If an airline stock was to drop 14% everyday (not just like yesterday), then very quickly there is no airline, then there is no facemasks (or anything really, that can't be manufactured and sourced locally).

On the upside investors are piling into Pharma instead, one of the biggest climbers this week 30%+, was the company (one of many) that makes the (3hr) COVID19 test kit, that means they can now with confidence and (real money) finance available, mass produce these, to reduce the virus spreading, and killing people. It'll just cost a bit more to ship them out.

In Italy they are banning all meetings both public and private in affected areas. Will that apply here? Dail, council meetings Gov Departments too?

What is the worst case scenario? How ugly can this get? Containment is already a lost cause. If the WHO upgrades it to a pandemic there will panic. First world countries will probably be alright and will be able to ride both the sickness and the hits on their economies. But third world countries, the elderly and sick would be in dire straits. And what will happen to nation’s economies, particularly for those who depend on trade with China for goods and component parts, if it causes cuts to the tune of about $1 Trillion in 2020 from the global economy?

Those 10 deaths are all in high risk groups

We're ****ed anyway the HSE has no means to handle it there already running close to capacity. We don't have the beds, medical staff or equipment and it's too late to do anything.

The parades didn't happen the year of foot and mouth disease and life carried on. That was over cattle, not humans.

I stand by what I said weeks ago now, this will collapse the world economy and kill countless numbers of people even if every country on the planet took the measures China have which have been draconian and wide spread. If those measures won't be taken it doesn't warrant even thinking about.

Nobody can answer this. Spanish Flu didn't kill in one go. It mutated, took a year to play out, came in waves travelling around the world. Its a novel virus.

With complex, JIT supply chains that mean three days food supply in most shops? With limited Hospital beds and the inability, like the Chinese, to build hospitals in days? Without large militaries to enforce quarantine zones?

We won't be hit as bad as African countries or India, but it we will be far from alright.

I agree, it's sooo surreal and an unfortunate irony too. If we come out the other end of this that footage will go down in history as part of this outbreak.

He must have been feeling so awful to not be able to even hide it. Apparently him and two others were told not to attend due to temp checks but they went ahead anyway!

There is no doubt this is a pandemic of major concern, but just look at context.

So far, 100,000 cases (and we have many experts saying that's probably 10 times or more in reality). So say a million.
2634 deaths which is probably a reasonably close to accurate number as they are much more likely to be accurately reported.

So far this year in two months, assuming average incidence each month:
up to 150 million people have had the flu
up to 415,000 have been hospitalised from the flu
54,000 people have died from the flu.
