Some metrics are uncertain, but we can be certain now about the possibility of spread without containment measures.

Well yes, the containment measures are absolutely essential and that goes for the public too - people should be extra vigilant and washing their hands throughout the day, just to be on the safe side.

They've been saying for the last week or two that they fully expected low numbers of Irish cases to emerge.

It's not low numbers that are a problem.....it would only be if it suddenly started moving into double figures and beyond that they would become very concerned.

    Yes, when it's too late.
I should be following my own advice; yet I met two friends today for an extended period.

Typical in Ireland the drinks lobby has full say on a public health issue, seeing as they are the biggest threat to public health.

The DART servers all the posh areas with people back from their skiing trips so I would say you are better taken your chances on the bus.;)

Or Cycle... Breathing in mostly fresh air and no worries about droplets and touch surfaces.

What's with all the ski trip bashing. Not posh at all these days, even for school trips.

Like it's done in Italy, France, Germany...No reason to think that would happen in Ireland...

Off to leaba, great thread, not too much messing and goodnight.

Work for me starts at midday. I'd be too embarrassed to wear a mask but thankfully have my jalopy, you know the item that is most hated in Dublin now for clogging up the streets. I usually take the bus, but feck that, I'm going all insular now and that's that.

Interesting stat that even today, 90% of corona cases are in China.

Interesting stat - S Korea had 70% more cases yesterday than the whole of China

The whole containment phase is a sham. I know a lad who flew back from Asia last week. Went through three airports, not a mention of where he was or even checking a temperature. There are people with symptoms knowingly boarding planes just so they get home and screw everyone else on board. They're like giant incubators for a virus like this.

Then we have fancy schools who won't even cancel skiing trips to Italy lest they ruffle some feathers in South Dublin. Containment my arse.

As long as the numbers stay in the low single figures, Ireland will remain in 'containment' phase.

The authorities would only start to become very concerned if the numbers moved into double figures or dozens.

That boy god love him from Dublin who has the virus, could have passed it on to numerous people in the last week, school, out socializing, etc.

Then they may only start to show signs in the coming days.

Who knows who they have being in contact.

That's because China have massively underreported the true numbers I would assume.

Agreed, but it is time now to limit social interaction on a personal level, and I have spent time with people today.

Vintners federation... Lol. The Govt must be some shower of weaklings getting ordered around by industry groups.

Thats not the way it is supposed to be.

Do you mean 'by' the government? I think the only way the festival would be at major risk if Ireland had moved out of the containment phase (but in that case, all sorts of restrictions would be coming in anyway).

I would but that would take a hour each way.

Cycling 2 hours every day on Dublin roads is probably more lethal then any virus. A taxi would have me dead by Thursday

Lads , genuine concern here. I feel like complete ****e bas showing symptoms that could be coronavirus. But I was also drinking heavily last night so the symptoms are quite close to a bad hangover. Should I be self isolating? I wasn't near any high risks that I know of

Believe it if you will - 196 cases and all deaths in Hubei

It probably already has because we did not do enough testing.

Self loathing perhaps :D seriously you'll be grand unless you were in North Italy or have a direct link to lad in school.

I gotta give you that one. If the containment of the virus is comparable to a daily cycle in Dublin we are in for a horrible ride

I mean, he is and he isn't. The reason they won't call it off now even though it really aught to be in order to contain the spread is that the tourism sector will lose €2bn.

This post here displays a real lack of understanding around the context of a possible infection or the multiple ways an infection can happen.

I think this is how the general public are mainly perceiving the threat.
