Could be that version of the flu that was doing the rounds mutated or cross mutated with one in China and that's what's coming back around

I was thinking the same Wings had the same dose, mad sweats while feeling cold, mental cough that lasted an age, wrecked tired though blamed a very heavy workload for that, headache but no sinussy shots like it usually get with the cold I normally come down with.

It lingered a couple of weeks

Also had the same thing about 3/4 weeks ago now.

How did Covid-19 start in Italy? Did someone in Italy travel to Wuhan/China and brought it back with them or was it someone from China visiting Italy?
After hearing new info on victim in Valencia on 13 February.

3 more cases in Iceland, 11 there now. Quite a lot for a tiny country with a population the size of Cork city

Big tourist industry though wouldn’t it?

I had that phucker at Christmas. Dry cough for a good 3-4 days with temperature and not much nasal action. Was done for a good week from Christmas Eve until New years eve.

It is worth adding that I take the flu jab every year. So whatever I had I categorised it as a bad cold.

Authorities in Lichtenstein were apparently very worried by this development and asked the afflicted to please take 6 steps to the right. Austria now has one new case

I wonder will some good come of this, better hygiene (hopefully it’ll stop the manky coughers) and more might get the flu jab. I get it yearly.

If the virus was here that early could that "bug" that was doing the rounds in Christmas/New Year have been it, at least in some people? Put it another way I caught it, along with a few friends and family and the symptom list was very similar to what is being advised for Covid 19. IE fever, headache, fatigue, cough - about the biggest symptom I noticed among people with it(and two people I know still have the hint of a cough a month on) - and no upper respiratory involvement, no runny nose, stuffed up sinuses etc. Also, the severity of symptoms varied. In one household I know out of five people, three got it, one quite badly, two didn't(the youngest kids). Even at the time it felt like a different dose to the usual snots and blocked nose "common cold" and nothing like a flu. I know that if I came down with it today I'd be onto the GP and concern would be high enough.

I had the same onslaught. Can tell for a fact it started 9th dec, beforenit completely floored me the following day. Recovered literally christmas eve thank jaysis and enjoyed my holiday

It was responsible for 18 deaths by 27th December and possibly more after that date.

It would be some major negligence even by the HSE's standard to not identify what it was. At the time they said it was influenza and I believe them.
If it was, it was the oddest flu I've ever seen. At the time I recall reading, and before this Chinese coronavirus that it was another coronovirus, a "common cold". I even recall reading somewhere that Europe got a slightly different strain than was found in the US. Though trying to search for coronavirus online now for info on the Xmas one....:)

Interesting how the same symptoms only a month ago would have us sh1tting ourselves if we came down with the exact same bug today. Though my breathing still isn't back to 100% since that Christmas dose. I know two others similar. If we caught the new Made In China dose we'd be in trouble I reckon.

They’ve only learnt of the 13th of feb case because of the post-mortem. Up until then they thought the first case was that of the german tourist in La Gomera.
I don’t get why you’d think cover up.

Yes, whatever unusual dose was circulating Christmas time here - it wasn't a strain of flu that was in the flu jab... seemed to hit people the same regardless of whether they had the flu vaccine or not.

Yeah to be honest I'd be the same myself. Middle of Jan to early feb, the whole office seemed to have some sort of dose.

Myself it was a few days feeling like a head cold and just tired but the cough lasted about 3 weeks. Just couldn't get rid of it.

Put it down to a normal cold but like yourself if it happened now I'd probably be onto the GP.

But all highly likely to be a cold given our weird weather at the time

I had this too in January. Was off work for a week, in rotten form. Doc said it was a viral chest infection, chest was sore with a dry cough but no runny nose. It took me three full weeks to fully get over it, I was fatigued and tired all the time for weeks after.

Both my daughters got it too, the eldest particularly bad and was off school for 8 days with a constant high temperature that didn't respond to meds, the lowest it went for a week was 37.5 and spiked to 40 several times over a 48hr period at the beginning. The youngest was off for 4 days with high temperature but not as bad as her sister. They go to a small rural school with 115 students, on one day alone there was 49 students off sick with the same thing which is over 40%!

    Hmmmm......

I had the flu jab end of last year and still got that horrible dose over Christmas. Two weeks (edit: actually three now that I think) I was out with it and I remember thinking it was worse than any dose I'd had in years. But I was in contact with my grandparents over that period (and they're in their 80s and were fine, so doubtful it was COVID-19). But, yucky nonetheless.

Ok, which one of you visited a wet market in Wuhan late last year, while still coughing?

How frequently have you had a dose of a strong strain of influenza?
Most people have never experienced it only colds.
I once got bad influenza over 15 years ago, it was the only time. It still terrifies me how bad I felt. I frequently get colds though.

Not impossible but not likely either

Just feel like terrifying some people so I thought I’d post this link to a study showing that millions of viruses fall from the sky every day in every part of the surface of the earth and they can be carried thousands of miles in the earths atmosphere attached to dust and water droplets
    https://www.nature.com/articles/s41396-017-0042-4
Here, we demonstrate that even in pristine environments, above the atmospheric boundary layer, the downward flux of viruses ranged from 0.26 × 109 to >7 × 109 m−2 per day. These deposition rates were 9–461 times greater than the rates for bacteria, which ranged from 0.3 × 107 to >8 × 107 m−2 per day.

Only today or sometime between the 13 Feb and today ?

^^ I doubt it was Covid-19 you all had.

I get the flu jab every year. I escaped all colds this year. Everybody around me got colds except for me. I was sick a few years ago with hayfever and asthma and I was on a lot of steroids. I'm ok now but I do feel colds move into my chest easily. If it was Covid-19 doing the rounds it would have set up camp in my lungs?
