Italy since October.
Anybody flying from Italy would need to go into 14 day isolation
Somebody linking the homeless crisis to COVID 19
    And on and on.

Informed discussion is the best kind. The information is out there on the inter web. I find reputable people on twitter with expertise in the area the best sources. They vet information and post only if it's credible. They've been sounding alarm for ages. Unfortunately nobody gives a **** about some far flung city in china under quarantine. Mention a school trip that could have been cancelled though "and now it's serious".

Fact is it is serious and we are underprepared. There is no point panicking but equally there is no point being delusional.

We don't have a great Chinese Firewall. We do however have a very effective it'll be grand brigade though.

That part of Italy has been in lockdown for 2 weeks. These people have only just returned if they have been confirmed today. Why did they not do the decent thing and get tested in Italy before hopping on the plane ?

The test is pointless unless you are symptomatic, ie until you feel sick. Which can be 14 days after exposure.

Yes it would be hasty.... this thing will be going on for months how long do you plan on taking them out for? Kids seem to be pretty much fine even if they catch it so I would chill out tbh

Unless you’ve been to north Italy with the family lately yes it’s very hasty to be taking anyone out of school until directed to by the government.

Take them out of school? This is going to be here for the foreseeable future so be prepared to keep them out indefinitely if that's your decision.

I would think it's hasty unless you or close relatives (the kids are in contact with) have underlying health issues/are elderly (over 80).

I would not be overly worried about kids/teenagers getting the virus. It's who they can potentially pass it on to that I worry about.

Just heard a barman in Italy got charged for serving coffee at the bar. Faces up to 3 months in prison for violating social distancing measures.

I heard he made the coffee with Maxwell House,

The risk of transmission at the parade would still be tiny given the extremely low number of cases in the Republic.

I can't see the case for the cancellation of the parade with such a low risk. And why target the parade only and no other gathering of any description in the country? It seems hugely inconsistent.

Because in parades people tend to be squashed up against each other.
You don’t cancel parades because the number of cases are low. You cancel them to keep them that low and prevent further occurrences.
Also with the pack mentality some moron will be coughing or go coronvirus and then it will start spreading through the crowd. People are stupid so will panic and people will then get hurt.

I think people outside the thread are still living in the real world. It's getting properly hysterical in here now.

Most informative resource? Hmmm, I don't know. I saw a randomer posting the name of a school, with zero evidence, and a big pile of thanks after it. Is that being informed or just believing everything you read on an anonymous alarmist message board?
