re the paddy's day parades...people could just like you know...not go!
True but the people who fly in to take part and watch the parade might have Covid 19.

They're not saying that at all, are you listening to what they're advising? Those 4 are in a hospital too, what more do you want them to do with them?

The ward and the bed numbers so we can bring them up grapes.:D

How do you know that the people who need to know this information haven't asked them?

Whether the general public knows this or not is not in the least bit critical.

The public have a right to know. There are lots of other people who have returned from Italy, their families and neighbors who are wondering about the incubation period. They need to self-isolate

How many Italians go to a GAA match. Not many is my guess. How many go to paddy's day. A **** load. Makes sense to cancel one. Especially now given 100% of our cases were imported from Italy.

The risk of transmission at the parade would still be tiny given the extremely low number of cases in the Republic.

I can't see the case for the cancellation of the parade with such a low risk. And why target the parade only and no other gathering of any description in the country? It seems hugely inconsistent.

I don't think they can stop flights, but if they said ALL passengers from Milan and Bergamo will be placed into 14 day mandatory quarantine (where I don't know maybe comandeer the show centre in Cloghran and throw a few camp beds in lol), that might make people think.

The Italian connection is quite concerning.

Give a form to everyone going through border check whereby they need to disclose whether they have been to any of the know clusters in the past 14 days, and inform they they will be prosecuted if they are found to provide incorrect information (and if someone is found to have lied, hammer them hard).

Then for non-nationals don’t let them enter te country if they have been there, and for residents and nationals screen them and put them in quarantine.

Once people know this is the deal when coming back from those areas, we would very quickly have a very limited and manageable inflow from there.

Wondering the same as a previous poster, how bad do cases get ie can the majority stay at home and not be treated in hospital. I wonder what happens when it becomes widespread I’ve two kids with colds, in two weeks will people with colds be making me wonder is it corona virus

The 4 new cases come from Gortnor Abbey secondary school near Crossmolina, Mayo. The students returned from Italy 2 weeks ago

So it’s not a family? Or parents attended the ski trip? Or the kids caught it and passed it to their parents which would mean then it’s not imported and the parents version is community cases!!!

"Nothing to see here folks, look at the shiney shiney".

Yet there's whingers all week complaining that the government and media are fear mongering when they report on it.

No wonder nobody is rushing in to form a government, they don't want to put up with this ****.

Why put back James Bond release? are all films scheduled to be released soon being pushed back 7 months ??
    Box office simple.
I think Italy box office down 75 percent last week from this time last year.

Too late to do anything. The genie is unbottled. There will now be a huge cluster in Limerick/ Clare. Most likely some of those 4 people knew they had it in Italy. But still travelled. Cretinous if that's the case.

and this is why we can't have info on them

When Holywood makes those flu movies, usually their fictional map of (early wave1) look a bit like this (non-fictional) one:

Anybody know if there is a patron saint of the flu (avoidance of),
there's one for lost property, when you loose the iphone etc.

    st jude for lost causes?

You have zero evidence for any of this. Pure idle and unhelpful speculation
That part of Italy has been in lockdown for 2 weeks. These people have only just returned if they have been confirmed today. Why did they not do the decent thing and get tested in Italy before hopping on the plane ?

I am going to ask one of the most bloody obvious questions in the world. Why is Leo's committee meeting on Monday and not tomorrow? We might not be in the containment phase for long.

The farthest I went on a school trip was to Dublin Zoo. Half the secondary school population in the country were in Italy in the last few weeks by the sound of things!!

Just heard a barman in Italy got charged for serving coffee at the bar. Faces up to 3 months in prison for violating social distancing measures.

Bugger, unless they were in isolation plenty of time to be spreading it far and wide. Not panic time but hopefully HSE change their spiel about them being confident of no community spread

It is beyond bizarre and incredibly worrying that the HSE are raising questions about this thread.

I am finding that there is some very good analysis here. I'm also have noticed a rise in doubters the past few days. That makes me wonder is there a correlation with the HSE questioning.

Hopefully the thread lasts because it is probably the most informative and realistic resource in the country right now.

Unless you are a doctor or work in risk management or have some other interest I am finding people outside the thread worryingly uninformed.
