Troy Deeney as back up?! ****ing hell. We need vastly superior players than him. I don’t care if he “tells it like it is”

Proper man & bloke. Says it how it is,been in prison & turned his life around.

    .

I'd rather Werner. We're top of the league and your advocating signing a hugely limited player in Deeney? And then you think Salah should be sold. Come on.

Sign Deeney ah lads that's the biggest meltdown Monday this thread has ever seen.

Proper Man??? What relevance does that have when we're trying to launch a quick counter attack and he's stuck on the half way line incapable of moving.

    We aren't Burnley

Milner & Gomez back for Chelsea Keita misses out again

If we are musing about yet more strikers - I'd be very naughty and get one from Wolves. It's always a good idea to weaken the competition!

    Jimenez looks a class act.

Get Jimenez. Then we don't need to make a new song!!

Edit: if we were after anyone from Wolves though I'd love Never.

Good news regards Milner and Gomez, Keita doesn't even factor into the thinking these days, hasn't contributed enough to warrant being missed tbh.

I think some just skim this thread.

Deeney signing was a joke of course. He is a million miles off our squad. Thought that it would be obvious it was a joke.
Im not in favour of buying an out & out striker. Prefer get a versatile forward.

Im was going on about Traore at Wolves. But Jota would be a super signing for a top 4 club. Jimenez too, Neves & Vinagre as well 2 good players too.

Thing is, the kid could walk out with Virgil at Anfield for nothing......

    Coady for Lovren

    Neves for Lallana

    Traore for Shaq

Jimenez for Origi and he already has a song the fans can sing off for him and Bobby.

Doherty as right back cover then.

Add Werner and a left back and there is a squad to win everything.

I think,a record points total in the league is a far greater barometer of how great this team is rather than a season unbeaten with 12 draws.. nobody thought city's record would be beaten by anybody other than city..to do it so soon would be quite the statement.

100+ points has to be the aim at this stage alright, it would be the icing on the cake after winning the league to have the record points haul to go with it.

Given the aim of the game is to get as many points as possible, I agree and rate City's centurions a higher achievement than the invincibles.

Whatever achievement is greater is a matter of personal opinion. If we won the league with 80+ points, personally I think it beats everything that's gone before. Leciester, Arsenal and even City. That's because we took on the greatest premier side. Assembled illegally but assembled nonetheless. You can only beat what's in front of you and we're beating the greatest of all time, or at least that was the general consensus until Liverpool stepped up.
Again however it's just a personal opinion.

It would be a nice bonus. Would love a good run in the CL even if it means losing a handful of games in the league. If we get past Athletico, a big if mind you, I'd happily rest players. Providing we aren't collapsing in the league of course!

    Its not a narrative.

Deeney matched up with him and basically bullied him. Lovren got drawn in with him too tight all game and started holding him instead of stepping off him. Look at the second goal. Ball bounced over his head. Third goal he jumps up and misses the ball, minimal contact from Deeney. Trent pass is then intercepted and they score. Just go up and head that ball away and there's no issue.

I feel you're one of these that because you see him do things you think he had a good game. I believe he won 6 aerial duels to Van Dijks 4. The reason for this is he was targeted. Van Dijk won 4 of 4. Lovren won 6 of 13. Its similar to when teams allow a center back carry a ball out of defence. Some people interpret this as this guy is a ball playing center back when its actually a tactic by other teams, "he cant hurt us, let him carry it". Van Gaal did this to Sakho a few years back. Damien Delaney spoke about this on Off The Ball recently.

You can probably go back and look at the second goal also. Just before that ball is kicked Van Dijk drops off giving himself a yard. Lovren doesnt. He just stands there and then cant get there. Would he have?? I don't know. Would Gomez have? I believe so.

I think the issue with Lovren is similar to the Mignolet issue for years. He unsettles everyone around him. His mere presence causes hassle. More than once Saturday I saw him fly into a challenge by the touchline and not win it. Imagine now you're playing left and right of him. He is at least 20 yards out of position and on his hole so what do you do.

I don't think he's good enough to play for the club in any capacity. My reasons are he unsettles the team and his ability is far more limited than his belief in his own ability.

VVD made a load of mistakes on Saturday, TAA had a terribly ineffective game - worst I've seem him play in months, but sure it must have been Lovren's fault - he made them **** apparently by his mere presence.

Lot of confirmation bias on display and a handy scapegoat to pin the blame on.

I think a lot of vvd was worrying about what lovren was going to do and trying to cover that....and ultimately not covering anything. Trent must have Corona virus....no other explanation for him 😆

4 of VVD's 5 league losses have come next to Lovren, that's not scapegoating.

it goes back to the point too that you can be 'invincible'/unbetean & finish on 38 points.

one more win & we overtake as many wins as Arsenal had in their 'invincible' season.

each to their own of course, but a league is won on as many points won & I'd rather smash a points record than being unbeaten tbh.

that's not taking away from Arsenal's achievement btw because it was incredible, but what we're doing is incredible also.

    44 matches unbeaten.
    422 days without a defeat.
2nd longest run in English history.
    106 from 111 points.

Dunphy on Jamie Carrgaher/Djimi Traore centre defence partnership; "Carragher would be better tying a wheelie bin to a bit of rope and trailing it around behind him"

The same applies for the Van Dijk/Lovren partnership.

Which we’ve already done v 17 of the other teams by end of February. Nearly 18.

Win by any means, with any number of points, is all that matters.

I'd take 90+ points to be honest

Just wanted to add as well that I think vvd was visibly shook after deolefeu went off injured. I think it affected the rest of his game
