I'll try find it, but I'm sure one of the reports I've read (perhaps WHO report), said CT was a tool being used in China very effectively.

Mount Sinai Health System physicians—the first experts in the country to analyze chest computed tomography (CT) scans of patients from China with coronavirus disease (COVID-19)—have identified specific patterns in the lungs as markers of the disease as it develops over the course of a week and a half:

Ryanair are charging extra if you bring the virus onboard.

You can pay more if you want to open a window mid flight.

Yes, it counts as the one personal item. I'll have to leave the man bag at home the next time I'm flying.

Absolutely insane. The same people will drink in pubs and buy fresh uncovered food.

Yup, not to mention wearing masks that have been proven to do very little except limit the spread if you yourself have been infected.

And has been since the dawn of time!! Nothing new here
Just follow the WHO guidelines. It's not the virus we are up against but other peoples poor hygiene and stupidity :(

Yes but if the Dept of Health are correct and we need only be worried over close contact which they define as 15 minutes and more, then that's very helpful and will alleviate much concern.

On the other hand, if they've picked this 15 min figure out of their heads as a means to put some necessary limit on their 'contact investigations', then that's a very different matter. It'd be misleading.

Does anyone remember those Twitter videos from the first thread where people with Coronavirus in China apparently just collapsed in the streets, literally face-planting, and posters here were saying the videos were real? Has this happened anywhere else now that it's spread to Europe?

    Any virus cases in Israel?
    Nope.
That might change if they decide to annex some more land.

Watching Claire Byrne last night and some industries like tourism almost asking for government handouts/ compensation already due to loss of earnings.I mean what the hell, govs. and health authorities around the world are trying to control the spread of a new virus and some people bleating on about their profit margins.Yes of course it’s dreadful for business but seriously it’s about stopping the spread now.

    I didn't see them.
But do you say they had Coronavirus unknowingly. They thought it was normal flu and tried to get on with their own day. Work etc.
    But they couldn't.
    And just collapsed

I mean, not really. Anyone who uses public transport is going to be sitting very close to other people for over 15 minutes. They say you need to be 6 feet away from an infected person to be safe. There must have been at least 12 other people within 6 feet of me on the bus this morning. Also had a medical appointment, stuck in a crowded waiting room with people coughing and spluttering, well within 6 feet of me.

I heard it and think it’s irresponsible of media to portray this as similar to a cold or flu as this will surely downplay how important it is to contain it if it starts spreading here. It is comparable but spreads much faster and we simply don’t have the health resources to manage a big outbreaks

There is no vaccine for this so vulnerable people can’t protect themselves as easy. Personally I am not worried about catching the virus myself . My concern is for the massive amount of people that are vulnerable to catching it with compromised health. It must be very scary having a parent , child when things like this happen. There is no need for people to over react of course but people should listen to guidelines and not be complacent

See that bold part there, that's called "THE FLU" not you average cold that irish people get and BELIEVE they have the flu, but the actual flu.

You mention children in your above post and forget to mention there is not a SINGLE death worldwide recorded of a person under the age of 19.

Stop listening to sky news and do some research.

I was planning to go to Thailand next week, haven’t booked yet. The CDC isn’t advising people not to travel there and the price of flights is very good right now.

Could be a time for some great travel bargains.

From what I've read tourism is down by a couple of million over there from the same period last year

    .

Until airports are closed this is a Mickey mouse ineffective effort.
    Close the airports
Those with symptoms self isolate and everyone else take the HSE suggested hygiene steps.

Leaving the airports open mean you can never get a handle on new infections and spread.
Governments are more worried about creating mass panic than controling the spread of infection. Since the virus isn't that lethal it's understandable

There is a growing argument about how the virus is surviving at temperatures above 26 degrees. There have been only 40 odd cases in Thailand, none in Laos and Cambodia stats are difficult to obtain. The temperature theory is also explaining why it is not surviving on the equator.

The virus will survive in these countries when carried by a human, but there is a growing argument that it is not surviving on surfaces in areas of raised temperatures.

What an idiotic suggestion, which airports do you close? Do you think this would stop people entering the country?

Unsurprising. Already said here that I was on the tube in London with people coughing all over the place without even covering their mouths. The Brits have to be the most selfish breed of people I've ever encountered. There's a certain arrogance to them as well, thinking they know better than trained professionals and advisors.

Ah here, lainey. You were on that tube train and you’re not a Brit, are you? Who’s to say that everyone apart from you was a “Brit”?

Can you make a point without generalising?

Been following this guy for a few days. Grim stuff. Lots of those people collapsing in the street videos too, similar to what was coming out of Wuhan in the early days.

Fair enough, i misread, but the 0-9 range still has zero fatalities.
Also 10-19 0.2% thats 99.8% chance you'll recover.....and yet we are discussing the apocalypse here.

I wish people gave this much credence to world hunger, clean water and war stricken countries where the death rates in children are infinitely higher.
