Just wanted to add as well that I think vvd was visibly shook after deolefeu went off injured. I think it affected the rest of his game

that's just the class act that he is.

Thought the same. He held back on a tackle about 10 minutes into the second half, one which he would have never have before. He didnt seem his usual self at all, simple passes were misdirected too. Most unlike him.
There are days when they all click and we are unstoppable. Unfortunately there are days when everyone appears 'dull' - sometimes we still get over the line anyway but Watford were well and truly up for it and were totally deserving of the points.

I reckon we will see a very strong side tomorrow night. A win will be a big boost to the confidence, back to back losses puts even more pressure on the second leg I think. Staying in the FA cup might become more important after the loss.

Lovren was probably the best defender on the pitch for Liverpool on Saturday but that just doesn't fit with the narrative for most.

Lovren isn’t even good enough to the fourth choice. He needs a run of games to be in any way decent. He’s headless and reckless. His decision making is woeful. He jumps in constantly. He’s begging to give away a penalty.

It’s the type of row utd fans have had about their defenders for years. At a certain stage you have to stand back and say a guy is not good enough and stop over analysing it. Sometimes the mob is right.

If we went through the league and picked each sides 4th choice centre half I imagine Lovren would be one of the better ones.

that's all well & good if he's strictly 4th choice & picked for games we ain't putting our strongest XI out for, he was picked ahead of Matip on Saturday & that I can't agree with.

I know Matip ain't long back but a Matip fit enough to make the bench is a better option than Lovren imo every day of the week imo.

The bigger question is why was our fourth choice playing when by all accounts our third choice was fit? Kind of have to look at Klopp for this one. He obviously saw Deeney as a danger, and thought Lovren's physicality was the best option to deal with him. Hindsight has shown that to be wrong.

Elsewhere, I see a lot of downplaying of Arsenal's invincible season... I don't really understand that. Their 12 draws are kind of irrelevant to the point - they went a full 38 league game season without having an off-day bad enough to lose. That's genuinely incredible, and deserves the reverence it's held in. I mean, we know how good this current Liverpool team is and how consistent they've been, just getting the job done week-in week-out, and even they couldn't do that. It just takes one bad day for that challenge to fail - we couldn't do it, Arsenal could. Fair play to them I say. Ultimately, it's a side achievement, you don't get any extra points for it, and it doesn't mean you're a better team - but it does mean you've managed a level of continuous performance that is to be admired.

    After some seriously dodgy ads with a CGI Bob Paisley, Standard Chartered have really upped their game with a great one;

It’s important to note we are an amazing construct d team for relatively cheap but every player relies heavily on other player to improve their game

TAA without hendo drops a level
Robertson without mane drops a level
Mane without Salah drops a level
Vvd without Gomez drops a level
All other cvs with out VVD drop several level
Lovren when he plays drops everyone’s level
Firming doesn’t play Mo and mane drops a level
When we have our best 11 on the bitch we are the best team in the world

Sancho and Werner are must haves . We have to get both

In 1978/79 Perugia went through the season unbeatan in Serie A. They won 11 and drew 19 finishing second to AC Milan who lost 3 games.

    Putting undefeated in perspective.

Thankfully not a deceased player or manager in sight in this one! It's genuinely really good.

This sort of sums it up really - it doesn't mean you're the best team, but it is an incredible thing to do, and is the sole reason why you know who finished second in Serie A in 1978/1979.

Based on that article the last day on the Athletic, Buendia from Norwich would appear to be a good option.

Yes, but that's the point. It stands out. It's instantly searchable. It's a thing that makes it different from any other team coming second, or in Arsenal's case, someone winning. It's literally extra-ordinary.

I guess what's irritating is that people are now saying this team is not as good as the Arsenal Invincibles.

We could win every game for the rest of the season, finish on 109 points and the one loss will be seen as a blemish in some quarters.

The Invincibles managed 9 wins in a row. We doubled that.

Add in Elliot from Fulham who looks like he'll be a proper baller given time but plenty of lads before him have flopped in the senior game so the jury is still out. He's still got 2 years before he'll probably be an expected regular for us.

Also, Shaqiri has hardly set the world alight, he's had 4/5 great games and countless disappearing acts for us. He'll surely be moved on in the summer. Big wages for very little return.

Gini was a very unexpected big game player for us, I wasn't too excited by his signing but he's got a great mix of skill and workmanship and is usually sorely missed when he doesn't start.

I wouldn't be surprised to see John McGinn's name linked with a few top half teams. The pair of Norwich full backs could get moves too.

The more points you win the better if you ask me. The whole point of a league is to accumulate points. City's 100 point season a couple years ago was much more impressive than the "Invincibles" even though they actually lost twice.

I think a side went unbeaten in Serie A in the late 70's and actually finished 2nd.

Norwich and Cantwell is the answer to this, I think. I don't know who else we're in the market for but the Cantwell rumour is strong.

If the current bottom 3 go, there's a heap of talent there that could be picked up by top half sides. Definitely not all for us, but a lot of these would be decent in the PL next time around

Norwich - Aarons, Cantwell, Buendia, Pukki
Villa - Heaton, Mings, McGinn, Grealish
Bournemouth - Ake, Brooks, Wilson, King

If one of the sides above the drop gets pulled back in, there'd be plenty of interest to PL sides too.

    Watford - Doucoure, Sarr
West Ham - Fabianski, Diop, Rice, Anderson, Lanzini, Antonio, Haller
    Brighton - Dunk

I think Cantwell is a very likely target. Beyond that, I've given up trying to predict our transfer business but the names above would do a decent job for quite a few PL sides. There's probably more in there I've not considered too.

Yeah, I'd agree the 100 point season is more impressive. But that doesn't mean the Invincibles season wasn't also impressive.

I just don't see the point in trying to put down a thing that was impressive, and it only makes us look more petty as fans, totally playing into peoples 'bantz'. Arsenal did a thing that was kinda cool, we couldn't do it, but thankfully it's not a big deal. But fair play to them for doing it, it's a hard thing to do.

I really dont understand why people are getting in any way upset by stats, records, what people say. I will be as happy as Larry when we win the league. I dont care when or how. I just want to win it. I've waited all of my adult life, and then some. I will take it whatever way it comes and it will be sweet as.

Yes, but numbers aside... that Arsenal might be in fact a better team.

The quality they had was something out of this world.

And particularly the grit. Probably not a better team than either this Liverpool team, or quite a few others, like Utd in 2008, or 99, or City 2 years ago, or Chelsea around 05, 06. But the grit and determination that Arsenal team had to get something out of every single game is impressive.

Tthe invincible season is a measure of what you can do on your worst day, rather than what you can do on your best. Even on their absolute worst day, when things just weren't gelling, and the play was messy and uncoordinated, they still managed to always rescue something.

    Neither do I.
