Those are the kinda reasoning / stats that old skool investors like Warren Buffet use. Made him very rich very slowly over 60-70 years investing in Coca-Cola etc.

He missed out on all of the likes of Apple, Microsoft, Google, Amazon and now Tesla though...

Are you joking? AAPL is perhaps Buffet’s all time best investment in terms of profit. The reason he invested in AAPL is the same reason he always invests in proper, dividend paying value, the numbers work.

Anyone who believes buying or short selling TSLA at this point is “investing” is deluded. It’s gambling in a casino and trust an actual pro here, the house always wins in the end ;)https://www.google.ie/amp/s/www.fool.com/amp/investing/2019/11/17/heres-how-much-warren-buffett-has-made-on-apple.aspx

Given the fact that 52,000 call options went yesterday at a 1000 USD strike expiring Fri I’d say a good few people are learning a very, very harsh lesson about the markets today
    Trade Carefully

Apologies, didn't mean to mention Apple. I was kinda talking about actual innovative companies that mostly didn't make any profit and didn't look like they were going to make any profit for quite some time :p

The same kind of people who bought BTC at USD19k.

Thankfully for those people Tesla is unlikely to lose 85% of its ATH any time soon...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,464 ✭✭✭sk8board

dropped roughly $150 versus yesterday’s close and down 17% on the day at $734.
After hours is holding firm at that level.

Those bitcoins are now paying interest. When do you reckon Tesla will start paying 5% dividends monthly?
19k is going to look cheap in the future, it's like land there not making any more of it. :)

if you timed it right you could have bought at 900 and sold at 960.
It's not about price it's about timing

When you hear them talking on newstalk about tesla stocks, it's too late. Get out.

lol nobody can “time the market” thinking you can is irrational and really just gambling. In the end all that really matter are fundamentals. If you stick to a numerically based valuation metric/ thesis and invest in strong, dividend paying companies, you’ll most likely make good money in the long run.

Agree with your second point about newstalk though.

Not investment advice btw, do your own research

You absolutely can time the market.
Whether it's chance or methodology (it's generally both) depends on the individual!

Chance I get. I would however be interested in what methodology you use to time the market. How long have you used it? Would you consider yourself a very experienced investor or a trader? Would your methodology work across different sectors and asset classes or is it specifically tailored to something more specific? Genuinely curious here.

Whats wrong with investing Coca Cola anyway? I bought lots of Coca Colas at the start of January and its up by 10% since. Pretty much a risk free investment with good dividends. An excellent return for someone who doesn't know what they are doing, like myself.

A stock with such a low float is easy to manipulate. I believe when this all shakes out, people will be going to jail. My money is on Johnny Depp to play Elon in the film.

In fairness, back up to 730$ now. I was expecting it to drop down the likes of 500 with this whole crash. Where does everyone else see the share price heading?

I still think it goes lower, especially if the stock market also drops

Still selling going on, 5% down on a green day even after the recent hammering. Those 2 lads on Askaboutmoney who got burned and closed their shorts in the 900s must be raging.

It's crazy that he's keeping the fremont factory open when the local area is in lockdown. Building cars right now is essential?

The man is a nut case.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,999 ✭✭✭✭Thargor

Why? Its not total economic shutdown, are there any other factories still open in the US? Are all their owners nutcases aswell?

Six counties in the Bay Area have issued a “shelter in place” order with the hope to reduce the transmission of COVID-19 and flatten the growth of the virus.

    They stated:

Everyone is to work from home, or stop working, unless they provide an essential service: healthcare workers; police, fire and other emergency responders.

It’s unclear how they plan to enforce the measure, but they have made the sheriffs and police chiefs responsible for compliance.

Tesla’s Fremont factory, where it produces most of its electric vehicles, is located in one of those six counties and has been suspected to shut down when the order goes into effect at midnight tonight.

However, we have received several reports from Tesla employees stating that they were told by the company that they plan to be in operation tomorrow.

Tesla back to 360$ now, interesting that it was much slower to drop back in comparison to many other share prices, were all the buyers who got in at the likes of 700+ in Jan still holding on in disbelief or something ha?

  • Registered Users Posts: 215 ✭✭Coil Kilcrea

Sadly, the shorts will now try to kill him.:(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,999 ✭✭✭✭Thargor

NIO could be another way to double your money when things settle, electric cars are going nowhere.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,454 ✭✭✭garrettod

Sadly, the shorts will now try to kill him.:(

If that's wrong, and you believe in Tesla, why not buy in to try and counteract those shorting the share?

I think its a case of buying into the vision, that Tesla may become a masive worldwide producer of great electric cars. If it succeeds, then your investment becomes very valuable.

Obviously not one for widows and orphans, but I like the concept and think demand for electric cars will continue to increase, so am retaining my modest investment for the long term. Depending on how the price goes, I may even buy a little more of the stock.

    Thanks,

    G.

Tesla will most likely get absolutely hammered by the upcoming recession/depression. We can expect oil prices to stay below $30 for quite some time which will also be hugely detrimental to the electric car industry.

    We're all in this psy-op together.🤨

Bought in yesterday. Thought 11pc would be their low point yesterday. Wrong alas. 17pc down. Lost 6pc.

I'm a believer in their product, their vertical integration and the industry they have created.
I like their move into China and feel its supported by the government there.
Electrics are the future and Tesla is the alpha in quality in people's minds.

I think the people who buy them are less affected by this downturn as other Joe's like me.

It's both a luxury and a gas price saver. The rich tend to see things as investment focus.

The production plant shut down is bad news though..very bad.
2500 staff allowed work.. no manufacturing though.

I think the stock price removed the crazy peak that happened. Luckily they picked up 2 billion just before this....verrryyy lucky. 2 billion cash cushion and they can always get more investment if they come out the other side of this.

17pc down in a day though.. they get killed instead of hurt on bad days

Its same for all manufacturers. This isnt a Tesla or even an EV thing. Look at Ford, GM etc.

On the upside, that $2B raise was indeed fortuitous for Tesla and China seems to be getting over the virus ahead of the rest of us so the China factory will likely be at full strength sooner rather than later.

Musk is even fraudulant about ventalators.

I think Elon Musk promising ventilators and then delivering CPAP machines while continuing to call them "ventilators" is the most Elon Musk thing ever.
