Been outside for a wander between squalls and while the sun was out. Northwards the ocean was as ruffled ad white crested as have ever seen it. South/west, solid grey/ yellowish cloud hiding everything. I know what that colour cloud used to mean when we were kids. We shall see. wind loud now and darkening skies.. and a long loud squall shower breezes down,

Exactly we're still under an Estofex warning for convective action, current temperature is 12c and due to drop 8c in the next 12 hours, potential is there for some very severe gusts later today. Take a look at the current human modified fax chart 2 distinct boundary features out in the Atlantic, technically occluded fronts but they will come through with temperature drop and forcing

SHEESH! A sudden louder than loud deluge! A battering and more to the north than before. Is the wind changing? Definitely on the north facing gable end Strong wind too. On and on it goes.

Yes westerly now. Catches the dwelling sideways on.

So this is the Storm pattern now; calms then sudden vicious squalls. Dark here now,

Looking at the projected wind speeds for the rest of today on Met.ie, we should remain under the orange warning until early tonight.

Looking at the Met app, would I be right in saying the warnings are ending at midday?

One hour of an orange warning left, Carlow seemed to escape any kind of storm it's not a bad day at all, the sun is even coming out for lengthy periods.

2 flashes of lightning followed by decent cracks of thunder here in Murrisk (near Westport, Mayo). As to wind, i would say yellow conditions most of the morning so far.

Just north of the Comeraghs, windy but sun is trying - and occasionally succeeding - to get through.

    Malin had a gust of 113 km/h at 10am.

All other stations well below 100 km/h except Sherkin (107 km/h)

It looks like the worst of it was in the early morning.

Seeing some blue skies in Galway now.

Sun is out in force in Cork City. Still windy as feck but no rain.

save the trouble and jazz it up

Absolutely torrential in S. Dublin, hasn’t changed since last night and the wind woke me up twice. It’s crazy

Woke up to no electricity in Letterkenny, just back on half an hour ago. Don't know if there were any reports of lightning around here overnight as wind doesn't seem anything special?

Nice morning now with good sunny spells

Wind really starting to pick up now here in The Netherlands. First coastal stations reporting gusts over 100km/h. Ciara will peak here late afternoon early evening. Models showing a good bit of purple and tight gradients over the North sea. Wouldn't surprise me if somewhere in the NW a 150km/h gust will be reported later today. Will be out to the beach this afternoon. Might send some live storm update later.

Ciara been renamed Sabina here in Poland by German met office as it crosses North sea. We just got SMS warnings of potential 150km winds from later tonight and then blizzards from Monday night onwards.

We already have 50cm+ lying snow since last Tuesdays storms.

Casement Aerodrome gusting to 58kts (107km/h) at 11am.

  • Registered Users Posts: 15,855 ✭✭✭✭Discodog

Just back from walking the dog along the shore West of Galway. I hold up the handheld anemometer 10 kph, cloud appears & it jumps to 50kph with even stronger gusts. It's clear but even the slightest cloud causes it to get really squally.

    975 & slowly rising.

Blue skies now but bad hail and thunder & lightning about 30 mins ago in Westport. Looks like a summers day now.

Where were you in the early hours of the morning? :-P Because I can tell you there was certainly a storm in Carlow town and I'm on the top floor of an apartment complex. The rain around 5.30am was unreal as well as the wind and a bit of lightening thrown into the mix. Seems Carlow castle sustained some damage as a result...

Manchester airport reported a gust of 75kts in the shower that just passed over there. Quite a significant shower indeed looking at radar returns.

    Becoming electrified too.

Casement has the highest gust (58 kt) at 12Z.

Waiting out west is a large area of cold convective cloudtops (green) to arrive later. Should be interesting then.
