Is there 2 cases now in Tipperary or is it just the one that the poster mentioned earlier and now has limited it to Clonmel? Bit confusing

I reckon someone dropped a box of beer or something and chinese whispers ensued

Just a quick update folks, We have been called to a meeting tonight at half 7 in Croke Park.

Was there a meeting at the school earlier today or was the hearsay? If so, are you in a position to share what was discussed or what the purpose/outcome of that meeting was and why the need for a second meeting?

So infection rates are growing exponentially in Italy?

Yes it is. A lot of that has to do with Italian culture like kissing greetings.

The R0 is probably way higher in Italy than most of the rest of the world.

Thsi thread is going around in circles. Again, these are not mortality rates. They are percentages of fatalities with the relevant underlying conditions. There's a world of difference.

I did not say 'mortality rates' I said figures, and they are listed as percentages for those infected with covid 19 who have other conditions…

Just like the Chinese cases there was a lag on data initially until wider spread testing was done which artificially inflates the numbers early on.

So week 2 cases was 4 times higher than week 1. Then it doubled per week for several weeks before plummeting down to 10%.

This guys calculations were going up by a factor of 8. Obvious overblown hogwash

A simple “yes, it did spread rapidly in Italy” would have done.

Italy reported a 40% jump in infection last yesterday

Why? They’re not sick, and not likely to get sick.

Maybe or maybe not, there is a case for staying one step ahead. Of being proactive, rather than waiting several days for a few new cases among that cohort and only then reacting.

Right. Great reply. 2+2=5. Don't get mad that it's bull****. It's only math bro!

    I'm not mad, buddy.

Look, Italy release their updates every evening at 5pm.
My graph suggests the number should be approx 2400 cases by then. And increase of about 700.

So log back in at 5pm and you can type out more censored swear words at me, bro

Just as an aside, why are they gathering everyone in one place?

That makes no sense if they don't want to spread it?

Do you remember that ship? They'll probably lock the doors once they have them all corralled.

With China recovering and USA just starting it's epidemic, I wonder if the present world order of no. 1 and 2 GDPs will be reversed sooner than predicted.

If the virus is still extant in China then once workers return to work the virus will start spreading again. Listened to an interview with Marc Lipsitch, director of infectious disease research at Harvard. He predicts global infection rates among adults of between 40% to 70%.

But cameramonkey why would they stop everything? It remains to be seen if it's even much of a serious problem. Very rash if you ask me :pac:

I understand that it seems rash and heavy handed but I am only reporting what people tell me. I think the problem for the Chinese initially was the unknown nature of what they were dealing with. That is a problem , you don't know how virulent it is or the death rate or the best response so you are in a very difficult situation. They then saw the Wuhan explosion of cases with the hospitals being overloaded and I presume not enough beds, equipment, staff, respirators or oxygen . These factor especially not knowing what you are dealing with and an overloading of the health system leading to chaos and panic meant they had to respond quickly and decisively. Now they seem to have it under control if we can believe their numbers.

My fear for Europe is that with maybe 10 % of those infected needing acute treatment or oxygen/ respirators we will see our systems being overloaded like Wuhan. The death rate for this in Singapore is 0% so far in Italy it is 2%. If Chinese rates are replicated in terms of those needing acute care Italy will need to provide at least 160 ICU or respiratory interventions even if infections stop now. That is a very big work load. We need to watch Italy.

Must add 80% of those will have mild symptoms

    What the hell??

Why have we not been told about this. If they're bringing people to this location then everyone should know there will be potentially be a hoard of Covid-19 zombies congregating in Dublin 1. The whole post code needs to be evacuated. This is crazy.

I'll call it for what it is. Total bull****e with no basis in reality.

We haven't seen anywhere near that level of growth anywhere including China where it ran rampant for weeks before being discovered.

Oh no thanks for the info!

I was being sarcastic it's my own defense against the ridiculous denial going on. It'll be a few days (weeks for some) before they get there.

Temperature again. It is not surviving above 27 degrees. Outside of the human body that is. Average temperature in Singapore is over 24 in March.

I don’t know where they get their data from, but it doesn’t seem right.
There are many more new cases, just a policeman’s family tested positive in Roma, a case in Toscana, another in Sardini....
I can’t post links, but you can read it in il corrriere della sera.

What are peoples long term view on this.

I can get a pallet (minimum) of n95 masks for June. Will everyone be dead by then? Or will it be over and ill be left with a pallet of sanitary towels?
