Without the school being named, (responsible) parents who haven't been contacted will monitor and assess their kids conditions and escalate if any are showing illness without being panicked by location.

With the school named, anyone who's been near the school will be turning up at hospital as any single sneeze or cough will be assumed to be the virus.

Its not rocket science why they don't want to release the name.

They know perfectly well they can’t control release of the name. All they’re doing is avoiding the responsibility and any possible/imaginary legal consequences.

Is there a self isolation pack any of the shops or chippers are doing to get you over the 2 weeks?

    It’s in Glasnevin I believe.

That’s worse than posting the actual name of the school, which has been posted many times in this thread anyway- there’s likely a number of schools in that area- cue panic
This has taught me HSE much better off naming schools large companies etc- it just means people have the facts- otherwise it will lead to scaremongering and rumours which are far more dangerous

Purportedly the letter, from an Examiner journalist.

Any of the staff members that take a holiday during this period should get a hefty fine.

    School tours have evolved.

Ski trips for all now. We were lucky to get to the west of the country and that was not that long a go!

They are simply trying to avoid a panic. If they can contain the outbreak to one school it is a massive result.

Avoid a panic by not giving out transparent information? That only leads to distrust and rumours spreading and all sorts of speculation.

Take the Singapore example, you can get an app which details case X was at location Y and Z on dates 1/2/3. Honest and clear and so far...they are able to keep a lid on it, a place with very high density.

It is BEYOND a farce to not expect letters sent to parents regards a school closure not to get out.

I don't want to know about the person or anything like that and I hope they get the best treatment available and that others effected get back negative results and we slow the spread of this to give our health system a fighting chance.

I'm beginning a 12 day straight run in a large public hospital tomorrow. I wonder when I'll get my briefing to take peoples phones and lock them in a secret ward (with a smoking porch). Jesus wept.

Number of hospital admissions with viral pneumonia in Thailand has doubled in a week and almost no increase in confirmed number of COVID patients over the last few weeks in the country.

Was there not a post about 10 pages back, mines is 40 posts a page but someone mentioned Thailand's cases going up to 42. Plus Thailand had their first death from it too. https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/general/1869104/thailand-records-first-coronavirus-death

If you want to get into it, you got to get out of it. (Hawkwind 1982)

I agree. Although, strangely, it might be cheaper to go skiing than to the west now :P

I wonder what people here think about a trip to berlin in a few days? Might cancel it tbh.

Its not rocket science why they don't want to release the name.

…..and its not rocket science for anyone that lives in the present to know that when you inform 500 odd families of the situation that it will be absolutely impossible to keep it under wraps.

At a conservative estimate you've just given a piece of info to 3000 people who own smartphones and told them to say nothing!!!!

It's bizarre in the extreme that the HSE would actually follow this policy.

I'd like Runaways re instated. I think he is genuine. And if not, what's the problem, the man is in hospital probably with suspected sepsis from the wound he sustained whilst abroad, and is according to him showing symptoms of C19.

Whether he went out for a smoke or not is irrelevant.

We are such sceptics in this country, no wonder the HSE won't tell us anything because we won't believe it.
